In this lesson, we are going to do a chemistry revision for the exam. So now, according to this question, we're saying what is the major characteristic or characteristic feature of an acid?
The major one, the biggie, main characteristic is what they were talking about here. So what we need to say is that you can say acids acids You can say dissociate.
Dissociate that means they when they dissolve in water dissociate in water to produce the hydrogen hydrogeny ions.
Ions it means you can put the H+ in the bracket. You say H+ if you want.
So that's the major characteristic of an acid. The moment they dissolve in water, they have to produce the an hydrogen ion.
So now, the other question was saying explain what is meant by each of the following terms.
Weak acid. So you can say a weak acid a weak acid uh is an acid that it only partially You You say partially ionizes in water.
Ionizes in in water.
So, when you're talking about the weak acid, you're talking about an acid which partially ionizes in water. It doesn't completely dissolve in water. So, it partially So, now the other one when you say strong acid is opposite. You just say I it is You can say a strong acid is an acid is an acid that fully ionizes in water.
So, that's the uh definition. So, for example The question is saying write equations to show the ionization of dilute sulfuric acid.

And this hydrogen is going to This hydrogen is going to be So, since it's the symbol of what uh sulfuric acid, this hydrogen will be alone. It will be It will be positive because we have said it you when you dissolve an acid, it's supposed to uh produce the hydrogen ion. Hydrogen ion which which is H+.
aqueous It will separate now hydrogen ion. Then this uh sulfate [snorts] is going to uh be alone again. It will be plus S sulfate which is a four here.
Then you Hydrogen, we know it has got the Yeah, the hydrogen is supposed to be positive. It has got positive one because it has got valence one. This one, it has got the valence two.
And the charge is supposed to be negative. So, while hydrogen is positive, the other one is supposed to be negative.
Then the other one was saying uh Write the equation to show the ionization of ethanoic acid. Ethanoic acid, it is a weak acid. This is the chemical formula for ethanoic acid, C You have to know the symbols of acids before you go to the exams.
Like hydrochloric acid, uh HCl You have to know it.
So now, this is a weak acid. You have to know strong acid, weak acid before you go in the exam.
So now, like this one. This uh How do you see Since it's a weak acid, that means the the the reaction is reversible. You see?
reversible because it doesn't does not completely ionize it in water.
So, no wonder you put this symbol.
Then this hydrogen is the one that is going to become positive, the last hydrogen. It will be >> is the one that is going to become positive. The last hydrogen, it will be plus C then you So now then you are going to say uh this is how we are going to write this C hydrogen.
Then this remaining which is here is the one which is going to become negative. You say plus C C H 3 C 0 0 it becomes negative. You write the aqueous like this.
