Political candidates strategically frame issues to appeal to voters, as demonstrated by Ashley Hinson's 2026 TV ad that emphasized healthcare company practices and congressional stock trading bans, which polls showed were highly popular issues, while avoiding direct engagement with her primary challenger.

Unpacking Ashley Hinson's first 2026 TV adAdded:
Henson's first TV ad of the of the year started running last week. She speaks to the camera in the ad, saying, quote, "Here's what I believe. Our veterans deserve a hell of a lot better.
Healthcare companies are ripping you off, and members of Congress should not trade stocks." End quote.
>> Oh, there's just so much to unpack with this ad. First of all, it's a definitely a general election message. She is not paying any attention really to her primary challenger, Jim Carlin. And she's t she's not speaking primarily to a GOP electorate. I mean, there is a nod to Trump that she says she's working with President Trump to take on insurance companies and fighting to ban stock trading in con in Congress. I do not remember Ashley Henson running on this issue. To my knowledge, she hasn't co-sponsored bills on banning stock trading really before this year, but this is an issue that uh some people see as as increasingly popular. I think the polls show it's sort of off the charts the number of people who think that members of Congress shouldn't be doing insider trading or using that inside information to make money. Um, I think that it's very it's also interesting to me that she's talking about the big corporations like the big health care companies ripping you off. I feel like that is attempt an attempt to insulate her from the attacks that are coming. We know they're coming against Republicans in Congress all over the country.
related to these healthc care cuts in that big budget reconciliation bill and the fact that the Republican Congress let those health insurance premium subsidies for the Affordable Care Act uh expire. So, I think that Ashley Henson's going to be trying to say that she was just not wanting to give more subsidies to big health insurance companies that are ripping people
