Wood’s account reveals that the "revolution" of the *Fountain* was less about the object itself and more about a calculated PR masterclass by an elite social circle. It proves that in the art world, a compelling narrative and the right allies are often more influential than the work.

Beatrice Wood on Marcel Duchamp's FountainAñadido:
Duchamp's Fountain was sent in by Arensberg. I knew immediately who Arensberg was to test the validity of bylaws which were free.
The purpose that anybody who chose could send in a painting. Kent and Arensberg had a tremendous fight about it the day before.
And I fled because they were at each other's throat. And it was they wouldn't allow it to be shown.
And so there was a quite to do. I went with Marcel Duchamp to Stieglitz.
And when he asked Stieglitz if he would photograph it. And I remember that Stieglitz took great pains in just getting the right light effect in taking it.
