How Is This Skyscraper Standing π±Added:
How is this massive Chicago skyscraper standing on such a narrow base? This is 150 North Riverside in Chicago. A 752 ft tall skyscraper that looks like it's balancing on one foot. And when you first see it, it almost feels like a strong wind could knock it over. But there's a reason it was built this way.
The tower sits on a tiny piece of land squeezed between the Chicago River and active railroad tracks, leaving engineers with almost no room for a normal foundation. So instead of making the building smaller, they designed a narrow Y-shaped base and supported the entire tower through a massive core buried deep into the ground. And somehow that's not even the craziest part. Near the top are huge water tanks that move against the wind, helping keep the tower stable during Chicago's powerful storms.
So what do you think? Genius engineering or one of the craziest skyscraper designs ever built?
