Finding the Locations of Weird Bootleg PlacesAdded:
Shrek's Pizza is a popular bootleg image that has gone around the internet quite a bit and has become kind of iconic.
Photos of this bizarre restaurant have become quite popular online. People have made their own memes, edits, stickers.
Some people have even built the store in Minecraft. However, where is this restaurant? Does it still exist today?
>> Shrek's Pizza was in fact a real restaurant that had once existed. The store was located in the United Kingdom in Wanshore, Manchester, specifically 109 Sell Road, Northern Moore, Withnore.
Unfortunately though, the restaurant has since shut down permanently through the see more dates feature on Google Street View. We can see a bit of the store's history. We can find that Shrek Pizza wasn't around in an April 2015 capture.
It was a custom cakes and cupcake store.
In the next June 2016 capture, the cupcake store was completely gone. And by the next June 2017 capture, Shrek's Pizza had arrived. Shrek's Pizza wasn't around for too long, sadly, as in a December 2020 capture, we can find Shrek's Pizza had been replaced by a Dixie Chicken. I guess sometime in 2020.
Unfortunately, only a few handful of photos of this restaurant had been taken over the years Shrek's Pizza had existed. There appear to be no videos of this restaurant. In a couple photos, we can kind of see what the restaurant looked like inside. Very green and has lots of different photos of Shrek. The restaurant's menu has also been archived, which has a very strong Shrek theme. Despite how popular of a meme this restaurant had become, there isn't too much information on Shrek's Pizza out there. But yeah, it's an incredibly obscure and hilarious place that is missed by many.
This is an image I remember seeing all the time online growing up. This strange looking bootleg McDonald's image. It's called OMC McD Noel's and the logo is duplicated it seems like. Where is this fake McDonald's located at? Before we answer that, we got to figure out, is this image even real?
In a Reddit post from 2024 on the mystery subreddit, someone had asked if this bootleg copy exists or if it's just edited. Most people in the comments agree this image was the result of AI.
It's probably AI. Yeah, it's just AI.
It's obviously AI. Y'all will believe anything around here.
I get where these users are coming from.
AI from 2024 was known to produce visual glitches like this. But I remember this image from when I was a kid, way before AI. And through a Google reverse image search, we can see and prove the image had been posted onto many websites lots of years before AI. So, if this place wasn't AI, is it real? Then, someone suggested it may be a street view image that was overlaid incorrectly, which is known to happen frequently. There's a chance this is possibly a photoshopped image. The sizes of the text and font seem to be aligned weirdly. My mission was to find out whether this popular bootleg image was real or not, and if it did turn out to be real, find out where it had existed.
In attempt to find this image's origin, I decided to go through all the visual matches when reverse image searching on Google and look for the oldest match I could find. There were lots of old reposts of this image dating back many years, some as early as 2009.
However, after scrolling and scrolling through many reposts, I found a match from November 2008. This match came from a Chinese website I believe is called Rakuten Blog. It was an article written by a user who came across funny bootleg images from another article. This page stated, "Also, while browsing Chinese websites as part of my daily routine, the following picture caught my eye.
It's immediately obvious that this is a fake version of a certain fast food restaurant. But that wasn't all. Take a look at this. There's a fake Starbucks and a fake Pizza Hut, too. According to the article, a series of fake shops suddenly appeared on a street in Njing.
The article also includes a picture that appears to be a fake 7-Eleven. It's all so confusing. I wonder if they'll even get any customers if they manage to open. They included a link to the article they found these images from.
Although you can't access it today, thankfully, it has been archived through the Wayback Machine. The article was to a website called news163.com and was an article that talked about these strange knockoff stores. The headline reading, "A street full of knockoffs has appeared in Nanjing, leaving nizens speechless with disbelief." This article has been run through Google Translate, so I don't know how right or wrong this text is, but the article states, "Recently, Netisens revealed on forums that a row of counterfeit brandame shops have appeared on Wan Street in Nanjing with many major brands being copied. On Wan Street in Nanjing, there is a group of counterfeit shops all displaying identical brand name items. Fake McDonald's and Watson stores, knockoff Starbucks, and Pizza Hut. This group of counterfeit shops is truly outrageous. I won't read the whole article. It pretty much just goes into how shocking and unbelievable these shops are. I do think it's actually pretty interesting for a whole street to be filled with these bootleg knockoff restaurants and stores.
But amazingly, this article does give us a location to where this famous obscure McDonald's ripoff comes from. And that location is Wen and Street Nanjing.
Since Google Street View doesn't exist in China, we aren't able to go through old Street View captures and see what this bootleg McDonald's as well as these other fake restaurants looked like.
However, we do have some photos from this article which show when Street and all the shops and restaurants.
It seems like no other photos of this bootleg have been taken. This one that has gone around like wildfire online appears to be the only photograph of it to exist. Now, knowing what street this bootleg had been on, if anyone watching is able to find any new photos of it, that would be a miracle and honestly amazing. But yeah, there you have it.
It's cool to finally know the backstory and origin to this famous funny bootleg image. It was in fact real.
In 2024, a post was made to the crappy off-brand subreddit by user Live Nothing 1706. This post was of this small looking store with one title right out the front, Mario. This was straight up the Mario logo and font taken from Nintendo. No other edits made to it. And finally, no other information added.
This store just had the Mario logo on it. It's a pretty funny bootleg image, and I grew pretty curious about its origins. What is this store? Is the place still called Mario Today?
What was interesting is that this doesn't seem to be a popular bootleg image online. Tina brings up Zero Matches and Google Lens only brings up this Reddit post. Where did OP acquire this image from? OP was talking about the store like they knew more about it.
In the post title, they stated it rebranded in 2020 and in the comments said that nowadays it's abandoned. I sent OP a quick message asking if they had any more information about the store and perhaps the location and they awesomely gave me all the details I needed. It was a restaurant of course simply titled Mario located in Sodahham, Sweden. The photo of this place that was in the Reddit post comes from a reviewer 7 years ago who posted a review and uploaded two photos. These photos being the outside and an inside shot. We can get a good look as to what was actually inside this Mario store. The outside photo is the only proof that at one point this store was called Mario. No other photos had been taken. I went to Google Street View to see if there were any captures available for when it was called Mario. And unfortunately, there wasn't. This is what it was in a September 2010 capture. It was a store called Mary's Mini Loves. In June 2019, it was a restaurant called Mr. Broadstead. And nowadays, from last year, August 2025, we can see this small little store has become very much abandoned. It wasn't around for very long at all. a very funny and obscure restaurant.
Many of you may have seen this image online over the years. This bootle KFC called OFC. And instead of Colonel Sanders as the logo, we have Obama. You can sort of guess by the logo that OFC stands for Obama Fried Chicken. This is probably one of the most absurd bootleg KFC knockoffs I have ever seen. So absurd to the point I always question to myself when I see this, is this even real? Is this just some crazy Photoshop?
But this is in fact a real restaurant.
What exactly was this? And what is the story behind it? This is a Boule restaurant, which isn't as obscure and unknown like the other ones I talk about in this video. This restaurant had actually received a lot of media coverage and controversy. This OFC restaurant originates from Beijing, China. It had been opened by three students. The restaurant quickly gained attraction and became viral. It got to the point KFC themselves found out about this restaurant and called it distasteful and offensive. Legal action was being considered by KFC. With all this attention on OFC, the three students who opened this restaurant decided to close it down. However, it wasn't closed down for long. It would come back shortly after with a couple new changes. The logo would later return with the OFC text cut out. The words public bathing house was shown through this cutout from the previous sign. And later after this, this was then changed and covered with UFO in the same KFC font. The students stated in an interview that the shop was an unidentified object to avoid talk of copyright infringement. The store after its reopening only lasted a couple of days before it was finally shut down for good. The students even burned and destroyed the Obama sign for the trouble it caused all of them. It was a very interesting restaurant. Why did these students actually revolve this restaurant around Obama? In an interview, one of these students explained this wasn't done out of hate.
They simply loved Obama, stating he looked friendly, nice, had a great smile, and admitted to worshiping Obama too much. And there you have it. That's the origin and whereabouts of OFC. It's fascinating to know this strange bootleg image I saw all the time as a kid actually has a bit of a history.
Here is once again another photo of some bootleg Mario Bros. related store or restaurant. This one is called Mario Bros with two S's and has a big picture of Mario next to the name. I found this restaurant while looking through potential entries for this video and wanted to know more about what this was.
What is this restaurant and where is this from?
When I started researching this bootleg restaurant and tried to see if I could find anything more on this image, I found something pretty unexpected. Not only was I able to find new separate images of this Mario Bros restaurant, I was able to discover that this Mario restaurant was in many different locations. This bootleg restaurant wasn't just in one place, it was all around.
So, to start, there's the first restaurant we looked at. This specific location has been posted all over the internet on many different platforms.
This restaurant is located in Medelene, Colombia on 642 Avenue 33. These here, I believe, are the coordinates. Putting these coordinates into Street View, we can find the infamous store. Through Google Street View, we can see the restaurant has been in this spot here for quite a long time. In every single capture available, the restaurant is seen with the latest July 2024 and the earliest July 2013. The sign outside the front has changed a couple times over the years. The December 2013 capture is the most interesting to me as outside of the restaurant, we can see a Mario Bros truck with all of Nintendo's assets all plastered over it. It's hilarious. Now, what about the other locations? Like I said, looking around, I was able to find a Trip Advisor page for Mario Bros., which funnily for some reason is listed as Mario Boss. It had six different photos available. A photo of a mask sticker, a photo of food, a photo of the menu, and a photo of a sign out front showing a combo deal. Then there were two photos of the restaurant in several locations. One of these photos being the restaurant in an outside building and one of them being the restaurant in what looks like a mall or shopping center of some kind. I got to just say I love the guy that's dressed up as Mario in this image. They're really going all the way.
There's only one address listed on the page. CL10 Medelin Colombia is the address listed, which on Google Maps takes me to the outside of a mall, which I'm assuming this image here is inside of the other image. I'm not entirely sure what the address is. On the website menu world, which is a website dedicated to different restaurants and what they have, they feature Mario Bros and explain what it has to offer. They also give an address, which is this, also located in Medelene. Looking on Google Street View with this address, we can see that this is an entirely different location compared to the other three photos collected so far. Then there was a Mario Bros located in Guadape, Colombia. On a website known as Happiness Plunge, a person named Adam had uploaded a photo of an inflatable Mario with the Mario Bros bootleg logo on his chest. This was posted in January 2012, and in the background, we can very faintly see a Mario Bros restaurant. A couple months later, another photo of this inflatable Mario outside the restaurant was uploaded online. Both these uploads state this restaurant was located in Guadape, Colombia, as opposed to the other restaurants that were located in Medilene. Medilene is around 2 hours away from Guadape. I had already found five separate locations of this Mario Bros restaurant. And while looking around on the internet some more, I came across other photos of this restaurant in new various different places. That's well more than five. So, they are truly everywhere. and it seems to be a popular franchise with the amount of restaurants they have, which to me is so surprising considering they are just blatantly stealing from Nintendo. And then somehow I managed to find something about this restaurant, which makes this franchise even stranger. While looking at a Reddit post that was talking about the restaurant, trying to see if I could find anything new, I spotted an interesting comment. The comment said, "The funny thing is is that this is actually a franchise-like restaurant, so you can find several of these across the country. Depending on the zone, the visual identity can be more sanitized.
Look up on Google Maps Mario Bros.
Barancia." I decided to look up on Google Maps Mario Bros. Baronia and two restaurants came up called MBS, which obviously stood for Mario Bros. There were sort of minimalistic versions of the other restaurants we had looked at before. Very clean and professional looking. The food looks great, too, and there are lots of reviews. Seems to be incredibly popular and filled with people in the photos we can see. Of course, there is a very subtle use of Mario characters, which is pretty funny.
These restaurants are located very far away from the Medeline and Guadape restaurants. During my research, I discovered that there's also a restaurant called Mr. Pros. Unsure if this is related or not to the other restaurants, but considering it has the two S's at the end, I honestly think it's safe to say that there's a chance it could be from the same people. But at the same time, this could definitely be a separate restaurant by different people. There are two separate Trip Advisor pages for both restaurants.
Knowing Mario Bros and all its different locations though, is there a chance this is a bootleg of a bootleg? If that's the case, that is absolutely hilarious.
Through reviews and photo uploads, as well as Google Street View, we can see this restaurant was around from at least 2013 and had disappeared around 2017, it seems like. I just think that this Mario Bros. franchise is so interesting. It's so random and strange. It's crazy how some of their restaurants are so obviously and clearly ripping off Mario and its characters, while some of the others are trying their best to hide it.
The food and overall aesthetic and style is also so different and mixed with these two restaurants as well. What I also find crazy is that they've been around for incredibly long, too, and have so many restaurants. How on earth have they managed to avoid Nintendo of all companies for this amount of time? I just find this case to be so fascinating for some reason.
Thank you all for watching. Hope you enjoyed this funny video. If this does well and you guys would like to see me do a part two for this topic, let me know in the comments. There are still so many more images of weird bootleg places that need to be tracked down. I would love to find the origins of more of these. If you have any other video suggestions and topics you would like to see me cover, also let me know down in the comment section or feel free to go over to my Instagram and send me a message. And yeah, once again, thanks for watching and I'll see you guys in the next one.
