Jones Fire: Victims comb through rubble of burned-out homes

[00:00:02]Yeah, Jorge, just really devastating. We can still smell the smoke in the air, by the way. It is incredibly smoky, incredibly ashy out here, and we are just getting our first-hand look this morning of all of the damage. And this mobile home park, there are neighbors here who lost absolutely everything. In fact, I just had the chance to speak with Saul here. He is a Spanish speaker, but this was his home, and he welcomed us to stand over here with him right now as he is just looking through uh really the remnants, trying to salvage anything he can. We're watching as other residents, some of them, you know, you see their cars are still standing, some homes are still standing, but then other cars like this one here is not. So, it was really a toss-up as to what exactly the flames would take.

[00:00:53]And you can also see um some of that pink fire retardant that is still just blanketing uh the property here. Right now, we're hearing maybe reports of about eight to 10 homes in total that were lost. This, by the way, is directly behind an elementary school where 250 students had to evacuate. You know, thankfully, that school went untouched, but sadly, all of these homes were were in that path of destruction, and and many of them uh were not able to withstand those flames. So, uh we do want to mention to any residents who are out here and had to evacuate that help is available with the Red Cross. Uh Wickenburg High School is also still uh being provided as an evacuation center this morning. So, uh Kaylee and Nick, we're going to stay out here. We're going to keep, you know, sharing with you the stories of of these residents and and the help that neighbors I've spoke with one woman, she said, "My couch is available, and I'm going to provide my couch and whatever I can to my neighbors. So, you know, we're seeing neighbors banding together during this time in order to help one another. I'll send things back to you. Yeah, and it's just beautiful to see that part of it, but you just can't ignore really the devastation that we saw right now, Jamie. And this fire at less than 24 hours that it sparked. So, in that short amount of time doing all this destruction.

[00:02:20]>> You see all that life, the memories are just they're just gone behind you. Just It breaks your heart, right? But we know that Arizona will step up. Jamie, thank you for that live report of the Jones fire. In the meantime, we are monitoring several other wildfires that have sparked in recent days across Arizona.

[00:02:37]Crews making some major progress on the Slide Canyon fire. That's burning in the Kaibab National Forest. We're also watching the latest on the Horseshoe fire. It's near Verde Lake as we show you this map here. It's about 230 acres in size. Then there's the Hazen fire.
