River Watch Update: Fast Ice Movement Near Nunam Iqua

[00:00:00]Hey everybody, Mike here once again with Riverwatch. We're a Tuesday afternoon, May 25th. We're out here in New Namqua and uh you can see this ice is moving very fast. Uh really ripping through here. This is going out to the south mouth. Uh we just flew this area. Looks good all the way out to the south mouth.

[00:00:18]Still some little places of intact ice, but this is all moving fast enough and has enough pressure it should be able to make it through all the way out. So we do not expect the south mouth to jam. We are seeing a little bit of back edetting on the north side here, but not too concerned about that from what we hear from the locals. And Casey Channel is also able to carry some of this ice out to the ocean. So, right now, the two places we're concerned about, we have a jam in the Lucknox Slooh and a jam in Quak Pass. And so, we'll keep an eye on both those places, but uh the power of the Yukon River and breakup is on full display here Namiqua. And, uh, we'll continue to keep you updated. This is Riverwatch.
