Busy Houston road floods in midst of stormsAdded:
JD, thank you. Our team coverage continues tonight with Fox 26's Randy Wallace, who is monitoring conditions out on the road for us. He's been out all day. Randy, where are you at this hour?
Yeah, Tom. Right now, we're at I-10 coming up to I-10 East coming up to 610.
Now, this area around 5:00, the freeway was closed. I mean, there was so much standing water that that both sides of I-10 in this area, this kind of wayside McCarty area, McCarty area was closed because there was so much rain. But, as you can see right now, it is smooth sailing. There's no rain at all. We probably haven't really seen any rain in the last, what would you say, 23 hours at least? At least 3 hours we've seen no rain. But, yeah, it was really pretty treacherous this afternoon because, again, you had the police closing down both sides of I-10, I-10 East and I-10 West because there was so much standing water on the freeway. I'm I'm not sure if you're showing video now, but I'm sure throughout the the newscast, viewers are going to see exactly what it was like. And the usual spots, of course, they they are flooded, which is uh not surprising. But, right now, it's it's much better and things are are really good out here now, Tom.
Randy, that is good to know and hopefully that that continues that way as well as we make our way into Sunday.
Safe driving out there to the two of you.
The heavy rain did come down so fast.
High water forced the closure of the I-10 East Freeway in both directions at McCarty.
Uh this is video from earlier recorded from Houston Transtar. Randy was just talking about this. Drivers having to turn around onto the entrance ramp to get off the highway to avoid the flooded roadways. Some 18-wheelers were able to make it through cuz they're higher vehicles. Other cars, other vehicles and drivers not so lucky.
Not far from that area, drivers were getting stuck in deep water in the Harrisburg area as the heavy rain fell.
This was the scene near Lockwood and Harrisburg, where we found several vehicles trapped and making their way through the high water as ponding did its thing in all the usual spots.
