Kickstarter Robot Lawnmowers: Which one do you like? TerraMow X, GOKO M6, or Rokibot G7

[00:00:00]Hey guys, crazy postman here. Well, I thought I would make a video today going over the current Kickstarter robot lawnmower projects because we got quite a few good projects going on like the Rockybot G7, the Gokho M6, and the Terramo X. Let's get into it.

[00:00:24]>> [music] >> So, this first project we're going to look at is the Terramo X. And now I'm going to be honest, this is near and dear to my heart. I have two other Terramo products and I think they are great. I think Terramo did an awesome job engineering them. So, how we're going to do this video? I'm just going to go over them quickly. I'm going to play the video that they produced to explain the robots and then we may go over a couple more details. I'll leave a timestamp at the bottom if you're only interested in one of them, you can skip around and just see what you want. So, this first one here is the Terramo X all-wheel drive and it just went on Kickstarter just a day or two ago and it's crazy because it passed $1 million in the first day. So, that is quite an accomplishment. You can see as of uh 12:36 p.m. on the 19th of June, we are at 380 backers and that's only after one or two days of being up. I can I don't know exactly when they posted this, but it hasn't been up more than a couple of days. So, let's go ahead and check out their video here together. I may pause it and add some input along the way.

So, the RTK is kind of running in the background to help it keep its visual visual Since it's vision-first, if the RTK cuts out, it's going to keep going unlike most robotic lawn mowers that depend on the RTK and then use the vision as a secondary and they can start getting very inaccurate the longer they go without the RTK. And quickly, while we have it paused here, you can see this number 11,000 square meters, 2.75 acres.

So, it has cameras in the front and the back and bumpers in the front and the back. So, it can go forwards and backwards. At the end of each row, it doesn't have to turn around like most robot lawn mowers. It just kind of goes over to the next row, and then continues on. That's much more efficient and much easier on the grass, especially with something that weighs as much as this one does. This thing is a beast. It's 20 in wide. I think it weighs more than 80 lb.

[00:06:44]Terra Mo X AWD mows beyond limits.

[00:06:48]>> So, the number one selling point here on the Terra Mo is its turn-free all-wheel drive ability. So, I think that is great. I can't wait to give it a try later on. The second thing about the Terra Mo that is going to be an awesome selling point is that you can have the razor blades for your maintenance, and you can also get the straight blades.

[00:07:13]Now, I don't see myself using the straight blades all the time because I really like the way the razor blades make it look. You know, if you mow every day every other day, your razor blade lawn is going to look great, but I understand there's different types of grass besides me that's used to Bermuda.

[00:07:30]So, that is a awesome feature, and especially in fall when you get the leaves falling, you can use the straight blades to chop everything up. That's probably the main time I will be using the straight blades is during fall to chop up all the leaves, but otherwise I think I'm going to be using the razor blades.

[00:07:51]Let's just quickly go through here and see if there's anything I missed. Has a eight tops AI processor. Oh, they're going to have a expanded ecosystem. So, at launch, the only thing that's going to be available on Kickstarter is the extra batteries. If the Kickstarter goes well, which it appears it is, they've made over a million dollars in one day, they're going to continue development on extra accessories like a trimmer accessory.

[00:08:22]They've shown a sprayer accessory that can go on the top. And they've even talked about allowing this to be open-sourced, so people can design their own accessories and incorporate it into Terra Mo here. There are some beta YouTube videos out, so you can go find these on YouTube and watch them if you want to see the Terra in action.

[00:08:48]Oh, they got the Lawn Ninja. I like watching his videos. So, I haven't actually seen this one yet. It wasn't out yesterday when I was looking, so be sure to go watch these videos. Here is the other two robotic lawn mowers they came out with, the S and the V.

[00:09:06]I have both of these and they are wonderful for small lawns.

[00:09:12]These are very small robots made for small lawns. So, don't get a Terra Mo V thinking you're going to put it on three acres. It's just not going to happen.

[00:09:23]But, if you just have a regular-size city lot with a nice lawn, the Terra Mo V is going to be perfect for you. And here we got Harry from Terra Mo explaining how the Terra Mo X is going to be somewhat modular and more easily maintenanced. I don't know if that's the proper way to say that in English, but uh it seems like it has like six major pieces that um can come apart and be easierly easierly? And be more easily maintained.

[00:09:54]So, here's the Terramo set up against two other models. I'm assuming this one's going to be the Luba, and this one's going to be the Limo. They've crowned theirself the winner. Their Terramo AI vision is really the main crowning achievement of Terramo. It is really good. Like say the Terramo smaller ones, S and V, don't use RTK at all. It's not necessary. You actually don't even need to use the RTK for the Terramo X if you're below a certain size. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head. I think 2,000 square meters.

[00:10:33]So, if you're below a certain point, you don't even need to set up the RTK. It can work off the vision alone. When you get into the bigger spaces, 5,000 10,000 square meters, it needs that RTK as a base layer just to help it stay precise on point. Here's showing the cutting system using the razor blades.

[00:10:58]And here is showing them changing to the straight blades.

[00:11:03]Both of these blade sets are going to be adjustable. Right now, the adjustability, the razor blades will go a little bit lower. I think they go all the way down to 20 mm, and the straight blades will go down to 35 mm, I think it is. Both of them go all the way up to 4 in. So, here is their accessory ideas. So, you got the edge cutting module. You got the sprayer module and the extended battery packs.

[00:11:32]Now, the extended battery packs come in two. You have to put one on both sides.

[00:11:37]You can't just buy one, as far as I know. You have to install both of them to get the extended battery. Right now, I think their extended batteries are like six or $700 extra. So, if you're going to want to mow the full 10,000 11,000 square meters that this can do, you have to spend that extra to be able to do that.

[00:12:02]Uh if you just get the regular one, thinking you don't care if it takes a day or two longer with the regular battery, it's not going to work. It will cut you off somewhere around 1.5 acres.

[00:12:17]That's just one of those things that these robot lawn mower companies do these days. They don't give you unlimited space because they need to protect their revenue to sell a larger size unit or to try to reduce warranty claims due to overuse. That's just part of it. Uh they software lock it. So, whatever the sizes this says is the sizes that it's going to be.

[00:12:44]Okay, don't think you can buy the Terra Mo and then mow 10 acres with it because that's not going to work. The only way to get extra space out of the Terra Mo is to use spot mode. And that's a one-time use you can send it out on spot mode, but you have to build the map every time. It won't save it. So, that's not something you would want to do to mow on a daily basis. That's like a one-time thing, like you're mowing a friend's yard for them. You can control the Terra Mo X remotely.

[00:13:20]That is very handy. I don't foresee this one getting stuck very often, but But a situation arises and you need to control it remotely for some reason, you can do that over Wi-Fi. Has anti-theft protection. This was a crazy thing they did. I I probably instigated this because the last time they did a robot, they threw the thing in a pond. And they're like, "Look how good this thing is." And I was like, "There ain't no way you're going to do that with the X." And then they said, "Bet." A few days later this video comes out. So, they are testing these things to the fullest, just so you know. Now, you wouldn't want to do this with your $3,000 machine, but just know if an accident happens, it's not an instant death. It might not be damaged if something crazy happens. I want to show y'all that video real quick.

[00:14:18]This is from a few years ago and they just take their Terra Moto here and throw it into a pond just to show you how resilient it is.

[00:14:31]And they throw it in there. Bloop.

[00:14:35]>> [laughter] >> So, this is the Terra Moto S and this is them just testing how waterproof it actually is. So, now you know they do test these things pretty thoroughly.

[00:14:45]There was another good one here.

[00:14:48]Someone was goofing around and said, "You should try to let it swim. Put some paddles on those back tires." And they did that, too. Why not? So, they printed up some 3D paddles, put that on the tires, and let it set sail. Look at that.

[00:15:04]All right, I'm getting off topic here.

[00:15:05]Let's get back to the Terra Moto X.

[00:15:08]Long run time, fast charging. It'll run for 3 hours and then charge for 90 minutes. And double that if you're doing the extra batteries. That is the end of the Terra Moto X. So, I have a lot of faith in this company. I don't think it's too big of a risk if you want to back it, but just remember that's how Kickstarter works.

[00:15:32]You're not buying the robot, you're backing the company.

[00:15:36]And in turn, you get a reward of the product. So, Kickstarter's not like buying something off Amazon. There is risk involved, so be sure you understand how Kickstarter works before you drop two or three thousand dollars on Kickstarter.

[00:15:57]So, we're going to move on to the next one. This is the Gokou Elm 6. You can see they have 286 backers, $589,000 collected. Let's go ahead and watch their video and see what this one's about.

[00:18:15]It does have expandable batteries also, up to 6 hours with the expandable batteries. For the Goco, I think the cutting height is the same for both of the blades. So, the razor blades will go down to 25 and go up to 100. And the straight blades are the same. The way they do it is they have a shroud for each of them. So, there's a different shroud you'll put on for the straight blades and a different one for the razor blades. I think that's how they allow the straight blades to go down so far because this protection piece goes down with them.

[00:18:58]So, the blades always stay behind that protection piece. I think that's uh was part of the issue why the Terramo had trouble getting regulatory approval for the adjustable straight blades. They had to do a little redesign in the last second and they allowed it to go through, but it doesn't go quite as low as the razor blades.

[00:19:22]So, they have four cameras here, two in the front and two on the sides. There are videos out on YouTube showing the GoCo in action as well. So, we'll play this one here real quick. You can see it driving and knocking down quite a substantial amount of grass.

[00:19:40]So, that is impressive looking.

[00:19:45]Four-wheel drive, of course.

[00:19:49]Here, you can see one of the testers was putting it to work on a slope, testing it out.

[00:19:57]Now, the independent front wheel steering is going to be able to turn tighter. So, you can see how tight this one can turn without having to back up and do any jigs. So, this one does have to turn around at the end of each pass it makes, but the way these wheels turn so sharply, it just pivots in place, but without the grass damage like the Luba does. Luba is a great robot, but it is infamous for tearing up some lawns, especially in sandy areas or poor lawn areas. If you have like a nice thick lush lawn, it's going to be more robust, but if you got a sandy lawn, Luba can tear that thing up if you're not careful. Has the standard stuff like automating your lawn with a schedule.

[00:20:49]Multi-fusion positioning, it has a regular RTK or NRTK and it uses V-SLAM.

[00:20:57]So, this is going to be RTK first, vision backup. So, it's bit different than what Terra does. AI obstacle avoidance, everybody pretty much has that nowadays.

[00:21:12]Multi-zone management, no-go zones, this is all standard stuff. Again, they are showing you the different types of blades here.

[00:21:22]Straight blades running at 5,000 RPMs.

[00:21:25][clears throat] I do like that they have the screen here. If you don't have your phone available, you can somewhat control the robot here on the screen. I saw the Terramo X actually has a screen as well, but I have not seen any details on how you interact with it yet. And here is the specifications for the Goco M6.

[00:21:50]Now, this one says you can store up to 60,000 square meters. So, this one's a bit different from how the Terramo. The Terramo has a hard limit at 11,000 square meters. This one allows you to map as much as you want.

[00:22:10]It's obviously not going to be able to cut 60,000 square meters, but there's no artificial limit. So, if that's something you're aiming for is the maximum amount of cutting ability, even if the robot's not going to be able to realistically do it, then get this one if that's something that bothers you. They will allow you to map up to 60,000 square meters. It can run on VSLAM for up to 10 minutes.

[00:22:38]So, keep in mind if you lose your satellite coverage under a tree, then it can only go for 10 minutes. The VSLAM will start getting more inaccurate as time goes on, and after about 10 minutes, it's it's not going to be able to mow anymore. Here is maximum coverage per day, battery type, mowing time, and charging time.

[00:23:03]This one also comes in quite a bit cheaper at $18.99.

[00:23:09]So, that's going to be without any extras. You just get the blades and the robot.

[00:23:15]So, you don't you're not going to get the extra batteries or anything. I don't know how much the extra batteries actually cost. So, if you want the extra battery bundle, it's $20.99. So, it still comes in cheaper than the Terra Mo. This is Kickstarter. I don't know this company. I've never used any of their products. I don't know if they're going to be able to deliver. So, that's just how Kickstarter works.

[00:23:39]I do know Terra Mo. I don't know this one. So, you are risking $2100 when you buy this.

[00:23:48]But, it's here. And hundreds of other people will be losing their money with you if it doesn't deliver. So, I doubt that's going to happen, but you have to look back at the Tron situation, man.

[00:24:00]The Airseekers Tron screwed some people over for years because they didn't deliver on their product. They collected all this money and started delivering them, and then they're like, "Oh, crap, we're out of money."

[00:24:15]And it's been years. I think they're finally starting to be able to finish off delivering to the Kickstarters after 2 years, but that was a situation that made a lot of people mad, the Airseekers Tron. Oh, you can even get more batteries. Here's for $4100, you can get four batteries. Wow.

[00:24:37]Keep mowing forever. Mulching blades, wall mount, extra blades, extra battery costs $2.99 for 12 amp hours. So, that is actually pretty cheap compared to some of the others. We got to move on. This is getting too long.

[00:24:54]So, But we are checking out the one that I like.

[00:24:58]I'm very sad that it hasn't been catching on as much. So, they did hit their goal, but only 37 backers. I don't know why I like this one more. I think I just like the way it looks, to be honest. But, this is the Rocky Bot G7 All Wheel Drive. Let's take a look at their video.

That can be a problem on some of the other robot mowers, but they use just the razor blade system here, and it's a 267 W.

[00:27:54]All right, so that is your Rocky Bot video. So this one says you have a 30-day return guarantee. That's pretty unique with Kickstarter to be honest.

[00:28:04]Free shipping and tax included and a 3-year warranty. Shipping begins in August. So this one is coming pretty quickly. Terrabot has said they're going to be starting shipping as soon as the Kickstarter ends as well. They are ready for production. I don't know about the GoCut when they say they're going to ship. I I didn't see. Here is your Rocky Bot. Like I said, I don't know why I like this one over the GoCut, but I just do. Maybe it's the name because I watched that movie a few months ago that had little the little Rocky guy that everybody loves. But this one's pretty similar to the others. It has the all-wheel drive. It can go over obstacles. It has the independent steering in the front that's with the powered wheels. So that's going to be able to turn without causing any lawn damage.

[00:29:03]It has two 264 W motors in the front.

[00:29:06]Now this one's going to be only razor blades. There is no straight blade option. But like I've said multiple times before, I like the razor blades.

[00:29:15]They do a great job. It has network RTK and V-SLAM. It has the standard AI obstacle detection. It'll be looking for things that aren't grass and avoid them.

[00:29:25]It says it covers up to 2.5 acres. So it's a competitor with the Terrabots, the Goccos. It's recommended to go 2.5 acres. But it's mapping is unrestricted to a large ridiculous amount. I'm going to imagine that the Rockybot here is restricted on its map size, but I don't know that for sure. It was at CES just like the others. There are some videos out on YouTube showing it in action in real life.

[00:30:03]I don't recognize this one. So.

[00:30:07]This is how Rockybot handles a slope.

[00:30:10]You can see going up.

[00:30:12]They're probably manually controlling it in this picture just for the example.

[00:30:17]But it has no problems turning on that slope with the powered front wheels.

[00:30:24]And it's not going to be causing ruts or grass damage the way other robots would.

[00:30:32]Look at it turning on that hill.

[00:30:36]Now ideally, if you were working a hill like this, you would want it to go up and down instead of crossways.

[00:30:42]But with this kind of wheel design, you are able to go crossways if you want.

[00:30:47]Handles rough terrain, steep slopes.

[00:30:51]Never seen any of them advertise wet grass, but I guess clogging underneath the deck, they don't think this is going to be a problem.

[00:31:50]This is an estate. So, if you have an estate, you can take care of it with your Rockybot.

[00:31:58]Or three or 10 of them. I mean, if you have an estate, you can probably buy a fleet of Rockybots.

[00:32:07]Has the ride on edge cutting.

[00:32:09]Multi-directional mowing, so you can create angles in your grass customized however you want it. If you want it to go in both directions or multiple directions or whatever you need here.

[00:32:21]No antenna setup. It uses RTK and V-SLAM.

[00:32:26]Manage up to 100 zones.

[00:32:30]So, I guess you can have 100 zones and multiple maps. So, that's a good thing to know here.

[00:32:38]OTA updates, free 4G service for 3 years. That is something I know Terrame is going to charge you for the 4G service if they don't reach their stretch gold.

[00:32:50]If they reach the stretch goal, 4G is free for 1 year.

[00:32:55]But if they don't, you have to pay for it. This one it says free 4G for 3 years. A 3-year warranty on the device and 2 years on the battery.

[00:33:07]And here is your specifications.

[00:33:10]G7 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000. Probably the only difference here is going to be the battery size. Otherwise, they are identical. Just a software restriction.

[00:33:23]13.8 inches, 350 mm.

[00:33:27]Yeah.

[00:33:28]See, you even get the same battery with the mid-size one. It's just a software restriction. So, the only real difference is going to be the 10,000 comes with a larger battery.

[00:33:39]Otherwise, it's all just software.

[00:33:43]That's how these companies make their money and they are able to sell it cheaper.

[00:33:48]So, they sell the the smaller ones cheaper and the bigger ones more expensive, obviously. So, you can see the 3,000 here is $1,800.

[00:33:59]The 5,000 is $2,000 and the 10,000 is $2,500. These are great prices for what you get if it delivers. I mean, it is Kickstarter. If it delivers, $2,500 is great for 10,000.

[00:34:15]I mean, you're paying this much for like a a 3,000 Luba. So, the 10,000 model, I haven't even seen prices on the 10,000 Luba yet. But the 5,000 Luba is quite a bit more than this. 26, or 27, 28, somewhere in there. So, you're getting a good deal for your money.

[00:34:37]You're getting the four-wheel drive, the special steering, and uh 24.99. Or, if you just have a small yard, you don't even have to pay that much.

[00:34:46]You can get the 3000 model for 17.99.

[00:34:50]So, this one and the Goco, I think, compete well with each other. So, if you look here, the the cheap Goco is 18.99.

[00:35:04]The cheap Rocky is 17.99. So, Rocky's a little bit cheaper. Goco is uh $100 more for the smallest one. But, remember with the Goco, there's no different sizes. You only have to buy the larger battery pack.

[00:35:22]It's the littlest one is going to have the maximum size. There's just no hope in it ever being able to mow that much on one battery. So, for the Goco, you have to buy the batteries to get more coverage.

[00:35:36]And the Rocky, you have to buy the size that you need, because it's going to be software locked.

[00:35:43]And that's kind of like the Terramo. The Terramo here, you have the essential coverage bundle, and that's 26.99.

[00:35:52]So, it's quite a bit of an increase over the other two, but it is a much larger robot. So, you're getting the 20-in cutting, instead of the 16, or the 13. So, keep that in mind. And remember, the way the Terra works is the base robot only has half the coverage, I think, 6000 square meters.

[00:36:15]So, if you want the larger coverage, you have to get the extra battery option with the Terramo, and that is limited to 11,000 square meters.

[00:36:28]The max coverage bundle is 3398. So, that is a significant premium over the other two.

[00:36:36]But again, I really like the Terramo. I know they're great and I'm very confident it's going to deliver. The other two, I can't say anything about cuz I've never tried them and I don't know much about the company. So, just keep that in mind when you're considering your robot.

[00:36:54]So, Terramo is 2699 or 3398 for the large one. So, the Goco, the way it works, it is 1899 for the regular one or 2099 for one extra battery. Or you can just buy as many extra batteries as you want for $299 a pop. And that's not a bad price for the 12 amp hour. So, the extra batteries on the Terramo here, 3398 take away 2699 are $700.

[00:37:34]So, Terramo is charging you more than double the price for the extra batteries compared to Goco. So, that's another thing to keep in mind.

[00:37:43]You get what you pay for, but the Terramo is a bit pricey here compared to the competition.
