[00:00:15]A modern AI workload does not run on a single chip. Training these models requires thousands of GPUs to operate [music] in tight, perfect synchronization.

[00:00:25]The bridge currently connecting those thousands [music] of chips is copper interconnects, the standard material used in almost every [music] data center design today.

[00:00:33]This means the intelligence of an AI is strictly limited by [music] the physical speed at which these localized chips can talk to each other over a metal wire.

[00:00:41]Copper winding possesses an unbreakable physical speed limit when transferring data. [music] As next-generation AI demands massive increases in data volume, copper cannot move the information fast enough. The flow of data physically bottlenecks. Pushing more data through these legacy wires leads to [music] severe signal degradation and creates enough heat to damage the server racks themselves. We have hit a wall where software optimization can no longer fix a hardware limitation. Without a new medium for data transmission, the AI revolution stalls out. To break that bottleneck, [music] engineers are abandoning electrons in favor of light. This requires a shift to a design [music] known as co-packaged optics. Optical glass fiber is now embedded directly into the chip-to-chip signaling architecture. This removes the distance [music] data has to travel before it converts into light, allowing for massive volumes of instantaneous data transfer. [music] Nvidia is planning to deploy this specific glass fiber technology across all of its next-generation [music] rack-scale AI designs. Solving the physics problem has created a new industrial one, a sudden, massive demand for high-performance glass.
