MG Can Reverse Itself Out of a Dead End! Plus the ‘One-Touch Pull Out’ Feature!
Added:Allison. I am the director of products and planning here at NG Motors in the UK. Um, now autonomous driving technology, well, that's something we've heard an awful lot about over the last few years. And whilst some of it has been genuine progress, others have been seen as perhaps more hindrance. The reality for many drivers across the UK and Europe is that the jury is still very much out uh on the usefulness of a lot of these systems.
So what is our approach? Well, our goal is to make ADAS systems which are mature, reliable and trustworthy a reality. So they actually fit in with the way drive. I will share with how we have got to where we are today and the solutions of what we have got coming next demonstrating why we believe that energy is in a really great position to do this.
But before we get into the more technological details of our engineering approach, I want to establish our core vision which is making more mature and reliable AAS systems an everyday reality. Now our goal is to make daily driving safer and less stressful using systems which are reliable and you don't need to second guess. This is the guiding principle behind everything which you will see today.
And core to these principles is real world data. Too often you will encounter AAS systems which feel like they have been developed for a completely different approach network and have received little or no calibration for use elsewhere. The result being a frustrating user experience which often results in drivers simply just turning them off. So what are we doing differently? Firstly, we have tested our systems across hundreds of thousands of kilometers across Europe because if you want a system which is able to handle roundabouts, priority rules and narrow city streets, then it has to be trained to do these things in the [clears throat] real world. That is the foundation. European data, European roads, European driving habits refined for the way that you actually drive.
So what have we actually done? Well, as of December 2025, we have collected real driving data across 24 European countries covering 1.2 million km on real roads in all conditions in every season securely. This means the systems are trend here on real roads every single day to achieve the goal that they react so smoothly and naturally. The driver does not even know they are active in normal everyday driving.
So what does refined European roads mean in practice? Well, on the screen you will see three everyday scenarios where we can demonstrate the systems are being trained to handle. And in the interest of the presentation, the videos are slightly speeded up.
Firstly, roundabouts. Well, not just navigating them, but understanding the flow, when to yield, when to go, how to position the car correctly. Secondly, shared space with trams. Now this is a very European city center situation where the system has to recognize them, anticipate their movement and react accordingly which means slowing down, giving way or adjusting position and finally giving way as a junction where you are required to stop. The system does it exactly the same as a driver would before pulling away smoother.

Let's just take a moment to review what we already have available today with our one-touch IAB system which is standard equipment the MG IM5 and the MG IM6 and this is a comprehensive system that tackles four unique everyday parking challenges seamlessly and safely.
Now, these scenarios will be all too familiar to everyone in the room when it comes to trying to find somewhere to park. Spaces which are too narrow because the car park next to you is badly positioned. Lanes which are not capable of taking one car, dead ends which you accidentally driven down in an unfamiliar area or pedestrians, bikes or rescuers popping up behind you when you are trying to maneuver into space.
parking for many people is far from a pleasurable experience.
And like I say, we already have a solution and as I've already mentioned, it is standard equipment for the thousands of UK customers. We've already taken delivery of an MGM5 and MGM6.
It went on sale here in the UK in September of last year. But what makes our OneTouch IED stand out? Well, there are three things that spring to mind.
It's versatile. It is efficient. And it is safe and smart.
Let's put this versatility into more context. Now, unlike many parking systems, our one-touch IED does not rely on the perfect conditions of clear markings, standard bays, and no obstacles. It handles the situations that drivers actually encounter. Over 30 complex scenarios, be they narrow alleys, underground car parks, tight residential streets, or multi-story car parks. Different surfaces, ashtar, concrete, gravel, and different marking standards, faded lines, inconsistent lines, or no lines at all. Onetouch curbside parking, which is being demonstrated here, is exclusive to MG.
No other brand offers this and it works on unmarked spaces and in open areas.
Versatility means that drivers are not forced to find the perfect space.
Onetouch IAD works in the real world.
And efficient means fewer taps, fewer maneuvers, and less waiting.
[clears throat] Our system starts searching for spaces at low speeds for quick recognition and execution. And like many systems, our onetouch traverse, which is being demonstrated here, remembers your path up to the previous 100 m. Great. If you have driven into a dead end in the dark by mistake. And I want to pull out that offers you the way that you want to go, not the way the car wants to go.
Efficiency is all about reducing stress, giving drivers more confidence in the system.
And whilst speed and ease are important, they are of course nothing without safety. So our system allows you to stay in control, proactive and transparent with easy to follow instructions at all times, using the 360° camera to provide real-time trajectory and distance.
Mirisa also dip to allowing you to see the curb and fold automatically if the space is narrow. If a pedestrian walks behind you, well, the system breaks and resumes when wall is clear.
So that is where we are today. What do we have to look forward to? Well, we currently have four new enhancements which are in development. These are head in park and tail out exit. And this will be available on a refreshed MGIM5 and NGIM6 which is due very soon. [snorts] And for a future MGIM SUV model, remote straight line parking via your smartphone, remote parking via your smartphone and parking position preference, either left, center, or right. With the philosophy of all of these being the same, it's not about what is technically possible. It's about optimizing them for how European drivers actually park.
So head in parking and tail at exit. It is exactly as it sounds. So if you are parking driving into a supermarket or a hotel where access to the boot is desirable, then the system will park nose in and exit tail. Simple and practical.
And here is the second. This is remote straight line parking. So, a familiar scenario to lots of people will be narrow car parks where you might be able to park, but you will struggle to get out, especially if you have some mobility issues. Soon, you'll be able to step out before parking or step in once the car has moved, all via your smartphone or key. So, no more squeezing in or climbing in across the seats. This is not full remote parking and steering just forwards and backwards. And for many tight spaces, this is all that you need.
[snorts] But what about a scenario where you do need steering? Well, we will have that too. This would be for the scenario where the space is genuinely difficult to get access to or to be able to open the door from, such as at the end of a car park. With remote parking assistance, you can stand outside the car, use your phone, and command the car to park itself or out itself. You just see the car.
And finally, parking position preference. This one's a little bit different, and it's more than just about where you park, but how to park with consideration for others. In this scenario, think about where you may be parking next to a large SUV or a van with a wide opening door where they may struggle to exit and you risk damaging your shiny new MGM.
[clears throat] So, you can ask the system to park where it is most optimal to the car next to you, be that on the left or the right rather than the center.
Now, let's talk about highway driving.
We already have advanced capability standard across the Energy Bion range with a full sensor suite of 3mm wave radars, nine HD cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, which are designed for continuous upgrade. Adaptive cruise control and lane centering control for more relaxed highway driving. Command lane change allows you to change lanes when you go and lane departure warning.
warning to alert you uh if you start to deviate unintentionally. Now, all of these systems are constantly being refined for European driving habits and we've already made the alerts and the HMI less intrusive and more intuitive based on real driver feedback. This is what we can deliver today and this is how it is evolving.
Now the next innovation to come is NOA which stands for navigate on autopilot.
Now the system which is already collecting real world data in France and Germany enables the car to navigate from on-ramp to offramp including automatic lane selection, overtaking and junction handling. The testing which is currently being carried out includes refinements on roundabouts, priority rules and motorway interchanges. this extensive testing all part of our goal for making autonomous driving systems reliable and trustworthy.
With this in mind, we have two clear milestones to announce today. The first is that by late 2027, we will have highway NOA compliance with European standards and we are aiming for 2028 for an urban based couplet. But we'll come back to you on that when we have more detail. For now, [clears throat] let's have a quick look at some of the development work which is going on already.

[music] >> [music] >> But what we can say is that our highway NOA will be coming on a upcoming NG SUV in 2027. And as soon as this technology is locally validated and ready for European roads, our customers will be able to [clears throat] experience it.
And to give you a further glimpse at what else is happening, there are already trials underway of level four autonomy in defined [clears throat] operational areas. Unlike level two, level four requires no driver input and is already in robo taxi prototypes in Abu Dhabi. real roads and real traffic.
There is no timeline here, but it's important to show that we're not waiting. You're already preparing for what is coming next. We'll finish with a final video. Have a quick look at what is going on already.
