When medical treatment offers no hope of improvement for a terminally ill animal, the appropriate approach is hospice care focused on pain management and comfort rather than aggressive medical interventions; veterinarians prescribe medications like methadone, pregabalin, and paracetamol to control pain and ensure the animal's remaining time is spent in dignity and comfort.

We’re Taking Liska HomeAdded:
So, we're coming to the hospital to see Liska. We have the results of the CT scan.
It doesn't look good.
Well, Liska is holding on.
Six. It's true that we've got a lot going on.
I sent you a video where she was eating a little from my hand.
How are you giving it to her? With a syringe. Because otherwise she won't No.
We use an insulin syringe, put it right inside, and gently give it to her bit by bit.
Liska. Liska.
We're going home, champion.
We're going home.
>> [music] >> Let's go home.
What a cuddle you're giving me, Liska.
There's nothing like daddy's arms, is there?
Poor little thing.
>> [music] >> So, yes.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> This is her happiest position.
Isn't [music] it?
>> [music] >> So, tell you what the plan is.
She's coming home.
She's coming home as as it is now with some medication.
Drugs for the pain.
And then we will not do chemotherapy, obviously.
There's no point. There's nothing we can do medically.
So, we will just keep her there. We will wait with her.
She will have fun with her friends.
Everybody will hang out with her for a few more days.
Then, when the time comes, then she will leave us.
Obviously, there's no point of >> [laughter] >> making her go through unnecessary treatments uh that we know they're not going to work.
If we had any hope, we would do it.
But, but there's the point where you know there is medically, there's no hope whatsoever to even improve the situation. So, hospice care.
Yeah.
They're going to be so happy to see you.
Okay. [music] >> [music] >> Antibiotics and paracetamol.
We can add pregabalin as well if you want. I can write you a prescription and we'll start it so she's more comfortable.
>> [music] >> What I would really like is something for the pain. She's trembling with pain.
Yes, pregabalin could help but I can give her something for the pain now.
>> [music] >> This is usually sign of pain. So, we're going to give her something she'll be more comfortable. And then she's going to be on pain medication every 8 hours at home.
>> [music] >> I've given her methadone for the journey. Bloody hell. No, but it's good.
She should be comfortable.
Yeah. There's more than one person out there who'd love a shot of methadone.
We can give her the pregabalin by mouth.
She takes it well.
Okay.
One every 8 hours. And if she stays as calm as she is now, every 12.
It's just that she's trembling and that trembling is from pain.
Yes, you can give the paracetamol by mouth.
Every 8 hours, right? Yes.
If she were more active, you know what I mean?
But possibly the fact that she's so completely flat could be related to the pituitary gland.
I think for Liska keeping her pain under control so she stays comfortable.
Thank you for your trust.
Come on then Liska.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> It's half a tablet every 12 hours and the other one you already know.
We can give one in the morning and one at night.
The paracetamol is 1.8 every 8 hours.
Has she had it this morning? Yes, but intravenously. Wait, I'll put a cap on here and put this away.
>> [music] [music] >> Sweetheart, what an absolute darling you are.
Thank you. No, thank you.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Let's go home now.
Stay with her.
They're all here watching.
Oh my god.
Poor little thing. She can't even make it to the bed.
Don't worry, sweetheart.
It's all right now.
>> [music] [music] >> I don't know what that is.
>> [music] >> I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what [music] that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
I don't know what that is.
