Watch for Isolated Severe Storms New Jersey Eastern Pennsylvania South, Better Day Mother's Day

[00:00:00]Hi everybody, Joe Cioffi here weather in a minute Saturday the 9th of May and we've got rain this afternoon. You can see it's a lot of clouds moving across the northeast and northern mid-Atlantic states. Now, there's a bit of a warm sector that has set up in southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania and points south. You can see the clouds are a lot thinner there and this is an area that the Storm Prediction Center has indicated that perhaps there could be uh an isolated severe thunderstorm possibility. So, they've outlined an area covering much of New Jersey uh eastern Pennsylvania uh down into Delaware and into northeastern Maryland.

[00:00:38]Not seeing a whole lot of convective activity at the moment as we uh check out the radar. Uh you'll notice that there's some heavier rains uh breaking out in parts of eastern Pennsylvania along I-81 as of 1:30 this afternoon and also another area to the west. This whole area of echoes will move rather quickly uh during the rest of this afternoon and most of this should be done by this evening, but we'll watch for the possibility of something popping up in southern areas of New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania uh late late in the afternoon before all of this moves offshore to the northeast. It's another one of these nickel and dime events that we've been dealing with and if you notice on the um late morning uh surface map, a warm front has been analyzed across uh northeast Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey to just north of Long Island. Uh we've got uh temperatures uh probably trying to push their way up into the upper 60s and low 70s uh for uh the afternoon hours uh into New Jersey and points southward and then the cold front is with this uh is still a ways to the west and this is going to be coming through late Sunday afternoon and evening. That's another period where we could see the possibility that there's a uh a a a shower or thunderstorm that pops up. I think the best chances for that will be from northern New Jersey and the Hudson Valley north and east. Uh not a guarantee that anybody's going to get that. And then in between, Mother's Day is going to be fine. So, here's our surface map here going into tomorrow evening. And you see a little bit of precip there pops up in New Jersey. The morning and afternoon should be okay.

[00:02:23]There also might be some patchy fog to start the day on Sunday. The front temporarily gets hung up. We get a little bit of a wave and maybe some rain on Monday morning.

[00:02:33]Uh it should be out by uh early afternoon. And then cooler air comes in for Tuesday. Another warm front cold front combination sets up for Wednesday with some showers early in the day on Wednesday and then maybe a shower or thunderstorm late in the afternoon and evening. Drier air comes back on Thursday. Happy Mother's Day.
