The 1995 Mortal Kombat film's PG-13 rating resulted in less brutal and weightless fight scenes compared to the R-rated 2021 version, demonstrating how content rating restrictions can significantly impact the authenticity and impact of action sequences in films.

Mortal Kombat 1995 Is Missing The R RatingAjouté :
And the new Mortal Kombat leans into the R rating for the violence that the video games are known for, but this 1995 one is lacking in that department because it decided to be PG-13.
That is felt through the whole thing because all of the fights lack any kind of weight or brutality to them. I'm not shocked by that given that this was Paul W.S. Anderson, the guy who did Monster Hunter, which I covered, but is most famous for the Resident Evil franchise.
This was one of his first films, but his movies have always had something missing when it comes to the action. Something about them just feels off. Don't get me wrong, the fighting is still really good and there's a few longer shots that really show off how hard the actors work to get all of this down, but I think without the blood, the guts, and the fatalities, especially like what we saw in the 2021 version, it's just missing that little something.
