[00:00:06]By most scientific definitions, something alive  must grow, use energy, respond to its environment, and reproduce on its own. Viruses fail  almost all of that. Outside a host cell, a virus does absolutely nothing. No metabolism, no  movement, no growth. It's basically a microscopic packet of genetic instructions frozen in  time. But the moment it enters a living cell, it hijacks the entire system and forces the cell  to build thousands of new viruses. So what is it? Alive or just an insanely complex chemical  reaction. And then scientists discovered giant viruses like mim virus which are bigger than  some bacteria and even contain genes linked to DNA repair. That completely broke the old  definition of life. Some scientists now think viruses might actually be ancient life forms  that evolved to become parasitic over billions of years. Meaning the line between living and  non-living may not even exist. It might just be a spectrum. So here's the question. Are  viruses alive? Comment alive or not alive?
