Why people think people with albinism can’t dye their hairAdded:
Sharing my video where I said, "Did you know people with albinism can't dye their hair?" sparked a lot of controversy around why people think this and why people believe that you can't dye your hair as someone with albinism.
And I well I think this speaks for itself. Many people believe that melanin is really closely related to your hair color, which it is. So people with dark brown hair will have a lot more melanin than people with blonde hair. And this is true. But what this doesn't mean, what some people think is that because our hair has no pigment or a little bit that the hair dye won't stick to it because there's no pigment to hold on to. This is not how hair dye works. Hair dye works by opening up the hair cuticles or whatever it's called and depositing the hair dye into it or wrapping itself around the hair. But people think that since I have no pigment in my hair that it wouldn't stick to it. This is a stereotype that unfortunately gets confirmed by the Disney film zombies where the main character has white hair and actively hides it, says that she can't dye it, which is most people's first interaction with white hair, which is why that stereotype is then reinforced. So, can people with albinism dye their hair?
Yes, cuz this is nothing to do with melanin or pigment or anything. So, people think this because of misinformation and the media just reconfirming it. I hope that answered why people think you can't dye your hair and follow for more myth busting.
