Super Bowl traffic concerns grow in Nashville ahead of Big GameAdded:
I'm sure there's going to be a lot of traffic, a lot of people coming into town.
And the Super Bowl in Nashville is estimated to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors, and with that, a lot of traffic. Those who drive around Music City certainly know there's already been plenty of gridlock in the past few years. Fox 17 News' Hope Salmon is joining us live in North Nashville, where drivers certainly want to know, Hope, that city planners are on the case.
You know all about that traffic, Holly, and good thing they have 4 years to get it together when it comes to traffic, because people say for those who live and work around the city, it could cause a lot more congestion.
Try to stay away from that. I don't want to get stuck for a long time in traffic.
>> Well, big events bring visitors to Nashville. Longtime resident Bassam Melika says he avoids them as much as possible. Melika says he can only imagine how busy the city will be and how long the commute will be when one of the biggest sporting events in the world takes over Music City. During rush hour, it takes, you know, 10-minute drive takes 45 minutes to get to get anywhere. So, it is a bit stressful, but, you know, it's just something we have to deal with. For musicians like Alex Poniato, the crowd is something he's excited about, but not the parking. It's brutal. It's hard to get around. Nashville's Mayor Freddie O'Connell did say improvements are on the way. We're going to continue to focus on transit access. We have parking obligations already with the new stadium. We have new pedestrian infrastructure, too. So, in addition to the Seigenthaler Bridge, we hope there's a new one up there.
And we'll have a lot of traffic management plans.
And we'll keep it tracking those improvements and let you know as we get that information. I'm reporting live in Nashville. I'm Hope Salmon, Fox 17 News, your Code Red station.
