This video demonstrates practical amateur radio equipment testing, where Dave M0OGY evaluates the TYT TM-D70W transceiver on the 2-meter Ham band using a high-gain Sirio ZN-22C mobile antenna. The on-air test reveals that the radio performs excellently, producing strong clear signals with 'loud and proud' audio quality, achieving 59 signal reports from multiple stations. Dave notes that the radio works particularly well when positioned near the river with line-of-sight propagation, and the test confirms the equipment's reliability for amateur radio communications.

TY Tech TM-D70W Amateur Radio 2M "On-Air" Tests (07/05/2026)Added:
That's the antenna we're using tonight on 2 mters. It's the uh big sero center mounted antenna on a mag mount on the roof.
I will show you another antenna that I have got for 2 m in a moment.
That's the other antenna I use. But uh the mast the stretch towers tilted over.
I do have a antenna made by Comet. It's a Comet antenna, a tribander right at the top of there, but it's tilted out tonight. So, that's the reason. Lovely night tonight here in Lincolnshire.
>> North mate. Can I have a name? And uh where about you are over?
>> Yeah. Okay. Um, the name's Dave and uh the call sign is Mike Zero, Oscar Golf Yankee and I'm about uh 6 milesi uh from the Humber Bridge in North Lincolnshire.
>> Okay, Dave, good uh good to you, mate.
Uh for the first time, I think, not too sure, but yeah, you're welcome on the net. Anyway, uh you're plus 20 with me anyway, Dave.
>> Yeah. Okay. Um, I'm just testing a new radio, uh, a TM D70 Whiskey, uh, by TY Tech. So, I just got a mag on the garage roof, actually. So, uh, just heard you all on. I guess you're over.
Are you in Hull Hall area?
>> Uh, just checking. Yeah, pretty much most of us are. John's in uh, Cotttingham, but everybody else is in and around all, you know, whether it be East West or or Northlight. So, uh, yeah, they should be able to hear your farm. actually pretty good going actually for a mad mount to be honest.
>> Yeah. Well, it's uh quite a large antenna. It's a um sero uh center loaded antenna. So, it's running it's about 8 8 and 1 half foot long and I'm running 70 W. So, it's uh not a bad set really. Uh I'm actually I hope you don't mind. I'm actually filming this QSO as I'm I'm testing this radio and uh reviewing it.
>> Uh yeah, no problem, mate. I should have done me air, shouldn't I? But I Yeah, no worries, mate. Uh, right, if you don't mind hanging about then, uh, we'll we'll go back to an uh, so we can go around the houses and, uh, yeah, everybody will get to you shortly. Welcome on board anyway, Dave. An M0 PBG. Over to you, mate.
>> Mhm. M0 PVG. Cheers for that. Uh, right.
I'll move on then cuz uh after Alex I'll talk to John. M0 JBA.
Copy. M0 PVG.
M0 PVG. M0 JBA. Yeah. Uh, answer. I've gone up to 45 W now so that um hopefully John can hear me. And yeah, you're uh 59 plus end stopping as usual.
>> All right. You've just zoomed up from you you was a good five down and now you you shot up to plus 20 to your usual. So you still get through on half a what?
But uh like you might not get the distance like to Jonathan. I don't know if he's getting you now. If you want to ask him over >> M1 CAV M0 JBA evening Jonathan, can you hear me now?
>> No, apparently not. Back to uh All right, I'll give him a show. I won't tell him that. Uh, Jonathan M1 CAV. Uh, John's just tried getting you on five watts and obviously he didn't answer.
So, uh, I just thought I'd let you know that he was trying to get you. So, never mind. Anyway, I'll carry on talking to John to John. Yeah, I take it. You've been to uh seaside again today.
M0 PBG M0 GBA. Yeah. Back to seaside. A little bit of sunshine and uh yeah traditional now traditional championships. Sometimes I've had it with generally scampy. Oh, just a quick mass of interest. When you when you get throughout Jonathan again, we ask him what power he is on just so can compare what I get with and what he doesn't get me with. Over.
Um, there's a lovely chop block in a little waterproof box. Uh, it's a proper Robinson, but it works over. All right, Roger. As long as it works, that's all that matters these days. Anyway, yeah, you're coming through loud and proud.
So, I'll uh move on to is it Dave? Um, M0.
Copy. M0 PBG.
>> M0 PBG. Mike Zero, Oscar Golf Yankee.
Yeah. Getting you all uh pretty well.
>> Roger, you coming across here nice and proud. Uh just give us another modulation. I'll give you a report.
>> Yeah. Okay. Um yeah, it's uh as I said a little earlier, it's a new radio. Um a TY tech radio. Um and uh with a stock microphone. So yeah, you're sounding really rock solid this way.
>> Yeah. Ro, you're giving me a five and nine there. Uh, loud loud and proud.
Well, I'm just near I don't know if you know who, but uh I'm not far away from the river. So, I'm in West just near the Aster in West. So, it's it's not that far to the actual bank of the river from here. I'd say about quarter of a mile.
So, yeah, I should be getting across there pretty good. Okay.
>> Yeah, your absolute end scale uh deflection fully quietening. So you yeah you spawn mate you sound really good. Uh the other station who was just talking to you on the beam uh running horizontal polarization he uh he was five and nine to me so you know he was fairly strong.
>> Oh Roger did you get that uh Jonathan uh M0 y said you you was really strong across in the in Lincoln show over >> Yeah. Um he's very strong to me. He's five and nine. But um I'm near the river and they're just flat land. If you're in Lincolnshire, I've practically got line of sight to you, Dave, which explains why it's a clear over.
>> Yeah, Roger. Well, I'm I'm right by the river also fairly high up. So, uh whereabouts are you?
>> Uh Alingham, M on the way to W and Sea in between Hull and W.
>> Okay. Well, you're fluctuating a bit on signal, but um you're very close to, you know, solid nine uh on signal. Good audio, punchy audio. Yeah, nice to work you for the first time. I'm not very active on uh 2 m of the ham band. So, um yeah, I just thought I'd turn this on tonight and try it.
>> Well, yeah, coming through great.
>> Yeah, thank you very much.
Right. Anyway, I'll I'll I'll throw it back to uh Rich and then he can pass it on from there. So, M0 KH from M0 PVG.
Cheers for that, An. Thanks a lot, guys.
Right. Anybody want to pop in on the hornet and say hello? M0 KH.
Nothing. M7 LY. Up to you, Alex. Uh if you want to talk to anybody over. Yeah.
Cheers, Rich. Uh Mitch M7. Cheers, M.
Um, well, Jonathan keeps like dropping out on me, so I don't know what's going on there. Yeah, he's there and he's not.
He's there and he's not. But yeah, when he's coming through, he's coming through. Great. But when it's like he drops below the skip level for me, so yeah, I don't know what it is. But yeah, uh, good evening, John. And by the way, you as usual, I've only got four fairy lights. You're lighting them all up. So, but everybody does. Everybody does. So, yeah.
>> Fairy lights. Hey, so over to you, John.
M7Y M0 JBA.
>> Yeah. M7 Y M0 JBA. Good evening, Alex.
Yeah, you're uh you're 59 plus. Well, end stopping as usual. Uh yeah, please stop to vote and say if you don't vote, you shouldn't complain. And we all like to complain, don't we, Alex? Over.
>> Right. So, uh, that's, um, the first sort of real on air tests of the TY Tech TMD70 whiskey.
Um, called in on the Hull net. Never really gone on it for donkey's years.
I'm not really a big net fan, whether it be, you know, on 2 meters, the Ambands or, you know, the CB bands. Um I I get bored quite easily on nets as you're sat twiddling your thumbs for a long time.
Nice to work these guys and uh some big strong clear signals and give me a good audio report. So the radio is working extremely well. I'm very happy with it.
So over the weekend we'll hopefully get a few more contacts. Sadly I've not got a dual band antenna screwed on the mount at the moment. I do have some. So, um, this is quite a high gain 2 m vertical just for the 2 m band. So, on that note, thanks for watching the video. Uh, hope you enjoyed it and best 73 from Dave M0Y.
Catch you on the next one. Bye-bye.
