Dhyana - Home ‒ Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche | 禪定:家 ‒ 宗薩欽哲仁波切Added:
Welcome back, everyone.
Dhyana can be understood in many ways.
It can be understood as... I think for now, let's try to understand it as where you are not distracted, but today, we are also going to talk about the idea of home.
Home is very important, but at the same time is also quite vague.
I think for many home is where you feel you belong.
We also feel that home is where perhaps you experience peace.
Somewhere where it is safe, supposedly.
Supposedly, it is somewhere where it is safe.
Perhaps for some people it is also where your family is.
It's not just for human beings, a lot of beings like animals, like ants, bugs, birds.
Home is kind of important.
This is also where you bring all your shopping back.
This is also where you feel ease.
You probably walk around just in your underwear.
But many times it's only on an ideal level.
Many times home is also where everything goes wrong.
Actually some people feel they have no home.
Especially modern people, I think they feel less and less that they have a place called home.
I think a lot of people, we stay in a rented place, right?
For a lot of people, your own suitcase is almost like a home.
For a lot of people, you feel more at ease with a stranger than your own family member.
Now according to Buddha, the real home is the mind that you have.
Your mind is where you always come back, no matter what.
But the problem is, most of us, we are always going out of this home.
And then, outside your home you face all kinds of challenges, and instead of really trying to come back home, we drift further.
So today, what we are going to do is let us try to come back to this home.
So for that, let us just be however you are.
Whether you are standing, walking, just be there without any specific posture.
Be there for a few moments.
Try not to entertain yourself.
Try not to... don't send messages.
Don't read your phone.
Don't look at a specific object.
Just be how you are.
So let's do that for a few minutes, I mean a few seconds.
If you are hearing a dog barking, just listen.
If your mind is beginning to wander, thinking a lot of things, just come back to where you are.
This mind that you have is going to be with you all the time.
Even your beloved body may change, or even it may perish, but mind continues.
And this mind that you have is also the most powerful.
If you know how to be with this mind, this mind is the most peaceful and the safest.
No matter what you face, if you know how to be in this home, you will always find security, some sort of escape.
So let us now first watch our body, because your body is so connected to your mind.
So when I say watch your body, you don't have to go through every detail.
Just notice your body.
Okay, let's do that.
Okay. Next, let's watch our feeling.
It can be your physical feeling, such as feeling itchy or pain, or more importantly, your feelings such as sadness or hunger.
That kind of feeling.
Okay. So, let's watch our feeling.
Okay.
If your body— we are talking about home— so if your body is the roof, ceiling, walls, and floor, okay, then feeling is more like your bed, furniture, kitchen.
But in your home, there must be a place where you put your precious things, where you hide things, a safety box, or maybe like a bedroom.
That is your mind.
And also there's something else.
You know, we have references.
You know, there's like, "I'm a man."
"She is a woman."
"I'm a Buddhist."
"He is a Hindu," or doesn't matter—color, shape, nationality, all these different references.
This also is a big part of our home.
So, let us today watch our references.
Let's say, whoever you are, if you are meditating right now.
If you are a woman, just watch this reference.
You call yourself a woman.
I'm not asking you to ask why you are a woman.
I'm just asking you to watch the notion of woman, man, businessman, doctor, nurse.
All kinds of references, whatever references you have.
Okay, let's start.
Okay.
Some of you may think like this.
Okay. We watch. Now what do we do?
You may think like this.
Nothing. Just watching your mind.
Just watching it already makes you come back home.
That's it. We have done almost six minutes today.
So, we have finished this week's Dhyana.
Thank you.
