[00:00:30]Recent developments in the state of Hormuz have underscored the significant risks associated with disruptions to these rule routes with consequences extending well beyond the region.

[00:00:48]In this context and reflecting the shared concerns of the international community, I have the honor to read the following joint statement on behalf of a large group of countries.

[00:01:18]The statement states, "We reaffirm our full support for resolution 2817 condemning Iran's attacks against its regional neighbors.

[00:01:33]Their closure of the state of Hormuz and continued attacks in the state are a threat to international security and to navigational rights and freedoms.

[00:01:46]Free navigation through the strait is a cornerstone of global security and prosperity.

[00:01:56]Navigational rights and freedoms must not be unlawfully threatened or suspended.

[00:02:04]We reiterate our call for the urgent and unimpeded opening of the of the strait.

[00:02:13]We reject any effort to unlawfully threaten or suspend navigational rights and freedoms, including through the imposition of tolls, which would be a breach of international law as reflected in UNC closer.

[00:02:33]We are already seeing global consequences from Iranian actions which are impeding international shipping, driving up costs and sending shock waves through energy markets and cru crucial supply chains far beyond the region, including for vulnerable economies and food insecure populations.

[00:03:01]We reaffirm our support for the vital work of the International Maritime Organization and partners in the region. We will continue to support them and work with the shipping industry to ensure they can resume operations as soon as conditions permit. End of statement. In concluding, I extend my gratitude to all the countries that have joined this statement so far.

[00:03:33]It remains open for other member states of the United Nations to join and we strongly encourage them to do so. I also look forward to today's high level open debate on the safety and protection of waterways in the maritime domain in the security council which will be starting shortly with the participation of more than 80 countries.
