TCHP Chemo, Tamoxifen & Steroids: My Cataract Story

[00:00:00]I developed cataracts after breast cancer treatment.

[00:00:05]My treatment protocol was six rounds of TCHP and then I had to do six additional rounds of just HP, the Herceptin and Perjeta.

[00:00:18]Um and I am on tamoxifen currently and every round of the TCHP I had to take the steroids um really heavy and then even after um my surgery, my first surgery, I had to take steroids really heavy. TCHP, steroids, and um tamoxifen all have the ability to give you cataracts. So, basically I've you know, taken a lot of the the higher risk drugs that can cause that can cause cataracts, so I have cataracts.

[00:01:00]I did meet with my eye doctor and I did additional test for cataracts and I'm actually scheduled um for my first cataract surgery, which they're going to do one eye at a time.

[00:01:14]My first one is August 4th and then my second one is a week later um August 11th and then I have to actually go in July 28th for additional testing prior to the surgery as well as um start putting in the eye drops that they um prescribed for me. So, yeah, if you have gone through chemotherapy um and taken tamoxifen or just have had a time in your life where you had to be on heavy steroids and you notice that your vision is slipping, you could very well have cataracts. So, so far on this journey, um I've had a slight hearing loss as well as vision loss. So, I mean, like my senses >> [laughter] >> So, yeah, that's just an update, but just remember if you're a woman, go get your mammogram. Early detection matters.
