El Niño is a climate pattern that tends to stifle hurricane creation in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean regions by creating atmospheric conditions that make it difficult for tropical storms to develop and intensify.

David Karnes' Tuesday evening weatherAdded:
Well, look at that placid scene behind David Carnes over there. It's beautiful Goose Pond in Scottsboro, Alabama. Just a lovely day.
>> That looks really good, doesn't it? Good day to get out there and fish.
>> You know, I would expect more boats in in the parking lot, cars in the parking lot. I would expect more boats in the water, actually. But yeah, a beautiful day to get out there. Got a few of these. We're going to have really nice weather all week long. Our Mr. Electric Camera provided this beautiful shot of Goose Pond. We love it and it is a nice one out there. Hurricane season started yesterday.
Quick recap of the 2025 season. You can see all of the storms that we had. Not too much in the way of landfall. We had Chantal making landfall as tropical storm and a tropical storm Barry. That made landfall down in Mexico. 13 named storms, five hurricanes, four major hurricanes, and five landfalls altogether. So, wasn't a crazy season. Average, if not a little bit below average. And that's basically what we're forecasting for this year.
Colorado State and NOAA are the two primary agencies that issue forecasts and they are showing, again, average, maybe a little bit below average. We do have an El Niño year, which tends to stifle hurricane creation in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Now, is your name on the list? Well, how about that? We have a Hannah. No, we got a Hannah. No Clay, no David, no but we do have a Hannah.
Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal. Those will be the names that we start out with. Today, warm, nice weather all week. It's going to be warm with clouds on Saturday. Rain chances return on Sunday. Not a great chance of any significant crazy rain like we've had over the past 10 days.
But we could get a few showers here and there. Low 80s, upper 70s right now, 82 in Chattanooga. And we're going to see that humidity staying low through Thursday, Friday, and then we'll start to see those humidity levels creeping up a little bit over the weekend. It's going to be warm, a little more humid, and then we'll see that humidity peaking as we head to Sunday, Monday. That's also when we'll have our next chance for seeing some rainfall as that humidity begins to peak. Uh the radar and satellite showing all of that rain well to our south now. We do have a few showers to the east, even a few nice little thunderstorms here moving through uh Tri-Cities up toward Bristol and Virginia, but in Chattanooga looking good. Now, Futurecast, I am going to put in a slight chance in Cherokee County, maybe one or two isolated showers, but the chance is so low, 20% at best.
Everybody else you're going to have clear skies tonight, no problems at all.
And then as we head on through the day Wednesday, uh we're going to have really nice weather Wednesday morning into Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night into Thursday looking good. That high pressure stays in control. We'll see it drifting eastward a little bit.
Southerly winds on Friday bring more moisture and slightly warmer air in.
That trend will continue on Saturday with southerly winds. No rain on Saturday, but then on Sunday, yeah, chance of a few showers here and there.
That'll be a Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. And then we'll put in a 30% chance for those showers continuing into Monday. So, for tonight, mostly clear, very pleasant night. Uh we'll go from about 66, 67, which is where our morning lows have been, to about 58°.
Yeah, it's going to feel really good tomorrow morning with that lower humidity, coffee on the front porch kind of weather. And then we'll climb to mostly sunny skies and a high of 83.
Just a warm, nice day. Upper 70s in the higher elevations, low 80s in the valley. And your Storm Alert 7-day forecast, no problems, [music] smooth sailing, very comfortable mornings, very nice outdoor afternoons.
We increase the humidity and the clouds over the weekend, and that could lead to a few showers for our Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, but we're keeping the rain chances in check a little bit, 30 to 40%, and that is about it. We won't have any of the same crazy rain like again we've had for the past 10 days. So, enjoy the rest of the week, guys.
