Nisargadatta Maharaj's 'I Am That' means that the true Self is beyond all conceptual knowledge and alternative experiences (world, mate, salary), which are merely make-believe; one must recognize that there is no doer or receiver, only pure awareness, and that the true nature is always present but often forgotten.

I Am That: Understanding Nisargadatta's Profound Truth #freddavis #nonduality #awakeness #awakeningAdded:
I see somebody doing what is considered to be the right thing. That that's good.
And if I see somebody doing what appears to be the wrong thing from the standpoint of awakeness there's no problem cuz there's no shouldn't be doing that and should be doing something else. But that doesn't stop the unit from going up and clobbering somebody from hitting the kid. But that doesn't mean the unit decided that, saw that, decided that on its own. It means it just happened.
That's the way things are in that part of the world, so to speak, in that part of experience. This is all just happening. You know that we say there's no doer, but there's no receiver either.
There's just you and you can say I am that. You need to be keenly aware that you don't know what that is.
Nisargadatta's most famous book was I am that. What did he mean by that?
He meant he didn't mean he was the right-hand man of God or anything like that. He meant I don't even know that there, you know, that what I know is what it is. That's what Nisargadatta's experience was. I know what it is. But all this what isn't that we stay busy with all the time which is our alternative experience our alternative world, our alternative mate, our alternative salary it's make-believe. It's all make-believe and you can really haunt yourself with make-believe. You can make yourself so miserable that you have to turn to this.
And you don't even And you never turn to this. This turned toward you. Forgotten but I I had a friend, I don't remember if he was a teacher or not. Might have been a teacher cuz I heard this story but he was walking through a bookstore and a book on the top shelf a book from the shelf all by itself just fell right in front of him. It just fell off the shelf and it happened to be I am that. That's what that looked like at that moment. That's what you looked like at that moment.
