Nature reserve in Kherson region (Askania Nova)

[00:00:00]In the Herson region, there is a nature reserve called Escan Noa. When I was at my Ukrainian school, we were told a lot about it and our class teacher promised that we would go there together. That never happened. But recently, I found out that it's open again and welcoming visitors.

[00:00:35]The Escania Nova Reserve is very old. It was founded back in the Russian Empire in 1856 by German Duke Friedri Edward Falain. The territory is huge and it's home to many different animal species such as zebras, buffaloos, shalski, horses, and many more. Right now, most visitors come from Crimea. Actually, it's quite far for people from the mainland to travel, and not many people in the mainland Russia know about this place. The most interesting activity they offer is a photo safari. It costs $135, and the prices split among the 10 people taking part. I was lucky because when I arrived, I saw eight people from Crimea who were just about to go on the photo safari.

[00:01:20]We set off in an old bus with Ukrainian license plates. The tour guide told us about the animals and the reserve. From time to time, we stopped and fed the animals. By the way, the animals really love the driver. He is their friend.
