In Napoleonic warfare, the strategic advantage of maintaining centralized reserves under unified command (French Marshal Davu's 80,000-man reserve) versus dispersed coalition forces (Prussians and Russians) creates significant tactical differences in battlefield responsiveness. The French could rapidly deploy reserves to any sector of the battlefield due to superior internal lines of communication, while coalition forces faced command and control challenges when transferring troops between different battlefield sectors. This strategic positioning influenced the Battle of Taucha, where coalition forces launched repeated assaults against French positions but ultimately faced withdrawal orders from General Barclay, resulting in approximately 2,000 coalition casualties compared to significantly fewer French losses.

Battle of Taucha Part 2Hinzugefügt:
Heat.
Heat.
Hey guys, welcome back. So, this is the current situation. Um, from the first video, it was pretty a pretty tentative advance by the Russians and Prussians against the French positions. Um the word has come back from Barlay to basically exercise your own initiative.
Now the situation for the um Prussians and the Russians is that the French are maintaining a very strong and large reserve um in a centralized position to the res the rear of all the various French cores. Uh the reason they've done this is because of the uh uh the way that the battlefield is lined laid out. The French have very very good internal lines of communication, which is a fancy way of saying they can get their reserves to to other parts of the battlefield much easier than it is for the um the coalition to get their reserves to parts of the battlefield.
The other thing is the Prussians, the Russians, the coalition, they have committed all their troops onto various uh sectors or tables of the battlefield.
So for them to send reserves from one table or another, they have to draw troops away from one table and then hand them off to another. There's also a command and control issue because you have troops from one brigade or division being handed off to another division.
And so those issues have to be sorted out as well. the French it's not such an issue because all the reserves are under the command of a single army commander Marshall Davu and he can basically uh take his uh uh 80 camps his uh chief of staff and staff officers and then simply say to a reserve unit right you're off to help um Marshall Victor or you're off to help uh General whoever and off you go and once you get there you will go under command of them. Is that understood and the way they go? So that's that's why things are the way they are. Um so what we're going to go on with now is um so the French uh are forced to maybe commit reserves here as opposed to committing reserves elsewhere. Um, uh, General, uh, Palatto in this area has decided he's going to push against the French, uh, and just maybe that will cause the French to commit reserves to here, which will alleviate the situation for other uh, Prussian or Russian generals elsewhere on the line. So, to better explain this, I'll just use this here. So each one of these represents an infantry division or a cavalry division um or in this case a brigade uh because I don't have small counters for for cavalry. So these are cavalry brigades.
This is three cavalry brigades. That's uh a cavalry brigade there. Uh but generally speaking they all represent divisions. So what we have here is essentially we have um two infantry divisions, two infantry divisions, two infantry divisions, two infantry divisions, two infantry divisions, two infantry divisions. And then the Russians, it's like an infantry division and a cavalry division, an infantry division and a cavalry. And here and there there might be a little bit more cavalry for them than infantry.
So, as you can see, it is easier to go from here to here with a brigade or to here with a brigade or to here with a brigade, then take a brigade or a division of cavary and take it from here and then bring it all the way back down around here. So, internal lines of communication, like I said, a fancy way of saying it's easier for me to get reserves to where I need to go. And these like I said are all under the command of Dvu or more importantly his uh chief of staff and the uh so these guys are not these reserves are not already under command of anyone. They are waiting to be allocated. Whereas if I was to remove uh an infantry brigade or division from here or just a brigade um I would have to withdraw the brigade from the combat.
I would then have to move it to a next uh area of operation. Then would have to be a transfer of command. Uh and all these things um take time. So, with that said, we're now going to uh crack on with the uh continuing with the attack by the coalition forces um over here on our left as you look at it onto the French forces over here on our right.
Okay. So, I've spoken to Dave who has been playing as the Russians and Prussians and he's basically made the argument that just by being here would be enough to tie down these uh French forces. and he's probably correct in in saying that. However, doesn't make for a very exciting game. So, what we're going to do is I'm going to play on anyway. Uh we're going to do this as a bit of a solo effort. Uh cuz Dave's had to go.
But he has suggested a couple of things he might do. Uh he could push with the Prussian guard on this side here. Um or he could bring his heavy cavary on and try to do something in the center.
Before we start though, a couple of quick corrections from part one because there's always mistakes. Uh first thing, uh CSAs, uh they're always in the brigade of their own. No problem there, but they only take six hits and then they disperse. So they are small units.
Uh they're always classed as recruits and they can only take six hits and then they disperse, not 10. I I thought 10 because they were a small unit, but for cosax it's actually six. So they really are very very brittle. So there's that.
Um uh the other thing uh that I forgot to do was um I had the option to bring on uh well I had not not had the option. I actually at the in turn four I rolled um my core commander orders and I had a black dye and I used the black dye to I was going to bring on a brigade uh a brigade of heavy cavalry reserve heavy cavalry but I never brought them on. Uh so we're just going to chalk that up to the fact that uh that the messenger was sent off but uh he must have got way laid by some cosax or something like that and so um they never arrived. So um it was just simply a wasted court order.
So that's uh all the corrections not all the corrections. I forgot one more. The other thing we did is cosaxs when their brigades falter, they don't pay the penalty uh of an ADC uh being withdrawn from the pool and sent to shore up um divisional morale. Uh they basically you roll your ADCs uh and if you have an ADC, you can use it to uh do a roll.
there's no uh inbuilt penalty uh where you lose 18 ADC uh for a cosac brigade.
So that's all the that's all the corrections done. So with that uh we'll now continue with our game and we're starting at turn five and it's 1000 hours.
So the situation for the coalition is thus at this point the messenger has arrived from Blay to Tolli. He's told General Platov uh that he is to continue with the attack. Uh General Ptov for his part has said that this is suicidal. Uh he's quoted as saying this morning for breakfast general Barklay Dulli has given me a turd on a platter. Now he is ordering me to eat it.
The rationale from Barclay to Italia is quite simple. If the uh Prussian and Russian forces are attacking the French here, it ties these French troops down.
But more importantly, it might tempt the French to draw some of their reserves away from other battlefields and bring them up here. So that's the rationale behind it. And uh so that's why the attack has been ordered to go forward.
General Paltov has stated, "I protest this uh most strenuously, but I am a good soldier and I will follow my orders." Okay, so we'll do ADC availability and CNC tasking. We'll go for the the coalition forces first.
Um they've got all four. Uh these guy will be the red dice. These guys will be the black ADC availability.
Okay.
Okay, that's bad. They've got one cuz they got three ones there. So, they've got only one for this brigade. They've got one, two for this brigade. Uh neither side have a agitance uh brigade agitants in play.
So, there's one ADC over here and two there. And that's it, right? Uh, well, that makes it easy, I guess. A 180C over here and two. Okay. Well, one here is just a reroll for the brigade.
Um, and for the Prussians, they have two.
Um, I think they'll go with um, well, a reroll for each brigade because they want to get, uh, want to get a case on with this one and they want this one not to go hesitant.
Okay, let's do the uh, the French core orders.
Uh they've got all but the black uh for their Oh, it's a one. So you can reroll that four. Okay, he's got them all as well. Okay. Um and black will be the black dice will be the uh brigade on the right as you look at it. And the red dice will be the Italian the uh the other brigade.
So what do we have? So the brigade on the right as you look at it um has everyone all their ADCs and the uh Marie Louise brigade on the left one that's heavy with the recruits they've got three actually the one on the right's got four there was a two in there I thought it was a three uh it's a two so it's four and three and all the uh core commanders so the four over here it's going to be skirmish order for the brigade skirmish line here and then artillery assault and reroll uh with this battery in the redout. Uh so that's three. That's all there for. And for over here uh just three rerolls, one for each brigade. R-roll here with the Germans. R-roll here with the Marie Louisees and a roll here for the Italians.
That still leaves the core orders to be issued. So we'll What are we going to do there? Right. So now we're going to roll for activation.
Okay. So, let's start with the Prussian infantry, the guard infantry.
Uh, they've passed uh the Prussian line. Uh, they've passed. They both had rerolls. That means the queson comes in here. And, uh, why did I put a case on there? There doesn't need They're already five casualties. They need to be at six or more. So, they still have their case on.
Uh, and the cavalry brigade over here with a reroll.
Two and a six there. Fine. All right.
Oh, the CSAs brigade.
Um, he's got nothing. Oh, unsurprisingly, he's gone hesitant.
All right, now we'll roll for the French. The Swiss, they have a skirmish tasking. He's bold and he's got it. Uh, the French uh light infantry brigade, they've got a artillery assault uh with a roll.
Four and a five. They've got it. Now reroll for each of these brigades. Uh the French infantry. Two and a four.
Good.
Confederation of Rine. Six and a one.
Good. Italians four and a six. Good. Everyone's obeying orders.
Both sides. I should have mentioned both sides are also using their core ADCs.
uh for the Russians and the Prussians, their core ADC was allocated to the guards infantry brigade. Uh and that was to give them skirmish.
And for the uh French, they've used a a core commander case on. So they've put another case on here. So there actually should be two uh two case on here. um one to remove uh two hits and then another one to remove uh two hits. I think that's legitimate.
Uh the rule specifically states that there's no limit to the number of caseons that can be used.
Um so there's that.
Okay. Uh so now we'll go on with rolling for core initiative.
Um, the French will be the black dice. The Russians will be the orange.
Uh, seven versus six, the coalition forces had the initiative. Uh, no charge declarations. Uh, so we'll go straight into movement. So for the Prussian movement, the only movement was these infantry brigades here. Both of their batteries are prolonged slightly forward. Um, and that's basically to get these regouts to within two inches, sorry, two feet, two inches, two foot um, of uh, their batteries. So, they won't be firing at long range. So, they'll only have the one negative modifier working against them. So, they prolonged uh, forward 2 in. That was enough to get them there. Uh, this infantry brigade has come forward. This infantry brigade has come forward. The skirmish screens have also advanced slightly. Uh so they're obviously shaping to do a infantry assault. Right, that's all that coalition movement. Now we'll do the uh French. For the French, they've uh got their case on here. Uh they're over six, so that takes them uh down to six. Uh the sec the next one, they're at six, so that'll take them down to four.
So that's their quesons used. The skirmish line's done nothing. This skirmish line here has just advanced slightly. They've had to reduce their frontage to just two bases, but at least I'll give them three dice, which is better than none. Uh there over on the French right flank, the uh the recruits, Marie Louis's, they've come up here.
They've thrown their brigade skirmish line across the stream. They just go straight across, no problem. And the Italians are forming up to to cross the bridge. Uh will they cross the bridge? I don't know, but they're forming up to do it. It's always an option. Okay. So, we'll start off with shooting here. Uh, it's got the skirmisher tasking. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. Um, they want to soften up this uh this battery here. So, they're going to fire at them understanding that the first casualty will go on these guys.
So, like I said, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 hard cover back down to six. So, six dice.
Uh, no double sixes, but they've got two two uh casualties. One hit, sorry, four hits, two casualties. So, these guys will go back up to five.
And these guys are going to lose a base.
These guys here, um, they're going to shoot at this battery here. Actually, they could choose. They're going to shoot at this battery here. Uh, so it's 1 2 3 4 five down to three.
Uh, not a single hit.
Okay, so these guys now going to shoot back. One, two, three. Uh, at these guys here.
Uh, two hits, one casualty on those guys there.
Uh, now the skirmishes on the left.
They've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
Uh, one, two.
Look at shooting. Uh, two casualties.
Uh, sorry, two hits, one casualty. So, that'll take a base off. That was a pretty abysmal effort from the French skirmish line.
Now we go to artillery fire. These batteries are prolonged. So it's going to be a single CD and they're going to fire at this battery here. As we look at it, it'll be uh black on the left.
So that's one hit and no hit. So they're back up to six casualties.
Um but lucky they use those case cuz they can be completely out of ammunition. Oh, they would have been they would have been dispersed by now. So, now it's the French artillery uh and they'll be returning fire with this battery here.
They have to shoot at the battery that that hit them. So, um it's just uh just an inferior shot. No pluses, no minuses.
Eight. So, that's going to be one hit on that battery on the left. Uh, we'll get this battery to fire. Now, I'll put canister into these guys.
So, the red dice will be the battery.
The black dice will be the CDs. So, it's inferior, but it's an eight.
Uh, so that's going to be one plus another one is two. So, that's a that's a complete base off. We'll take it from there. Now, this brigade's batteries are right. Start with this battery here.
He's going to fire at uh this battery up here.
So, it's just a standard inferior shot.
Uh eight. So, that's another hit. So, they're up to six. And then the other battery is also going to fire at them.
Uh with artillery assault, the black dice are the CDs.
So, seven is another one. And then the four is another one. So, that's one, two, three all up. Uh, so that will take that battery up to eight casualties.
Oh, just forgot one Russian battery.
This guy is going to fire across there.
It's only a single CD, but if he gets a hit on him, that'll take that means that fire has that was on this battery over on my right has to come onto this one here. But regardless, so it's a single CD and he's missed, right? There's no volley fire and so that ends turn five.
Core commander orders coalition.
Uh they have just got the black and the white because you cannot reroll twos.
And now the French orders uh uh they've just got the black, white, and blue. Okay. Prussian ADC availability. The black are the guys on the right.
Okay. So, two here. And now we'll roll for the French divisions.
Black is on the right as we look at them.
Right. Oh jeez, the worm has turned. Um, there's three for these guys on the left. On the right, they've only got one.
So, they're going to use uh their chief of staff because uh they're going to need more than that. So, they'll get two back straight away. They'll roll the four that they've missed.
Okay. Uh they got another three. So, they're going to pick up another two.
So, that'll give them a grand total of uh six.
Six and three.
Okay. So, for their um six ADCs here, they're going to go with uh in this brigade, they're going to go skirmisher with a roll.
And they've got it. Six and one. And over here they're going to go artillery assault. Artillery assault.
So that's four. And the plus the one over there is five. And then the final six is a roll.
And that was successful. So now that just leaves uh the the other division, >> one reroll each. So this brigade here, the Ger the Confederation of Ryan, three and two successful. This brigade here, five and two successful. and the Italians 5 and one successful. So that's no hesitant brigades. Everybody's obeying orders for the French. Let's have a look at the Prussians. Now the Prussian brigades, this one here is just uh skirmisher um with uh with a roll.
Six and two. They're good. And this one is forwards with a rroll.
Four and six. They're good. That's all good.
>> For the uh cavalry division, they've got two ADCs. They're going to give one to the CSAs and one to the regulars. Uh CSAs with a roll, they're good. And the light car brigade with the roll, they're good. 51. Okay. So, there's no one that's hesitant. So, it's we're going to be rolling two dice each. French will be the red dice. The coalition will be the white.
Uh 10 plays six again. The coalition had the initiative charge declarations.
Well, they've got a forwards. Um but I don't think they're going to they're going to reach. Um it was never intended to reach. Um they haven't got infantry assault either. They really just want to get they just want to get up so that next turn they can launch their charge. So no charge declarations at this stage and there's none for the French. So we will go straight into uh just normal movement and we will start with the Austria uh the um the uh coalition obviously do the see what the forward movement bonus is for this Prussian brigade here. So they're in column so it's 9 in they get six straight away so that's 15 plus another 9 is 24 in.
So we'll get that movement done. So, coalition movement. These guys moved up 9 in. Uh, the queson removed four uh two casualties off this battery. They've gone down uh from uh I went from eight down to they should be at six. Why don't they move that to four? I don't know. Uh they were eight C.
Yeah, I'll check that. But anyway, the case was used there and that's been successful. They've gone their full uh full move to this point here. Um obviously they're going to try to punch through here. Uh and then next turn they'll go they're going to try and punch through here. So assaulting simultaneously with all their um all their uh infantry uh in one big push. Um so uh there was no movement by the coalition cavalry. So now what we'll go on with is the movement by the French.
Okay. So French movement. Let's look at this Swiss brigade. Basically, they've done an emergency artillery withdrawal and brought the battery out of the redout. It's back here with six casualties on it. Uh the battalion that was behind here has moved into the redout. Uh another battalion has moved up behind them and the other one is angled out this way. So, they're basically uh that's it for this brigade.
For this brigade here, the French brigade. Um they brought their skirmish line in. and they brought a line up. Um, and that's that's it. That's all they've really done there. Um, so now we go across to the uh second division. As for this division, alls they've done is these two battalions here have formed line along the edge of the stream and the brigade skirmish line um shuffled across to their left a bit. So that's all the movement done. Uh so now we go into shooting. We'll start with skirmishes and the Prussians will fire first. Okay. So, these guys here are going to fire it then. So, it's uh seven dice all up.
Uh they got one, two, two casualties. That's pretty good shooting. These guys here, uh they will shoot at the troops in the redout.
Um actually, they'll shoot at the battery cuz maybe they'll get uh No.
Well, it doesn't really make any difference. It's whatever way it's going to be. It's just going to be uh 1 2 3 4 uh down to two.
They'll shoot at the battery.
Uh one hit, no casualties. Uh so now the French skirmishes will shoot back. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9.
See if they can do better than they did last time. Well, they've got a double six, so that is going to be one hit again. Absolutely atrocious firing. But at least this time they inflict a uh a discipline test on them.
Um veteran. And so they they love it. Uh these skirmishes are [ __ ] They must have damp powder or something. Okay.
Artillery fire.
>> Okay. So this battery here is going to fire inferior at these guys because of the they're within two foot, but it's in a doubt. These guys here, they're worn.
Uh so it'll be um inferior because of the they're worn and inferior because of the the doubt. So it'll be just one CD from him and two dice inferior from him.
So it's pretty obvious the white dice is the inferior one. Sorry, the they're not the inferior one. They're the standard one. So, it's seven, which is one hit, and it's four, which is another. So, two hits on these guys. That's pretty good shooting. They're very happy.
>> So, what I've done is you will have noticed I've moved these guys back slightly because they would not have using their forward task, they would not have brought themselves up to canister range just so they can get shot with canister twice. What they've done is they've moved up short of canister range, they're redressing their lines for the charge uh before they go forward. So, they're outside of 12 in uh and that's that. Uh there is one shot from the Russian uh horse artillery battery which is over here. They're going to take a single CD shot at this battery here.
One they've uh they've just done a casualty on themselves. Right. Uh so the next thing that happens is the batteries fire. So this battery here is going to fire at them. So, it's just two normal CDs.
Uh, and uh, one because they're firing at a column at effective range. And then what I'll do is I'll get these guys to fire at these guys here and this guy to fire at this guy here because it's centered to center and which is whichever is closest is the one uh, they should fire at. Mind you, they can choose.
So, I'll probably put it all on these guys there.
Okay, so this battery first shooting at them with the bounce through onto the guys behind them. The white dice is the battery. The blue is the bounce through.
The green is for shooting at a column.
Okay, 10 plus a hit there. Uh, no bounce through. So 10 is going to be uh ouchie.
That's going to be a discipline test.
So, artillery fire 10 did not move.
Standard battery, that's going to be three. Uh, so that's four casualties on those chaps.
And a discipline test. I might as well do that now.
Four. Okay. So, they've gone unformed.
It's not starting off well for these chaps. Okay. Now, moving right along. This battery here is shooting at these guys.
Um, exactly the same as before. Um, the, uh, white dice is the battery firing. The red dice are going to be the assault fire. Uh, and green for the column. Blue is for the bounce through.
Okay. Three. They've just done a hit on themselves, but they do get one, two hits here, and they've got a bounce through on the guys behind them.
So, it's uh three hits, a self-inflicted wound, and a bounce through hit on the guys to the rear. Gang up. Going to gang up on that guy there. Exactly the same as before.
Okay. Nine.
Wow. We I wish Okay. Uh a bounce through hit again. Nothing for the column. One, two, and nine is going to be two in a discipline test. So that's one, two, three, four.
Uh so they'll go up to seven now.
Uh and they'll have to do a discipline test.
Uh seven, they are worn.
Uh so they will go unformed because they're testing is just just line.
So that there's no volleys. That ends turn six I believe. Um all that artillery fire inflicted 650 casualties in here. 650 casualties.
200 casualties here, 350 casualties here, and 100 casualties in bounce through. And they're not all obviously KIA, but it's that's pretty that's pretty emotional, right, let's move on to turn seven. Roll for core orders.
We'll start with the French first and they have everything.
We're rolling for the coalition core orders.
Uh, that's a one.
They can reroll a one because but they've got a one again. So, they've got everything but the black and the French have got everything to choose from. Uh, now we're going to roll for uh divisional ADCs.
So, the French on the left flank will be the black dice. The French on the right flank around the village will be the or uh the orange dice.
Uh, one, two, three, four, five because I got a six there. double six there and only one for only one for the uh division on the right. Now we'll do the Prussians and the Russians. The Prussian will be the black dice. The Russian cavalry division will be the orange dice. Got to roll one more orange.
So they've got three and a cavary division again has got four. We're just concentrating on the French left flank at the moment. Um the five ADC's here uh and the core order. The core order is going to be release brigade. So the heavy cavary brigade is going to come on and support this division. Uh the five ADCs in this uh division. Uh we've got glory. So the bold chap is going to reinforce uh here because post of honor is being issued over there. So I suspect this is the target.
Um, so he's going to go glory uh with this brigade and attach to this battalion here. Um, the other four that are left, artillery assault and artillery assault uh without any uh any roll uh for the Prussians, uh they've gone uh two ADCs over here with post of honor and they've gone with one ADC with infantry assault. So they're going to launch this whole uh uh brigade here and over here they're using glory with this battalion here and they've their core order they're using um core ADC. Uh so um that's going to give them a uh looking at the French right flank the coalition left. The French they've got ADC. They're simply giving a roll to the Italians and the 48C's for the cavalry division. Uh they're giving a roll to their cosaxs. They're giving a roll to their uh light cavary brigade here. And they're using the other two ADCs for um uh forwards uh and reserves. Actually going to take the roll from the cosax and give the rroll to the forwards and reserve uh for the cavary brigade that's coming on. So there'll be three for that that brigade.
Cosax will not get a re.
>> Okay. So this division here uh release brigade from the core. That's happening.
That's core order. Uh here artillery assault without a safety net. Let's see how that goes. Three. He passes. And this guy here, he's bald. He's got glory. Four or five. So he passes. Now let's do the Prussians. Well, infantry assault uh and uh post of honor automatically passes this guy here. He's got glory and a roll and he's passed. So, let's have a look at the uh right the French right flank. So, uh the brigade of recruits, they've passed.
Brigade of Germans, they've gone hesitant. and the Italian brigade with a reroll. Oh, and they've got heard. So, the French are going to be rolling three die because they have two heent brigades in the one division. Uh, whilst we're here, might as well do the uh Russian cosacs.
So, the cossacs, of course, they've gone hesitant.
Okay. So, this light cavar brigade with a rroll.
They're good. And the the reserve brigade that's coming on with forwards and a roll.
They're good. All right. So, only the cosacks are hesitant for the coalition.
>> Okay. So, the French are the white coalition are the green.
They take the two lower than well double again. Uh at turn seven, the coalition had the initiative. They had got a reroll as well because they got posted on us. So that was kind of a foregone conclusion really.
So now we're up to charge declarations and it's all going off. Um so these guys here, this will be the lead battalion.
They're going to charge the redout. Uh and obviously this battalion here is charging. Uh they're going to charge this battery here because it's not behind a red doubt. Uh so they're feeling brave. So we're going to start here. So we'll do this charge first.
They're going to need their forwards bonus to get into contact. So they'll use that uh forward 8 in plus 9 plus uh they get an extra three for infantry assault. So yes uh not a problem.
They're going to reach. So we'll move to the 3-in mark and we'll do shooties.
They move to there. Defender reacts. He fires with his five dice. And the skirmishers will also be shooting.
So a redout gets five dice and they get another one for the column.
So that's not bad shooting. Uh that's going to be one, two, three, four.
Uh four hits, which is two casualties.
Skirmishes fire at the battalion to the right. So that's seven dice.
And they continue to fire poorly. They only get again only one hit on those guys. Um mind you, these skirmishers are aring within arc and range. So it's going to go on these guys.
So it's uh two hits on them now.
Right. Um Oh jeez. I don't know. How does that work? Because No, it'll it'll be on these guys here because they're they're in arc and range, but the majority of the target is in front of them. I I think No, no. The first hit has to go on the skirmishes. So, it would have to be on them cuz Yeah. All right. I guess as as they're coming through, right? Anyway, that's that. So, let's go on with the charge resolution. Okay, the guys in the redout, they're going to have uh well, actually, let's go through this. Let's let's be methodical, shall we? Okay, so it's just a normal charge procedure. Um, one reroll, two reroll, three rerolls, plus they've got a their veteran versus line, so four- rolls, they'll be the red dice. The French with one roll will be white.
So, the French have rolled a six and a one.
Now, the Prussians.
Oh, great. Double one.
Okay. So, the French will sit on that.
So, the first reroll for the Prussians.
Uh, second reroll for the Prussians.
The third reroll for the Prussians.
The fourth reroll for the Prussians.
Six versus seven. Well, obviously the French will reroll their one. Oh, okay. They they they've given him an absolute ass kicking kicking ass.
Kicking ass.
All right. So, that's a broken result.
That's like the worst that could possibly happen. They retreat. They take four CDs and each of the supports take one. So, the four CDs first, well, they got off lightly. They only took one hit.
So, they take they're up to three.
Um they're going to be losing their guard status. Uh, the unit on the left, nothing. The unit on the right, nothing. The unit in the rear with the gear, nothing.
So, they they basically just ran up, got shot at, and then fled away. Now, we have to do the risk. The general roll.
If he rolls a one, he is toast.
Four. Okay. So the divisional commander survives, right, the next charge along.
So that's this charge here uh with glory.
It's truth. I just uh they don't get the charge. He's not going to reach. What the hell was I was I thinking. Uh probably best that he doesn't go forward anyway. Truth be told, he can't reach. So that's not a charge. But he has got glory. Uh because at least he's going to get he gets shot at. He's going to be doing a discipline test one one uh here. Test one one level higher. Okay, that's all the charges done. Now we go across the movement. I think what I'll do cuz that's just stupid. I I don't know what I was thinking there when I gave them glory. I'm going to change that to skirmish. Uh because what we'll do is they'll throw their brigade skirmish. They'll use the fuse leave battalion to reinforce the brigade skirmish line and that'll take it up to a maximum size skirmish line. That that makes far more sense than just going with glory for a charge that just obviously couldn't reach because they're just too far back. Right, let's movement. Uh this battalion here will reinforce the brigade skirmish line.
They're a standard battalion, so that's uh three bases and they're light infantry fusely. So that's four. So I've had four skirmish bases to them and that that's the skirmish tasking used up.
So what we'll do is they'll move first to there. Then we'll reinforce the skirmish line.
And now what I'll do is I'll continue with the rest of the Prussian movement.
Then we'll come back and do a >> on table movement or uh basically is this cabri gauge just simply move forward. These guys uh reordered from uh their uh being disordered by the fire.
That's it. Um now we'll do the French movement and then off table movement.
French these two columns have simply moved. Uh one in this one support behind this one. This one in behind this battery here. The line advanced. So they were in musketry range of these guys and they've come up and supported them. The brigade skirmish line is at the absolute maximum distance from their parent unit.
uh from the second division uh and they've come across to there and the battalions at the rear of form square because of this threat from this uh light cavalry brigade that's come up uh on their left uh >> and as you can see here uh this brigade skirmish screen as I mentioned they've come to their maximum extremity of reach from their parent brigade uh and nothing else over here has moved mainly because they're hesitant and there's nothing else to be gained by by moving forward. So that's where they're at. Um that's all the on table movements. Now that the off table movement now will roll for the bonus for the oncoming cavalry brigade that's here. They've got a forwards bonus. So it's whoa 12. They're hooting along. So it's 12 plus they'll be in column.
That's 18 plus 6. So 18 and 18 is 36 in.
Right. 36 in brings them to this point here. Um, and it's almost at 6 in, but not quite. So, these guys don't have to flee away from these chaps just yet.
But, uh, they're getting menacingly close. So, that's all the movement done.
So, now we go on to shooting. The reserve brigade does not come on till the next turn for the Prussians. So, uh, the way it works, I got confirmed from the authors of the rules is that the, uh, if a core commander releases a reserve brigade, it's the following turn that the brigade it just comes on. Uh, and so obviously it won't be this turn, right? Skirmish fire. We're going to start with these guys here. One, two, three, four, five. Uh, shooting at those guys there.
Three hits, one casualty. That is a base off the Swiss.
Okay, so now this brigade skirmish line, they're going to shoot at the line that has come forward.
So this is eight dice.
Uh one, two, three, four. That's two hits on that battalion. They didn't have the skirmish tasking. Um so the double six doesn't doesn't really do anything to them. Uh because the skirmish tasking was for them to get out into the line, not actually the shooting part of it.
And now we have these French skirmishes hit here shooting at them. Grand total of four dice.
Well, they've got uh three hits, which is going to be one casualty on the Prussian brigade skirmish mine. Now we'll have artillery fire cuz all the skirmishing's done. These two batteries here, this one's firing a single CD.
This one's firing inferior. and they'll have a crack at the troops in the redout. Obviously, the white dice is the uh individual uh just single CD.
Uh wow, that's pretty good shooting. Uh two on the infury is going to be two casualties and that's and a discipline test and another one from the other battery. So, I think that's three hits in a discipline test. currently up to five casualties and they've got to they've got to do a decimal test now.
That's a five and oh 11. Oh, almost recovered a casualty. That's a solid effort. There you go. H we can do this all day. Okay, French artillery. Okay, so we've got this battery, this battery, and this battery. These are doing artillery assault. This one is just a straight up shot. Okay, so this battery here is choosing to shoot through the skirmish line with round shot into uh this battalion actually. No, this one. They'll shoot at this one here. It's in arc and they'll get bounced through onto that one. So, it's just uh uh two dice uh just a standard shot. They'll get uh a green die for uh a column at effective range and the blue will be the bounce through.
So that's an ouchie. Uh no bounce through, but that is going to be three, four, and a discipline test. That will take them up to eight.
Wow.
So they'll do their discipline test. Uh they will be testing um as reserveists because they're warned now or sorry recruits.
Uh and they've passed. That's all right.
Now this battery here, they're going to shoot through the skirmish line at these guys here. So it's going to be uh two dice for the battery, two dice for the assault fire, one dice for the column, and one dice for the bounce through.
Oh, 11 again. These French gunners are on fire.
Um, so that's going to be three, four, that that will destroy that unit. Five, and a bounce through hit on them. So that will falter the brigade. And now this battery here, same as before.
They're shooting into them. Uh but this time it'll be uh white dice. Uh they won't get a bounce through. So it's just the white dice is the battery firing.
The red dice are the CDs.
Okay. That's a that's a Oh jeez. Uh eight is one. So, uh, one, two, three, four, and that takes them up. They're also at 12. So, they've been blown away as well. Uh, that will disperse the brigade.
Or will it?
No, it's it's 50% of the brigadees gone.
Uh, it's got to be over 50 before the whole brigade disperses. So, that's another battalion gone. these Polish horse artillery attached to the Italian brigade. Uh they can only fire effective range, but that's okay. They are at effective range. So, they get two CDs.
It's inferior because they're firing across the stream, but they do get uh they're a column, so they get one dice for that, which will be the green dice.
And they're going to bounce through into these guys here.
Oh jeez. One one. All right. So, they've gone low on ammo. They've then they've hurt themselves and Oh, jeez. just like barrels bursting and uh yes, there's screaming and moaning and it's so emotional. Here we now go to infantry firing. Uh and there's no volleys from the Prussians. We have a volley. They have from one of the French battalions in line over in the uh the center of the battle.
>> Infantry volley from the French. So it's an inferior volley cuz they're shooting at the skirmishes.
Oh wow. Six and five is 11. That's a discipline test. Did they pass the discipline test? Five, they go unformed.
All right, so this is where we're at.
The end of turn 7, start of turn eight. It's now 11:30 in the morning. Um, the Prussians have a brigade here that's virtually destroyed. Even if it rallies, it's a single battalion. So, they've got that. Um, which means they're reduced to that infantry brigade there. They could bring on another infantry brigade, brigade of reser. So there's that going for them. Um uh and they've got this guard heavy cavary threatening, but these guys are in square and you can't charge uh charge or doubts except from behind. So they have to clear these squares away to get in. Um they try to go across this way.
They're going across disordering the train. They can charge across the river, but it is well it's a stream. Well, it's the river path A, but it's basically a stream. So they could come across here and that is disordering terrain but they are guard cavry and these guys are recruits in line. So that's an that's a possibility. So odds are that's that's probably a better chance. So maybe they'll do that. Um but there's also the uh French reserve cavalry coming on. So anyway um there's no hand to hand combat to resolve. We've done all the firing.
So now we're going to move on to turn eight.
Let's start with core orders. Core orders for the French.
Um, they've got all but the red. They can't reroll the two.
And then core orders for the coalition.
Uh, they've got them all. Okay.
Next we're going to roll for is ADC availability.
We'll do the French first. The black are on this side and the red are here.
Let's see what they've got.
Uh they've got four and two. So, four for these guys and two for those guys.
So, four here, two here.
Now we're going to roll for the coalition. The Prussians will be the black and the cavalary division will be the red.
Uh they've got three for the Prussians and they've got three for the cavalry division. They've got a faltering brigade, so they're going to have to use one straight away to shore up divisional morale, which will leave them with essentially two to use. Okay, let's get on with it. Let's get it on. Start off with the French at first. Okay, over here. Uh, this guy has got um artillery assault. Uh, because he's bold, he's got a reroll.
Six and six. Okay, he's good. Um, this Oh jeez, steady on this guy here, artillery assault, just without a roll.
Six. He's good. U, so that's them done.
So for this division, artillery assault with the Italians, that's two ADCs. Um, that's all they've got and then everyone else can plead them please themselves there. So the Italians six, they've passed these guys here. Four, they've passed and the Confederation of the Rine five, they've passed. Everyone's passing. Everyone's happy. Okay, so for the cavalry, we've got Post of Honor with the Heb Brigade. So that costs two.
That leaves one, which is just a uh a reroll for the light cavalry brigade, and they've passed. No worries at all.
Um over here, they've got um a reroll.
They've used the core ADC uh here. So, they uh they had three, they lost one. They're giving the core ADC to give these guys a reroll. Nothing for the guards and a reserve and forward for a reserve infantry brigade coming on. So, we'll do the guards first.
They're fine. Uh forwards uh with reserves.
They're fine. And now the faltering brigade.
Okay. Uh they've got to roll cuz that's a subay four. They've rallied. Uh that just leaves the cosaxs from the cavalry brigade and they're fine as well. So there are no hesitant. Oh, actually there there's one brigade. They rallied to head.
>> Uh both sides are just rolling two dice.
French or white coalition green.
Six play. Yay. The French have finally got the they got the initiative. So the French have the initiative and nine plays six.
Right. charge declarations. Well, the French have none, but the Russians have have one and it will be the guard heavy cavalry brigade. Okay, so they got a movement rate at 18, but post of honor gives them a forwards and they'll need it to get across that. They'll go full speed. They'll take the casualty for crossing uh disordering terrain.
Uh so and how far 3 in it will they will have to go into the the the stream. Um so they'll have to take well first of all let's see the let's get the the movement bonus sorted out how how how much extra move they got was at least six. So we don't even need to roll but um there it is.
Um, okay. So, they're going to take the forwards tasking and off they go. Okay.
So, their charge gets them to there. Uh, defender reacts. We'll start with shooting. They'll shoot and then they'll test to see if they form square. So, here we've got artillery assault. So, the white dice will be the battery shooting. The red dice will be the the canister. The green dice will be the artillery assault. Uh, the blue dice will be the bounce through. Black dice will be because they're shooting out a column.
Oh, 12. That's a destiny roll. Uh, that one's cocked.
Uh, hit hit and miss. So, we're going to have a 12 and that grand total of six casualties plus a destiny uh destiny test a discipline test. So, we'll do the discipline test first. They're uh they're elite, so they'll go down to veteran uh 11. They nearly recovered a casualty.
They don't care. Um now the destiny roll seven7 on the destiny table. carry recover one casualty and the closest enemy unit s an extra two CDs. So they're back to one and then there will be two CDs on the closest well I guess it it makes sense to go through the guys behind uh one one casualty on them right bit anticlimactic there. Now I guess we have to roll to see if they form a square or not.
Um I think I have to test. I don't think I get a choice in the matter.
Okay, that's cocked.
Seven. They'll go unformed.
Um I'll just check unformed. We're done.
Eight to seven unformed.
Right. Okay. So, to resolve this charge.
Okay. So, these guys would normally be throwing two dice, but they're unformed.
So, they'll throw three and take the lower one. These guys uh got three casualties than each other. They're up to seven uh seven casualties uh and unformed uh because of the ter Oh, yes. the the the Path A River is unforming terrain.
So, they're rolling four and taking the lower two. They're rolling three, taking the lower two. Now, rerolls. These guys here, um they could stand and uh fire, but it'd be abysmal.
Uh but if they they can't offer a roll um because if they shoot, that's not going to do much. If they stay as they are, well, recruit infantry in line can't give a reroll. So, that's not a possible that's not possible. So, the best thing they can do is form square. Um, which they will, and they'll get a roll from the column to their rear. The battery can't provide a roll. All they can do is provide fire support, and it did plenty of that. Uh, these guys will get a roll from these guys. They'll get a roll from these guys. Um, and I think that's it.
So, I'll get these guys into square and then we'll resolve the the ch. So, to be sure, we'll do their their rolls first.
Um, they're rolling the white. So, it's three dice and they take the lower two.
Um, a two and a four and a four. Okay.
So, they got a two and a four.
And these guys here are going to be rolling four dice.
And they're going to take the lower two.
Uh, okay. 1 3 4. Okay.
Right. Rolls. Well, they're happy to sit where they are. Take a roll for these guys.
And that's gone to a two.
Uh, they'll roll it again.
Um, this time I'll take the rroll for the guys at the rear.
Uh, and they've got a one.
Uh, okay. I'll just check if there's any other rrolls. Okay. So, they've got no other rerolls. They've only got this one and this one because um it's formed cavalry against infantry online. Well, they're not formed. They're unformed by the the stream. Um, so they don't get that. And then it's formed veteran or grenadier versus lower quality, not elite. So they don't get that. Um, so they're down at this point, uh, four to six. Um, so they've lost by two. Uh, they can still close the combat. So with that said, the French are going to reroll their two. Oh, okay. It's gone up to six, right? So it's 10 to four. That's a difference of six. Negative six. Sorry.
Attacker broken defender stands.
Okay. So he'll take four CDs and retreat. One CD withdraw. One CD and withdraw. So the four four CDs.
It takes two hits. So he's up to nine casualties now.
Um, a CD for these guys here. No. And a CD for these guys here. Yes. Okay. So, they'll take one also. And then they'll retreat and withdraw. So, let's take them back. 24 in.
>> Way back there now. Um, let's roll for the risk to general. If they roll a one, he's taking a tumble. Too close. So, that's all the charges done. So now what we'll do is we'll go on with movement.
Uh we'll do the French on table, then the coalition on table, and then off table.
>> The only movement for the uh French was the battalion that was in here is retired to the second line. They're back here with marked with a retreat marker.
And the battalion here, the second battalion has moved in. Actually, I think it's the red I think is the the the third battalion have moved in to the redout. uh because these guys were got five casualties and it would take much more of them to be born. So they've done that. That's all the French movement. Um that's happening on table. Nothing going on with this division here. Uh it's been traumatic enough. Uh so that's that's it. We're done with the French. Let's go look at the coalition.
>> The coalition the light brigade has come up to cover the flank of the heavies. Uh the cosacs have stepped back also uh just to provide some mole support for the heavies. Uh this brigade or what's left of it is stepped back except for the brigade skirmish line they have reordered. Um and the guard are contemplating what they should do next.
Um so that's that for them. Now it's their on offt movement which will bring on the reserve infantry with a forwards.
So offt table movement with the French.
They brought on their uh reserve heavy cavalry brigade.
So they've arrived on the field. They've come on uh in line formation. They've done their full 15-in move. And that's where they are in relation to all the other carry on that's happening. Now we'll do the uh reserve movement for the coalition forces. Okay. So this reserve infantry brigade is coming on down this road here. It's 2d6 + 6 plus they'll be in column. So it's 9 in plus their six that they get. So they're 15 plus 11. So they could go they could go forward uh 26 in if they want. Right. So they've come from here with their uh their forwards movement.
That's far enough forward at this stage.
Um and so that's all the movement. So now we'll go to shooting. So the first lot of skirmishes are going to be the garrison of the redout and obviously that Swiss and French brigade skirmish line shooting at these Prussians uh just in this area here. So these guys will be firing with the black dice and these ones for the with the orange.
I'll roll that one again cuz it's cocked. It's a Okay, but not that it helped. One hit. So nothing there. These guys, however, uh, one, two, three, four, five. Two hits. So, that's going to leave one and take a base off.
Um, now these guys will return fire. And then we'll go to these guys down here.
Okay. So, they're going to be shooting with four skirmish dice. One, two, three, four. They'll shoot at those guys there.
Uh, three, two, three. No hits, nothing there. And that just leaves this brigade skirmish line. And they're going to shoot at this line here.
So it's seven at them.
That one's cocked. These dice towers are supposed to prevent that. Um one, two, three, four, five.
Uh which is essentially essentially four. So these guys will go up to that's two casualties. So they'll go up to four hits.
Uh, next thing that we've got is artillery fire.
Um, so this gun here will fire into those guys. Now, I might not have done it, but they did they did move out of they were meant to move out of volley range of these guys. Oh, no.
Yeah, they should be back.
When I was doing the movement, it was my intention to move these guys back so that they could shoot at them 12 in, but they couldn't be shot at from them, which is 9 in back. However, that will still leave them in all pot probability in canister range.
And it is, and it is.
So, we'll now get the batteries to fire.
White is the battery firing, and the red will be the CDs.
So, it's inferior.
Uh, but they still managed to get eight, which is going to be one, two, three.
That'll take a base away from these guys.
Right. These batteries here, what are they going to shoot at?
This battery here is going to fire. It's going to ignore these guys and it's going to fire at the column at the rear.
It's over 2T away. So, it's going to be um just a inferior shot.
It's cocked. It's a five and a one six.
Okay. Nothing. But this one here is going to fire the guard cavalry, which is this one here. And he'll try to get B and he'll get bounced onto that guy there. So, it's two inferior because of the range. Uh, two red for the artillery assault and a blue bounce through. Let's see what he does.
Nine.
That's one. Two. So, that's two hits and one bounce through. So, they're currently at nine. So, they'll go up to 11. And they'll the bounce through the unit behind will take another one. So, they'll go up to two. So, that's all the coalition, sorry, all the French artillery firing. these two batteries to fire and they will fire onto the redout.
Uh it'll be a single city cuz he's worn and this one will be uh two dice because he's inferior.
Uh nothing there. And he's uh I think one I think they go low on ammo or they take a casualty. Um I'll check that in a minute. But this one here, he's rolled a nine. So infuriates nine. It's going to be one casualty.
And uh there's no volleys. So that ends uh this turn eight. And it's now, if I'm not mistaken, it's 12 midday.
Okay, it's start of turn 9. It's 12:00 p.m. and at this point a courier from the army, the coalition army commander, General Barklay Duty has arrived and has ordered that all offensive operations are to cease and the army is to commence a withdrawal. Uh this is in relation to other battles that are going on uh elsewhere along the entire leapse front.
So, at this point now, uh, Platov, uh, is going to be somewhat annoyed that he's been pushing so hard only to be told to retreat. So, we're going to wrap it up there. I think the, uh, the allies, the coalition has probably suffered somewhere in the vicinity of about, um, 2,000 casualties. I I'll work it all out. Um uh and uh the French probably somewhat well not somewhat probably a lot better.
>> Just a reminder you can see uh you'll find links to the other battles that were played as part of this water uh operation round in the description. Oh, sorry, not in the description of this video, but in the playlist for the um uh 1813 what if campaign. They'll all be in there. And then obviously if you go to uh basement 1908, Steve will have them there as also. Um and Dicey Tactics, he is fought um on one of these tables. I'm on table six. Uh Randy and Josh from Dicey Tactics. They were on table one.
So the far uh French right flank. This is obviously the far French left flank.
Uh, and in conclusion, there will be at some point in the very near future, Steve and I will probably have a bit of a chat online. Uh, I don't know if other gamers will be there. I hope so. That would be good that played on the other tables and we'll all talk about um how the the battle has played out and share our thoughts and then obviously a bit of a talk about the campaign in its wider context. So, that's it for now. We'll wrap it up there. Uh like, share, and subscribe. And if you've got comments, please put them in there. Uh and that's all for now. Yubquay.
