Urban flooding in apartment complexes can persist for extended periods due to inadequate drainage infrastructure, where sediment accumulation in drains blocks water flow and causes flooding that remains visible even after the initial rain event has passed.

Apartment residents say flooding damage remains nearly a week later as more rain approaches | WSB-TVAdded:
And because of all that wet weather, Brad was talking about, people living in Cobb County say their apartments, well, look at this, just aren't dry yet. And tonight, they're worried about any new rounds of rain. We continue our lives with the weather team 2 coverage now with channel 2's Erin Rodgers live at the Avana Cumberland Apartments on Akers Mill Road there. And Erin, you can still see the evidence of water.
>> You can, George, and let me show you the evidence. You can see the water line here still marked with the dirt. You can see how high that water came up. Also, over here, you can still see all of the mud that was left behind by that flood.
Now, it's still raining out here.
Thankfully, no issues that we can see right now.
>> Honestly, my first thought was the Chattahoochee River was coming through.
>> This is what Rob Hill and his neighbors at Avana Cumberland experienced last Saturday night.
>> Um came through the front door coming down the staircase. That water seeped through the walls into our dining room and through our living room. The wet splash and everything.
>> He showed me this video of his apartment shortly after the water resided.
>> about standing water for about 13 hours.
>> told me they had to toss these rugs because of the water damage, and let me show you why. You can still see how high that water came up.
>> that's probably about a foot and a half.
>> In fact, a neighbor sent me this video where you can see the parking lot flooded and some cars submerged.
>> When I came out, it was up to my It's up to my knees.
>> I reached out to the apartment management. They told me they understand the inconvenience the weather and resulting flooding caused to several of their residents and sent me a statement that reads in part, "We are evaluating long-term solutions. However, permanent repair work cannot begin until weather conditions improve." Neighbors tell me it's not the first time they've had flooding issues.
>> We're all on this very weird hill.
>> But nothing to the magnitude of last weekend.
And with more rain on the way this weekend, neighbors say they're concerned.
>> We all aware. Um I mean, there's been slight water in the in the history of me living here, but nothing, like I said, that came in so so crazy like that. I mean, that was That was scary.
>> So, I do want to show you what neighbors were talking about. You can see the path that the water took and how steep of that hill is. And they told me that they think it's a soil and drainage issue because you can see that all of the mud and debris is kind of congregated by those drains and they think the sediment builds up and blocks those drains when you get this flooding. Reporting live in Cobb County, I'm Erin Rogers, WSB tonight.
