The Court’s pivot toward a formalistic "colorblind" doctrine effectively guts the Voting Rights Act, prioritizing abstract legal theory over the reality of systemic disenfranchisement. This ruling marks a cynical retreat from equitable representation, leaving minority political power vulnerable to partisan manipulation.

“Supreme Court Shocks Nation: Voting Rights Act Under Fire”Added:
What's going on everybody? This is Afro ThinkTank.
So, the Republicans, all right, just got another victory, part of Project 2025, that thing that we were talking about before all those black coonarian conservatives voted for Donald Trump, supported Donald Trump, went against Kamala Harris because I guess she wasn't black enough, but I guess Trump is black enough even though he's white, all right?
So, all those FBA and uh those conservative black people and those red pills walking around calling every black person who's not a [ __ ] a democratic shield.
Yeah, their mans and thems, all right, just made it so now all five white people who are left in all these Midwestern and Western and uh Southern Confederate states, all five of these white men have more legal representation and political representation than the masses of black people and brown people that also live in those communities.
Must have been one of those things those black conservatives were supporting when, you know, they said that the Democrats, you know, the Democrats did this to us, they're the they're the party of the KKK.
Why are they saying all that? The party they promote has successfully disenfranchised us, took African American studies out of as many courses as they possibly could, especially the AP courses, right? Fired as many black people as they could. We see how the government's currently running right now, like [ __ ] right? And now they have successfully, all right, taken away voting rights and the voting power that we had in these Southern red district states that we were currently taking over because there's more of us than there are of them. You see, all five of these white folks who are allowed to gerrymander and do all manner of uh um corruption in order to maintain power in these states that have a total of 10 people, okay?
They have a total of 10 people, right? And as they start to die off, all right, they're going to continue to do these little things in order so these few and far between white folks can maintain the same political power that they once had when they were flourishing back when they had a population, okay?
So, now us black folks, we're going to have to fight all over again for all those rights that we fought for before, that we had, that we told you guys that those Republicans that you coonarian supported when they said they were going to do this, they're literally doing it, so don't act surprised, all right?
Especially you foundational black Ameri- This is the foundation you're talking about. Uh good luck with that. You see, because us Pan-Africans understand that white people right now are in an existential crisis and they don't have time to play games, all right? They're trying to maintain as much power as humanly possible and they're going to do everything they can and they don't care about your morality, they don't care about your morality or your family values or your conservative values, they don't care.
But, you know what? We black folks, we going to be all right.
We're going to be fine, all right? I'm not even worried, all right? Not worried, not worried.
We've been here before, okay? Now, keep in mind the reason why this happened is because you allowed Donald Trump to put in conservative judges. You see, those people who don't know anything about politics, you thought that if you're voting for Trump because, you know, it was a fun thing to do, it was a fad thing to do, wouldn't have any long-lasting consequences for you. But, guess what? When you put a judge who's a lifetime appointee, by the way, they get to legislate from the bench for 20, 30, 40, however long they decide they're going to stay on that job.
And you conservative black coonarian women-hating men, you black men, you helped support those white supremacists in making sure that the court remains deaf, dumb, and blind to the plight of humanity and that they continue to capitulate to white supremacy and authoritarianism as it manifests itself in these here United States. But, I'm not worried because us Pan-Africans, we're putting together a plan of economic cooperation with our brothers and sisters around the globe, therefore we'll be able to shield ourselves from some of the economic downfall that's going to happen here and we're going to be able to jump ship when this ship sinks a little further into the icy cold tundra, all right? Trust and believe.
But, anyway, let's pay attention to what it is that MAGA, black MAGA, FBA, Tariq Nasheed, this Tariq Nasheed guy, all right? Keep in mind, you like Tariq, you love policies.
You love these policies, these policies what you what you campaigned for when you said that we were fighting for democ- democracy Hey, but at least that black woman's not the president. Ha, right? At least that woman's not the president, huh? Yeah, to hell with voting rights. Hell, y'all were sitting on the couch anyway, right? Who cares about voting? You said you wanted tangibles.
Who you going to get those tangibles for? Not those dem- Oh, the Democrats, they they didn't give you reparations.
We're going to continue to hate on them.
Good luck with those Republicans.
All five of those rich white men in those states that now control and operate and run half of America via unconstitutional legislation and Supreme Court justices legislating from the bench. How about that [ __ ] huh? Who the goddamn thought? Anyway, you guys say what you think in the comment section. This is Afro ThinkTank, learn something, teach something. I'm out.
Yep.
I just came from a dramatic scene inside the [music] Supreme Court.
The justices have issued a major Voting Rights Act decision [music] that's going to affect the midterm elections and elections from here on out. It makes it harder for blacks [music] and Latinos to challenge voting maps and to say that their power has [music] been diluted in the way a voting map has been drawn.
Justices made it harder to challenge a Louisiana case in which two black [music] majority districts were drawn, but more broadly, what the court has done, what the conservative majority has done in this six [music] change the terms of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. [music] Justice Sam Alito read his statement for the majority and as he was finishing up he said, "Do not listen to what the dissenters say, it's really [music] not this bad." But, when Justice Elena Kagan spoke through the three liberals, she said, "It is bad.
This court has completed [music] a project to undercut the Voting Rights Act, an act that was paid for by people's blood." And in that reference it was to Bloody Sunday in March of 1965 [music] when civil rights marchers were beaten with whips as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge marching for the right to vote. And [music] that's how we even got the 1965 Voting Rights Act and she said that this changes everything, that not since >> [music] >> pre-Reconstruction era will minority voters have a harder time when they go to electing candidates of choice. Okay, so this is a pretty important video. Please watch till the end. The Supreme Court today did something that they have been dying to do for decades and it's devastating, particularly if you are a black or brown American. They gutted the Voting Rights Act, six to three straight down ideological lines. Before I explain what it means, I need you to hear one thing clearly. The Voting Rights Act ended Jim Crow at the ballot box. It protected the premise of fair and equal elections. That is what the conservative majority on this Supreme Court just came for. This is a truly dark day in our democracy. Now, conservatives, of course, will dress this up in legal language, they'll call it equal protection and or say they're being colorblind. Don't get pulled into the semantics debate trap. Here's what's actually happening. The GOP and the conservative majority on this court are attacking black political power as a front to seize illegitimate control over all of us. When black voters have power, we all get better health care, better schools, more accountability. When conservatives silence that, they are setting up a system where they can overrule all of us. Justice Kagan, in one of the most extraordinary acts of protest you will ever see from a Supreme Court justice, read her dissent out loud from the bench. That never happens. She called this ruling what it is, the completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act. The numbers are brutal, analysts are saying that up to 19 congressional seats could be seized by 2028. This would decimate the Congressional Black Caucus. Nearly half of majority black state legislative districts in the South could vanish. So, this is not just a policy dispute, it is a power grab and it is going to affect way more than just black and brown voters. Although, obviously, they are the ones hurt the most. Remember, step one is always sidelining black political power because when black people show up, these people lose. So, if they can sideline that, they can overrule all of us. That's how it works. That's always been the plan and they're not even pretending it's not anymore. But, I want to close with this. They have taken some tools, but they have not taken them all.
There are lawsuits already in motion, more will come. We want to donate to the groups who are suing on our behalf. We need to use the 2026 elections to elect candidates who are committed to passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act at the first possible moment. And this is really important. We need to back candidates who support actual Supreme Court reform. I'm talking about term limits, a binding code of ethics, and maybe expanding the bench. This court is fundamentally broken, but remember, broken things can be fixed.
Y'all, they are betting that we're going to get overwhelmed and give up. Don't give it to them. Grieve today, fight tomorrow. And finally, to any black or brown voter feeling devastated by today's ruling, I can't even imagine how you must feel, but I'm so [ __ ] sorry.
And I for one will not stop fighting until you get your freedom to vote back.
You deserve so much better.
They say this is about legal standards, but if you zoom out, it looks a lot like moving the goalposts again. So, let's talk about this Supreme Court decision that happened today from a perspective that does not get centered enough. As a black voter, Louisiana is about 1/3 black, but for years had only one majority black congressional district out of six. So, black voters challenged that under the Voting Rights Act saying their voting power was being diluted.
The state eventually created a second majority black district. And now, this Supreme Court says that map went too far.
So, let me translate what that feels like. When there is only one district, that is called dilution. When you try to fix it with two, now that is being called unconstitutional.
So, what exactly is the acceptable amount of representation?
Because that line keeps moving. The court says race cannot be the dominant factor in drawing these maps, even when trying to correct discrimination.
So, legally, that sounds neutral, but in reality, race has always been a factor.
It just was not benefiting black voters before.
And now, the standard to prove discrimination just got harder.
So, this is not just about Louisiana.
This is about whether the protections under the Voting Rights Act are being narrowed to the point where they barely work. Because if you cannot consider race enough to fix discrimination, but discrimination still exist, what exactly are you allowed to do?
Today's Supreme Court ruling basically makes it unconstitutional to protect black and brown voters. And of course, Florida moved quickly to redistrict its maps. The conservatives on the Supreme Court today struck down Louisiana's redistricting map that created a second majority black district. This was done in 2024 by a Republican governor and a Republican government in Louisiana. It was supposed to fix previous maps that violated the Voting Rights Act and diluted black voters. But when Louisiana created the second majority black district, white people in the state got angry. And I would call the next move by white people ironic, but they're always doing these kind of sneaky tactics. They argue that the new majority black district violates the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The 14th Amendment, which was enacted after the Civil War to make sure that those who were enslaved were given full citizenship. And Section 1 has been used frequently to stop any kind of racial discrimination. First, to those who were formerly enslaved and then to other people of color. So, the Supreme Court ruled that this map, which is supposed to be in compliance with the Voting Rights Act, is unconstitutional because it creates a district based on race. And Florida, being Florida, moved very quickly to break up black and Latino districts in the state. And by doing this, have created four more Republican seats in the US House. This ruling by the Supreme Court may lead other Republican-led states to break up minority-led districts to dilute their power. This is what white supremacists do. They use the topic of race when it's convenient for them. We don't see color in this country. So, those districts that you created that are majority black or majority Latino, they shouldn't exist. So, let's put those black and Latino voters next to, I don't know what color they would be, but people who don't vote like them. They know what they're doing to black and Latino voters by diluting their power, but they're being sneaky about it. Conservatives on the court have also made it harder to sue states who dilute black and brown voters. Essentially, you would need to find an email that says, "Yeah, I carved up the Hispanic neighborhood." That is not how Republicans talk. Share this because not a lot of people are seeing how the Supreme Court's decision today is a white supremacist move to stay in power. This is still very much a developing story, so I'll bring you information as it comes in. And remember to follow for more. The Supreme Court just disenfranchised black voters in Louisiana and gave Southern states their blessing to redraw their maps to disenfranchise black voters. Let's get into it. So, this morning, the Supreme Court made a decision that could change how voting works in this country. The court ruled against a Louisiana voting map that essentially created a second black majority congressional district.
Now, understand that voting rights in the Black Belt South and surrounding regions are already weak and constantly being attacked, y'all, constantly. This ruling just made things a whole lot worse. It was a 6-3 ruling on ideological lines, and the conservative justices argued that Louisiana's map relied too much on race when drawing district lines and violated the Constitution. But the three dissenting liberal justices strongly disagreed.
Justice Elena Kagan warned that the decision could have grave consequences and make it much harder to protect the voting power of black Americans. And while this ruling does not completely eliminate the Voting Rights Act, it essentially turns Section 2, an important part, into a mouth with no teeth, unable to effectively bite back against discrimination. And just to give y'all a little bit of history, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed during the Civil Rights Movement after years of discrimination against black voters, especially in the South. It was meant to make sure people, no matter their race, had a fair chance to vote and be represented. And as a result, this led to an increase in the number of black elected officials and gave black people a stronger voice. And today, Section 2, one of the most important parts, came under attack. Section 2 was designed to stop voting rules or voting maps that could weaken the power of minority voters. And before the Supreme Court ruling, courts could step in if a map had unfair results, even if lawmakers didn't openly admit that they were being discriminatory. Now, the Supreme Court says there must be strong proof that the discrimination was intentional. So, basically, Southern states can redraw maps that disenfranchise black voters and give a sob story saying, "We pinky promise that we were not being racist." And then that's it. The ruling will make it harder to challenge unfair and discriminatory maps and would allow states to draw districts that disenfranchise minority voters. So, just understand that this decision doesn't erase the Voting Rights Act completely, but it does weaken one of its strongest protections and will likely set off a cascade of redistricting efforts in the South that will weaken the voice of black voters. Now, regardless about how you feel about voting or the two-party system, understand that voting is a fundamental right that should not be infringed upon.
