WATCH OUR OTHER ANIME RECAPS! The premiere kicks off on the very first day of the new school year as Class 2-2 meets their brand-new homeroom and English teacher, Hiyori Hiwamura. Fresh out of college and already overwhelmed, she somehow manages to make the worst first impression imaginable. She stumbles into the classroom breathing heavily, speaking in a creepy whisper, and even ends up with mysterious red stains on her face, making her look straight out of a horror movie.
To make things worse, she carries around a notebook covered in frantic sticky notes, causing the students to nickname her “Kowakowa Sensei” — the scary teacher rumored to curse anyone who annoys her. Naturally, the entire class is terrified of her.
But the truth is completely different. Akihito Abikura, a student who only wants a peaceful and ordinary high school life, accidentally discovers Hiwamura-sensei’s secret after school. Walking into an empty classroom, he catches her enthusiastically practicing a lesson… in front of a lineup of stuffed animals. That’s when he realizes the “scary teacher” is actually just painfully shy, socially anxious, and unbelievably clumsy.
The red stains from earlier? Just injuries and nosebleeds caused by her own bad luck. Her creepy voice? She’s so nervous she can barely speak properly. And whenever she gets overwhelmed, she panics so badly she starts hyperventilating. In one especially awkward moment, she loosens her shirt just to breathe easier and accidentally falls right on top of Abikura, throwing him into a classic anime fanservice situation. Even with all her issues, Abikura notices how hard Hiwamura-sensei is trying to become a good teacher. Instead of laughing at her, he starts helping her deal with the class’s misunderstanding and decides to support her however he can.
Since nobody else wants to get close to the “cursed” teacher, he volunteers to become the class representative and acts as her shield from the rest of the students.
The next scenes fully lean into the chaotic comedy. Hiwamura-sensei turns out to be a magnet for embarrassing accidents. While working together, her clothes get caught on a desk, nearly causing another disaster. Then Abikura uncovers an even more humiliating secret: after oversleeping and rushing to school in a panic, she forgot to wear underwear entirely and showed up in ripped tights with nothing underneath.
Abikura realizes his once-normal high school life is officially over. Between protecting his timid “Yowayowa Sensei” and keeping all of her embarrassing secrets hidden, his days are about to become far more chaotic than he ever expected. The next episode is split into two major parts, while also introducing some important supporting characters who make Abikura’s already chaotic life even messier. The first half focuses on the school’s physical fitness test during PE class. Hoping to motivate the students, the teachers invite Hiwamura-sensei to join in as a special guest. Unfortunately, the plan completely falls apart almost immediately. Instead of inspiring the class, she ends up setting one hilariously terrible record after another. Every activity reveals a new level of weakness, leaving the students stunned at just how fragile their teacher actually is.
For the standing long jump, she gets paired with Mizuki Mukubayashi, one of Abikura’s classmates.
Mizuki is basically Hiwamura-sensei’s complete opposite — a confident, energetic gyaru with ridiculous athletic ability and enough strength to dominate every event effortlessly.
Watching the two stand side by side creates an instant visual gag: one is overflowing with power, while the other looks like she might collapse from simply stretching.
Of course, things spiral out of control the moment Hiwamura-sensei tries to participate seriously.
Her terrible coordination leads to a chain of awkward accidents and embarrassing situations, most of which put Abikura in full panic mode as he desperately tries to protect her dignity and keep things from getting even worse. Mizuki finds out the truth. She walks in on them fixing a worn-out plushie. Because of the teacher's naturally intense, intimidating facial expressions, Mizuki initially misinterprets the scene as a creepy sacrificial ritual and genuinely panics that Hiwamura-sensei is plotting to take over the world.
To clear up the massive misunderstanding, Hiwamura-sensei tries to approach Mizuki to explain but immediately trips. She falls straight into Abikura and Mizuki, causing a highly chaotic, tangled accident. After the dust settles from the crash, Mizuki realizes firsthand that her teacher isn't terrifying or malicious at all—she is just incredibly frail, soft-hearted, and completely uncoordinated.
Once Mizuki learns the secret, her attitude flips. She instantly decides to help protect Hiwamura-sensei and clear her reputation, though her first attempts to "help" (like aggressively shouting to make the teacher speak louder and accidentally ripping her clothes due to her own intense gal strength) just cause a whole new set of problems.
The second half shifts away from school and introduces Abikura’s older sister, Akemi Abikura, a woman with an aggressively caring personality. She absolutely loves doting on her younger brother and constantly smothers him with affection, much to his frustration.
Abikura is already exhausted trying to survive school life with Hiwamura-sensei, so dealing with his overprotective sister at home only adds to his stress.
But everything changes once Akemi meets Hiwamura-sensei.
The moment she sees how clumsy, fragile, and genuinely helpless the young teacher is, her caretaker instincts go into overdrive. Almost instantly, Akemi redirects all of her pampering energy away from Abikura and onto Hiwamura-sensei instead.
Rather than worrying about her brother, she becomes completely obsessed with taking care of the timid teacher, creating an entirely new source of chaos for Abikura to deal with.
By the end of the episode, it’s clear that Hiwamura-sensei keeps attracting people who feel the need to protect her — even if her constant accidents and misunderstandings make everything around her ten times more complicated.
