Uh stretching after a proctocolectomy It's been 1 year 3 months since I got my proctocolectomy.
And my hips are still sore.
Not majorly sore, but still sore nonetheless.
Um Nonetheless.
What am What am I saying?
Oh, anyone here?
Not yet.
But I'm going to start.
So, my soreness lies here and right here.
Sore. Sore.
So, I would say I I would say I'm still in the recovery phase.
Um I'm about 90% recovered, but my hips need some um help.
I want to gain strength in my hip muscles and flexibility in my hip muscles.
I used to be way more flexible in my hips.
But again, I am uh being patient with myself.
But I do definitely have to do some stretches.
So, if you want to watch, you can.
If you want to get a yoga mat and follow along with me, you can do that, too.
I feel like this stretch is amazing.
It really uh loosens my hip joints.
Oh my gosh, I love it.

I'm stretching after a proctocolectomy.
Um I'm a year and 3 months out, but my hips still a little sore and not as flexible as I used to be.
Um Like even this is I feel soreness right here where my hip bends.
So, trying to work on that.
If I stay consistent, I believe um I will promote healing, promote flexibility, and strength in my hips. So, taking it slow.
If you want to follow along, please do.
Go go get your mat. You can do some stretches.
But if you just had your proctocolectomy, of course, no stretching.
Uh when you first get your proctocolectomy, I'll say the first first like 6 months, just chill out.
Just focus on walking, right? That really helps with healing after proctocolectomy, especially during the first 6 months.
And um always check with your doctor about when you can start exercising again, when you can start stretching again.
But for me, I did not do any stretching for the first 6 months.
I walked a lot.

I have an ileostomy.
It's permanent.
I got a ileostomy because I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer June 2024.
And I'm now cancer-free.
Um back in June 2024 when I was diagnosed um I found out I had stage three colorectal cancer, which I was like, "What?" That was such a shocker.
I thought I would be like, "Oh, I'm in stage one."
But no, stage three.
That means the cancer really gone.
It's all about how far the cancer grows outside your colon wall.
So, mine was Mine was pretty uh extensive. It was yeah, eating through the colon wall.
But yeah, so we caught it on time before it metastasized.
So, that's a good thing. But yes, I'm now cancer-free.
I've been through radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, which is a proctocolectomy, take out my entire colon.
Um took out my rectum, and zipped the, you know, down there. Zipped it up.
Oh.
All righty, I feel my um hips a little uh stretch, a little more stretched.

I want to do this at least three or four times a week.

Do not skip stretching before you work out and after you work out.
It helps your muscles stay loose.
And you don't want to pull a muscle.

And now I'm in the recliner. Oh, yeah.
We're going to ride my bike for a bit.

I didn't know you rode your bike. Oh, that's amazing.
It's such a fun So when riding my bike, I run errands, I get my exercise, I get my vitamin D from the sun.
Like I feel like it's so beneficial to ride your bike and it's low impact on the knees.
I think I'll be riding my bike forever.
Pretty pretty certain of that.
All right, let me go into these yoga poses.

And I'm using my elbows, too.

So my hips can open up.
Stretch. Definitely feel a stretch.

Not sure how long I've been doing this yet, but again, I only want to do like 10, 15, 20 max minutes.
Cuz I want to uh be consistent with it and make sure it's not overwhelming, you know?
I don't need to do it hour and a half every day. This is manageable.
Yeah, I'm at 13-minute mark.
All right, so I'm going to do this one.
Like 10 years ago I was able to do splits. Can't believe it.

I'm not even going to try that now.

>> [sighs and gasps] >> It's good uh cardio and the only thing that's really hard for me with swimming is the breathing.

I do one lap. I have to wait at the other end for maybe a minute and then turn around and do the other lap. And my uh swim coach, he's like "All right, guys, you got to do four laps without pausing." I'm like, "You said four?"
I was wondering who he was talking to. I was like not me.
Not [laughter] me.
>> [gasps] >> And even though he said to you do four laps, of course I had to take a break.
There's no way.
Holding my breath?
I got to do some breathing techniques cuz I I I don't know. I can't do four laps without taking a break. I can't even do one lap without taking a break.
And he had the nerve to say that.
Oh gosh.
Yeah, but swimming is fun.

All right. Um After this one, I'm going to go get some dinner, take a shower, and I might record a short.
