In small business sales, failing to secure a deposit before finalizing a sale can result in significant time and resource losses when customers renege on their commitments after test driving multiple vehicles and negotiating prices.

Did I just sell a car with no steering column.....Added:
Good morning, Dan from Rhubab Car Sales.
Welcome back to another video. I'm down here Sunday morning. I've not got long really. I've just couple of hours. Uh I've got my cousin chasing me for this Astra. He's desperate to get this Astra cuz his wife's without a car at the minute. Hers is that abandoned A3 over there. And this is service now.
I just need to get this um interior cleaned up. So, I'm just going to spend an hour giving this a quick clean. I say an hour. It wants four hours on it really, but I have not got 4 hours and it's not a day car as we know. I've already spent too much time on it really for what I should have done. So, I'm just going to do the best I can with it in the time that I've got.
Um, Sunday hoping for some phone calls today. Some phone calls would be nice.
Um, I put all these cars on Auto Trader about 10 days ago, so we've probably got 4 days left on the adverts.
Weirdly, the two cars I want short of at the minute of the Golf and the Ebifa cuz they've hung around the longest. I've reduced them 3295. that it beef is a bloody cheap card at 3295 considering the work we've done on it.
Um, and weirdly they're the two that are getting my my most views. That Corser is really struggling for views, which I'm surprised at. 3995 new shaped Corsera, heated seats, heated steering wheel, 65 plate, 99 98 99,000 miles. But you think that's got everything that everybody wants, but it's obviously the mileage putting people off. But I thought with that mileage, but I thought that mileage and make it look attractive with the price. I think that looks good value. A new [ __ ] for 3995.
Whereas if it had 60 70,000 miles on, you know, it'd be six grand plus and then people would be saying it's too dear. So that's the cash 22 you get with cars, isn't it? That's a car everybody wants, but they all say, "Oh, it's a bit mileagey." But then, you know, that gets it in your budget.
So, yeah, just be nice to get a couple of calls. Be nice to get a couple of cars out today.
All I can do is clean this one, get this one out, and get some um get some chicken feed back in the bank just so I can pay some bills really. Um, I'm I need going to get rid of that Audi then. I'm guessing they want me to get rid of that Audi for them. So, I'm going to scrap that. I'm going to scrap that punter over there because we're not messing about with these old cars anymore.
Uh, weirdly loads of welding to do at minute. So, that KA needs welding.
Well, Rich is on with that. I've not told him yet, but I thought we might as well get on and weld that C one up. that blue C1 over there that I've abandoned.
We were going to use it as a parts car.
And then I'm buying a van off a friend this week that's failed on loads of welding. Uh again, he wants scrap value for it. I'm moving house soon. I thought a van would be handy anyway. So I bought this van off him for 300 quid. Vic is going to do some welding on it for me. I think it would cost about a,000 quid to get through. So 1,300 quid. I'll have a cheap van. So, we've got three cars that need welding next week. So, I think that's next week's job. Strange how we've never done any welding. Rich is a good welder, by the way. Surprise, surprise. What ain't he good at? So, but yeah, he is a very good welder. Um, and it's funny how we've never had any welding to do and now we've got feed to do. So yeah, but I'm going to get on get this cleaned up to the well, not to the best of my ability cuz that I could spend hours and hours and hours on it, but just going to do as much as I can in the time I've got allocated. Uh and hopefully get rid of this today with a bit of luck. That would be nice.
All right, so that's it with a quick vac.
Should stop there really. That should be enough for what for what the car is. is a 20-y old car with 117,000 on 12 months, just been serviced, new axle bushes, uh 1,200 quid I'm doing this for, which as you know in today's market is a cheap cheap car.
Uh on new exhaust. Yeah, I think we put a new front pipe, new exhaust on it. So, I should stop there really. That's clean enough for what it is.
But it's me. I'm going to carry on. I've got the wet back out. I'm going to continue.
I'm going to go a little bit further. I just want it a little bit cleaner.
I'm going to I think those mats have had the day. I hoovered them and then I thought they're all curled up. They're all tatty.
They gave me the original Astromats, but I think they've had the day.
So, I think we'll put a new set of mats in.
Half past 9. I've got about an hour an hour or so left. Right, let's get on.
There we go. So, I've just wet backed it all much cleaner now. Just feels it all like greasy before. You could just feel the muck in it.
So really happy I did that cuz it's made a hell of a difference. I've just got the blowers on full steam now. Going to get the jet wash out. Just jet wash it off again cuz I've just done all the bottom of the doors here as you can see with my hands and put some allpurpose cleaner and just done all the bottom of the doors. So I'm just going to give it another rinse off even though it's piddling it down with with rain. Um, and then get it rinsed off and we'll just pull it in and dry it off. And hopefully that should be it done.
Right, see how we get on. There we go.
Astro all done. Back inside. Dried off.
Interior lovely and clean. New set of mats in.
Smells lovely in there now. Different car to what it was this morning.
Nice and clean everywhere.
This has turned into another one that I'd actually use myself instead of my man. Potted about in it myself. Nice cheap car. 12 months on it. I'm fully aware you're all going to comment the chain's rattling its tits off. We know I am tailoring this to somebody's budget.
That's what they've got to spend.
They've seen the car when we had it on the ramps the other day.
They just need a cheap car to get them about couple of miles a day to work and back.
He's gone home. He said, "Yeah, my wife will have it." I've said, "No, no, no.
That's not how it works. You come down, you drive it. You need to make sure that it's right for you." I've serviced it.
He's aware I've ted it. I've done the back axle bushes, uh, exhaust, other bits and pieces. But for me personally, I've got that mirror that will get replaced. That wing needs painting.
Front bumper needs painting. Chain needs doing. I could quite easily make that into a 2495 car or a 1995 car if I did all those other bits.
They don't want to spend that money.
This is what they want to spend. And this is the conversation that I'll be having with them. I'll make them fully aware the chain needs doing. That could last three months. It might last 12 months. I don't know. But I'll make them fully aware of that.
I'll say to him, "Look, £300, we can do the chain or if you want to take the car as it is, take it as it is. When you get another £300 together, come back and we'll do the chain for you."
I have sol I have solved it. Cuz when you get in it, I just do this.
When you get in here and you do that, you don't hear it anymore. You don't notice it. So that that is a quick top tip.
That is one way of solving it.
So, like I say, that is the downfalls of dealing with these old cars. I can't keep going on and on and on. I've got a test on it.
I've got 12 albums. I've saved it from the scrapy cuz that's where it were going. The girl who traded it in and bought the other DT were going to scrap it. So, we've got a little bit more life out of it. Let's be realistic. It's 58 plate. It's 117,000 mi. This isn't my 2995, 3995, 4995 stock. This is a 1,200 quid car with 12 months test.
I'm aware of the Consumer Rights Act.
I'm aware of the risk. I'm aware of the pitfalls. It's finding the right buyer who is sensible enough to know what they're buying and being honest and upfront with them and saying, "This is your budget. This is what you get.
I don't think it's a bad car for 1,200 quid for what it is.
As I said, there's not a lot out there.
There isn't a lot out there for this sort of money with 12 months test on it.
So, there you go. I'm sure I'm going to split opinion on that one. But, as always, I'm being open and honest with you all. I'm showing exactly what we're selling and I'm telling you exactly why I'm selling you it like it is.
Got the windows to do. You can see I've sprayed the inside. It's splattered up on the windows. So, I'll get get the windows done. But not a bad little card at all.
Right, I'm packing up. I said I would till 11:00. I Well, I said to my wife, I'll be back at 11:00. I All I came down to do were clean my ST. All last week, I wanted to clean my Orion. Never got done. This morning, I said I'm going to go down and clean my ST. Didn't get done. I've ended up doing this.
So, it is what it is. At least that's done.
That it's bank I'm very aware it's bank holiday Monday tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I'm back at work. So, that's why I've I thought I better just get on and get this done cuz I know my cousin's chomping at the bit wanting to get wanting to get a car to get his wife to work tomorrow.
Good evening. It's Tuesday evening. Um, I'm back down here. I've been at work today. So, I've just popped down after work because I've had the lady come down and test drive the Astra and she loves it. Absolutely loves it. She says, "Yep, that's brilliant. And it's really nice and quiet. Drives lovely," she says. And like I said earlier in the video, I've made her very aware that it's a,000 pound car. I've given her I've said a,000 pound and she's traded her Audi in over there. I'll give her 200 quid for that. Um, so we'll get that scrapped and taken away.
Uh, I offered her a KA as well. I said, "I've got the KA, but I doubt you know that'll be any good for you." She wanted a five door with grandkids and whatever.
Um, she said, "No, no, I like this. This is lovely." So, great. And I, you know, I made her very aware. I said, "Look, I just wanted you to come and drive it because, you know, it is a 20 year old car. It has done 117." I said, "If it gets to its next MOT, it's done its job. It's not going to last you 3 to 5 years. It is a 12 month car." And I said, "I just wanted you to be aware of that." Uh, she said, "Yep, that's fine. That's all I need. It's just something to get me to work and back, something to put me on."
I said, "Okay, no problem. As long as we have an understanding, as long as we are compreh is this little Citroen C1.
So, um, took a deposit on that this morning, half past 8 this morning, scratching my head, thinking I need some cars to move.
I get a phone call from a very nice chap who's bought a car from me before.
uh not long ago actually. So it the story is he bought a white Citroen C one off me in August. You might remember it.
A white five door one. I think it were a oneowner full history similar miles to this. Uh and we just put a new clutch on it. He bought that without seeing it last year. Uh he saw me buy it at um trying to think was it Aston Barkley?
Yeah, I think it were Aston Barkley.
Yeah, it were. He saw my auction video, saw me buy Aston Barkley, rung me up the morning after, asked me a few questions.
Right, I'll put a deposit on it over a phone. Really nice guy. Turned up with his son, took it away. No, no problems.
Uh, and same again this morning. He's rung me up this morning. Hi, Dan. Car's been great. Um, I want to swap it for the red one that you've got. I said, "Okay, yeah, what do you want for it?"
He told me what he wanted.
Um, it were 500 quid more than we buy any car, but I said, "I'm happy to do that because I know the car. I know you.
We've prepped the car already not so long ago. We know it's a good car. So, yeah, I can do that. I can give you what you want. I get a good trade in that I can make a little bit of money on." he gets a newer car. I assume that's why he's changing it. The one he's got is a 65 plate. This is a 19 plate. So, I assume he's just happy with it and he just wants the newer model. Uh the newer veg. So, uh all he asked for was he said, "Will you make sure it's lagging guarded underneath?" Which I think we've already done.
So, that's a good little swap. He gets a newer car. I get a nice little trade in that's a little bit cheaper.
So, it might sell better with it being a slightly cheaper car. Obviously, this, as I always say, is 19 plate. It's £5,000. That £5,000 margin is difficult for some people to get to. Everybody wants to be around the three grand mark.
Um, so yeah, that's a good little deal.
Um, looking forward to seeing him on Saturday. He's going to pick that up on Saturday.
In other news, golf. I said in my last video I wanted rid of it. Somebody commented, "I forget your name, but you always give me a bit of a dig in a nice way." You said it's h hanging around because you've as always you're too expensive or something to that effect.
And you know what? I'm going to agree with you. In my heart, I always knew that with a 2995 car, 59 plate, 99,000 miles.
The problem was it owes me about three grand and I just needed to squeeze that little bit more out of it. And unfortunately, it hasn't happened. Uh I paid 2174 for it, so just short of 22.
Granted, I paid too much. That would include in fees.
We had a little bit of paint done. I think it had discs and pads. We had a little bit of work done. It owes and Rich has had a day valing out of it. So, I've not sat down and added it up on paper, but it is give or take about the three grand mark, but I agree with you. It It looks a 2995 car, and that's what I did last night. I thought, "No, it's that's the only one."
Now, I've looked on my I have a little dealer portal on my eBay Motors, Gum Tree. That's the only car now that's been in stock more than 30 days. It's been here 45 days.
86% of my stock is selling under the 30 days. So, I've 2995 advertised it last night, put it back on my Facebook page as some of you will have seen.
I said, I'm shocked that this is still here. Volkswagen Golf in the right color in long own long-term ownership. The last owners had it for 10 years and it's got more paperwork than you can shake a Green Party candidate leaflet at. It's got loads of paperwork, loads of history with it. Cam belt's been done. It's had a new clutch. So 2995. I've had a few nibbles on that now today. A few people have been in touch.
So, I'm hoping that goes now. But you were right. The subscriber who always gives me a dig. I'm going to agree with you on this occasion.
It's a 2995 car. So, we'll break even on it. We'll get it moved on and we'll go again.
Um, the other one I've had somebody else message tonight who I'm pushing towards that. She's got some She needs a car.
She wants some cheap, reliable, cheap to run and she needs a five door for grandkids. So, I'm going to push her in that direction. It's one of my mom's friends, actually. That's I've always rated that car. Very clean and tidy. Uh, I've got that at 2995. It's banging her budget. 65,000 miles on it. So, that should be next week. Uh, I might get her down Friday to have a look at that. Although, we need to get the steering column back in yet.
Um, the lady that came down last week and test drove three cars, she drove the C1, she drove that Corser and that Corser, she's been back in touch today. Uh well, it's one of them where she drove three cars. Oh, yeah. I'm definitely going to buy one of them three. I just can't decide which one. She's written the little C1 off cuz she prefers the courses. She's got an EcoBoost, the Focus EcoBoost, which I said I wouldn't take. I weren't interested. She's took it over to her mechanic. Um and he's I've spoke to him. He's going to make her an offer on it.
And depending on what he offers her, she's now undecided if she's going to sell it or not or fix it cuz it's got a coolant leak.
So, she may or may not buy a car. But then she said to me, "We what's your best price you'll do on the Red Corser?"
So, I said, "Look, I'm not going to discuss price with you until you've committed that you're going to buy.
You've just told me that you may or may not buy the car." I said, "Once you've had a chat with the other chap, once you've decided if you're going to buy, come see me and we'll have a chat." But, um, you know, I can't be knocking hundreds and hundreds of pounds off. I'm not I'm not a car supermarket. I do want to sell a car, but as you guys know, it's fully prepped.
I look after people. I can't go knocking. Even if I knock 250 quid off and then she rings me up three months down the line saying this needs fixing or that needs fixing. Well, you've had your 250 quid.
I can't be doing both.
So, that's kind of a conversation, but but at the same time, I do need to shift cars. So, you know, I'm not going to lose a sale over it.
But that's the kind of conversation I need to have with her.
Uh, so that's it for today. I'm going to lock up. It's very cold down here as you might be able to tell. I might be shaking. I am shivering. Um, I think Rich is back in for me tomorrow. I think he's going to be welding that KA up and we'll get that through a test this week with a bit of luck.
Would that make a good raffle car? Would you guys be interested in that as a raffle car? Couple of quid a ticket.
I've got one just short of 2,000. I don't think I've got enough subscribers to do it to be honest, but I've got 1.9,000 subscribers. So, if half of you buy a ticket at two pound a ticket, that'd be 2,000 quid, wouldn't it? That wouldn't be a bad return for a KA.
Um, but I don't think a thousand of you would buy a ticket for it. Let me know.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Would you buy a ticket on the KA? Two quid.
Is that worth raffling? Could that be my first raffle car if I put uh 12 months test on it?
Okay, I'm going to leave that there because I have nothing else to tell you. I've waffled on enough. I'll come back tomorrow and see what Vic has been up to.
Good evening. I'm back down here Wednesday evening. Yeah, Wednesday.
I'm having to have a black tea. started making myself a tea and because I'm not here, Richard's failed to get any fresh milk in. Milk's a week out of date. Tell you, August tits up when I'm not here. Can't even get milk in. But anyway, as you'll see, this little C1's in here. Um because this was sat in dead man's corner. If you remember when I bought this, I drove it home and I loved it. I like this is a really good car. This I like it. Classic FM on two former keepers. Really good service history and it drives really well. Mileage 106 106 F on it.
And then I put it in for test and it failed miserably.
Uh I don't know where he's put the test sheet. It was in here. Failed on emissions. There it is.
There we go. Look. Exhaust lamber brake pipes. Exhaust emissions. subframe mounting uh oh two tires as well. I didn't realize it needed two tires, but yeah, needs two tires. So, after last week, I said I'm stopping doing these old cars.
Here we are doing another one.
So, he's on with all the welding.
The reason I didn't want to do it was because the other guy who does the welding, who I've had welding done from by in the past, I don't trust to be honest. It's not very good. Whereas I know Rich's welding's good. He's done welding on my mini before. Rich is a good welder. And as you can see, we're putting fresh metal in.
We're not fiberglassing it. We're not painting over it. We're not putting toothpaste in it. We've been and bought a fresh sheet of metal and it'll be done properly.
So that's where it rotten on the seals on both sides subframe mountings.
Um so that'll all be done right and basically as it was it was 200 quid scrap or a spares a parts car. But the body works really good on it. The engine's really strong on it.
Like I said, when I drove it back, it drove really well. It drove really well.
It's a good color. It's got good history. So, we're just going to put it right now because when I bought it, it was worth 2295.
I suspect, I haven't checked, but it'll probably be$195 now. So, it owed me a grand. I paid about 980 quid with these out the door for this. I think it were about 600 650 quid hammer price plus fees.
It were just short of a grand. So I had a grand sat out there and okay, it's going to cost me near enough a grand to put it right or six, let's say 6 to 800 quid. So I'll have six, 1600, 1,800 quid in it. Um, it's going to be another break even car, but when it's gone, it's that two grand backing is how I'm trying to look at it.
It was either sit out there and lose 800 quid on it and scrap it and we'd have lost 800 quid or we throw another 800 quid at it and we break even. So, I'm not losing anything on it. I'm not making on it, but I'm not losing on it this way.
So, when I get that two grand back in, it's money back in the bank, which in fairness, I've just got a two grand VAT bill today. So, that's my VAT pill sat there. VAT bill. That's how I'm trying to look at it. Good evening, Thursday evening. Rich has been here all day.
I've just popped down because the little beefer's gone. We've made a little hole for the ST to go in.
Uh nice couple rang me yesterday, wanted to come see the beefer. They turned up tonight when they said they were going to do. Had a test drive, loved it, took it away. Simple as that. Nice, easy sale, nice people.
Um yeah, cats are fair than that. Um, I've got a story for you on the quarter down there in a minute. I'll come back to that in a second. We'll go in my office and we'll have story time on the quarter cuz I was spitting feathers this morning. Rich is laughing because I was literally spitting feathers at half half 7 this morning. So, I'll just show you what Rich is doing. That's all the rotten quite a big piece on this side.
He did say this side's worse than the other side. You can see all that rotten metal is cut out.
Look at all that that's come out of there.
And uh as you can see, it's tacked a nice nice new big sheet of metal in.
That's going to get welded in there. And that'll be nice and solid for years to come. That'll be the most solid C1 on the road. That'll be better than factory.
Uh he's done the other side and he's protected it all with some glo. But that's all welded up. And again, he's not just tacked it in place. He has welded it properly.
Uh and like I said, we've put proper metal in it.
So that's that one. That's what Rich is on with.
Right. Let's go to my office and we'll have story time.
Good day.
Friday, end of the week. My day off today. So, I've been down here since about 10:00.
Uh, this is going out tomorrow, but I've not got time to fettle it tomorrow cuz I'm at work until and then as soon as I finish work, the guy is coming to pick this up. So, I just thought I'd give it another It It weren't mucky to be fair.
it been validated, but I just thought I'd give it give it another freshen up, wash it again, put a bit more wax on it, give it another flick with the Hoover inside.
Um because it's he's a returning customer.
Nice chap. Bought two cars from me and he's a subscriber as well. I always get nervous when subscribers come by cars, especially when they're returning. So, I just want it to be right for him.
Last time he bought little white one, five door one that he's bringing back and part X in. So that's a good swap.
And he did ring me last time with a couple of pointers. He said, "I'm not criticizing, but he said um you missed the wheel well, the spare wheel well were mucky, so I'm making sure that's done." And the TPMS sensor came on on the way home. He had to stop and pump the tires up. So we don't make the same mistake twice. I've just pumped all the tires up, reset the uh TPMS light. So hopefully that should be good. And I'm going to make sure that my friend Rich has done the spare wheel well this time. And just give it another flick with the Hoover inside.
Probably put a new set of mats in as well if I've got a uh I think I've got one set of mats left. So we'll put a new set of mats in and just freshen it up.
Uh I've just done that coarser. didn't realize, but because I'd photographed that corset, I must have just give it a quick wash last time and thought, "Oh, that's good enough at photographs." I think I remember I'd done two or three that day and I were in a bit of a rush and I quickly washed it, got it photographed and up for sale. And we've not had much interest at all in this. And I I can't understand why cuz it's a lovely car.
Anyway, I came to photograph it again today and I pulled it outside and I just thought, "This is filthy in here." when you started looking closely, it were really dirty and it just didn't have that fresh smell. It didn't have that sort of shine that it's got now. So, I've ended up giving this another full ballot. Um, I've waxed it all, hoovered it all out inside again, but lovely car. Half leather seats, really clean and tidy, little touchscreen media unit, connect all your phone, heated seats, heated steering wheel, cruise control.
1.4 petrol engine, good engine, 16in alloys, front and rear parking sensors. Honestly, cracking car. This really should be flying out.
Nice and clean and tidy.
Nice shine to it now. So, that one's ready. I'm a bit happier with that one.
RP photographed it, revideed it.
Get that one ready. And then I've got somebody coming at half 4 um because she wants a cheap runaround.
Well, not cheap. She's got three half grand to spend. So I'd mentioned the Hyundai to her, but obviously that's not ready cuz the stadium column still hasn't come back.
Autoonics in Blackburn. I am now naming and shaming you. Absolutely garbage company.
Garbage. Um customer service is poor. This should have been coming straight back because they've had this steering column once and supposed to have repaired it. They didn't repair it. They replaced it with another unit. They sent me another column. So, they didn't even send me my own column back. Repaired. They sent another column that we put in. Didn't work even though they were supposed to replace the motor on it. Got in touch with them, sent it back. That must have been 10 days ago now. So, you'd think.
So, we've had that steering column out three times. So, you'd think that sending it back would have been straight on it. Right, let's get this back to him. Nope. 10 days later and I've still not heard a thing from him. So, Autotronics in Blackburn won't be using you again. Don't recommend.
Uh, and I've still not told you a story about the Corsera yet. So, I'll get this washed and cleaned and then I'll tell you the story about the lady that I've had um who my friend Will always calls calls what an absolute weapon. Who are these people?
So, yeah, absolutely messed me around.
Lovely lady, nice lady, but I don't think she's realized how much she's messed me around. either through a little bit of ignorance or naivity. I don't know. But she is lovely. She's not done it out of nastiness. But yeah, cost me a lot of time and stress. So, I'll tell you that story shortly.
Right, that's all ready for tomorrow.
All polished, clean and shiny.
Give it another back out inside. New set of mats ready to go. So, I'm not stressing running around like a headless chicken tomorrow.
It's come up. Absolutely lovely.
Nice car. Real, really nice car.
Like I say, that's kind of a standard where we want to be really. That's the sort of cars we want to be selling.
And um I've just had one of my mom's friends come down. Um, she's she texted me last week wanting to to get a cheap car. Don't think she's been driving for a little while. She wants to get back on the road again.
Uh, so I said, "Yeah, come down, have a look. We've got a couple of options."
She came in. She likes that straight away. I said, "Well, funny enough, he's trading in a an older version of that with the same mileage, 65 plate with 60,000 on and it's five door cuz she wanted a five door." So, she were kind of interested in that. That were no good because it's three door. That one no good with it being three door. I did have that in mind for a I mentioned that to her when I spoke to her last week. I said I've got a Hyundai uh nice condition, five doors, 65,000 miles on it. Uh and we had a brief look at the Corser, but she has gone for the Hyundai.
So I've sold her a car without a steering wheel in it. We've still got that steering wheel to get back in, but she's bought it. Um, as she's seen it, I said, "That's fine." I said, "We'll get the steering wheel sorted. I'll give you a ring next week when it's ready. Come down and have a test drive and obviously we'll we'll go from there, but she's quite happy with that. She's going to go home and sort all her insurance and stuff." So, really, really nice, easy sale, sort of customer that you want.
Comes down, brought a son, a son appreciated condition at car. We had a look around the ST. said, "We used to be mates. We used to live on same street and stuff. We used to play football and whatever together."
He spotted my Orion outside as well. He said, "Is that yours?" I said, "Yeah."
And I forgot his dad had that shape of Ryan. His dad had that. Can't remember what color it was. It might have been a white one. I think it were white. And my dad had the old shape of iron. So that were interesting. So going from nice customers who don't waste my time, who come down and just see a car, like it, and buy it. Let's go talk about the other side. this story that I keep meaning to tell you. Let's have a sit down and we'll have a chat about this customer that's test drove.
She came down to test drive. She test drove the Corser, that Corser, and that C1. So, she test drove three cars. Let's go have a chat about it.
Right. So, this customer came down, turned up. She did message me before she came. Um, I was in the middle of cleaning balloting that Corser sometime last week. So, she test drove what did you test drive first? I think test drive that red Corser first. The Corsera SRI. Test drove the silver Corsa. Um, and then we went out in the C1.
She wrote the C1 off. She didn't like how it drove with a three-cylinder engine. I did say to her before she got in it, "Have you drove one of these before? it will be different to the corset, etc., etc. So, she loved the two courses, but she just couldn't decide which one.
One at 2995, one at $4995.
Um, she loved the red one, but obviously just didn't know if she needed to spend that much money. She was quite happy with a 2995 one, if that makes sense.
So, she said, "I love them. I love all three cars. Um, I'm definitely going to buy one, but I just need to go home and have a have a think. I said, "Yep, that's fine. No problem. You go home, have a think." She also had a a Focus 14 plate Focus EcoBoost, but she asked if I'd take in part X, and I said, "To be honest, I don't really deal in them. Um, if you can get rid of it some other way, that I'd appreciate it. Um, so she she had a mutual friend. She used a mechanic that's a friend of mine. Um, and she said, "Oh, that's okay cuz I think Paul's interested in it." So, she took it down to him. He made her an offer on it. Oh, no. He were fixing it. It had a coolant leak. So she took it to him for the coolant leak fixing which were a leak from the water pump.
She then I didn't hear anything from her for quite a few days and I thought I'll chase her up, see how she's getting on.
So I just sent a polite message. How's your car search going? Any more thoughts on the two courses?
Um, and she said, "I'm just I just need to know how much I can get for my car before I can decide."
Yep, fine. No problem. That's what she said. I'm still interested. I'm just seeing how much I can get for my car.
So, I left it at that. She then messaged me asking if I would um is that the best price I could do on the red quarter? And I said, "Well, yeah, it is really." No, I didn't. I didn't say that. I said, "Once you want to buy," I said, "Once you've decided if you're actually buying, come see me and then I'll discuss price." I I didn't want to You don't discuss prices with people. Well, I don't I don't generally discuss prices anyway. Me price is me normally my price.
But it's been a slow month, slow couple of months. I needed a sale. I had good margin in that car. So, I were happy to come down a little bit to get a sale through. So, I said to her, "Once you've decided you want to buy or you committed to buying, come down and see me and we'll have a chat." And I left it at that.
The more the day after she said, "Will you do four and a half on the Corser?"
So, even though I'd already said, "I'm not really going to discuss price." She then messaged saying, "Will you do four and a half?" I said, "Right, I'll do four and a half as long as it's a quick and easy sale and you don't mess me about." Oh, yeah, it will. Don't worry, no problem.
She then messaged saying, "Oh, that were it." She then messaged saying, "Right, I'm going to go somewhere else because you won't take part X on my car, so I'm going to go shop around a little bit." I thought, "What's going on here?"
So, obviously, I didn't want to lose this sale. I need I needed that that car's my dearest car I've got in stock. It's a good chunk of money. I needed it to go.
Um, so I said, "Right, what what do you want for your car?" Um, send me regent mileage. I thought, you know, I'm going to have to buy that car.
And so, she sent me regent mileage. I said, "Right, what do you want for it?"
She told me what she wanted, which what I was happy to pay. So anyway, I think the other guy then increased his offer on her car and she accepted that.
So then she came back to me and said, "Yeah, I'll definitely have in your car car. This were on the Wednesday. When can I pick it up?" I said, "Right, 4 and a half." I said, "It's up to you. You can pick it up tonight if you want."
Yeah, that'll be great. And then she said, "No." She said, "Oh, no. Can I do Friday?" I said, "Yeah, Friday is fine."
This is my mistake. So, I should have took a deposit at this point. I should have then messaged you and said, "It's £200 to reserve it."
Um, and that'll reserve it for 7 days.
That's so This is my mistake. That's where I should have took a deposit at that point. And I usually do and I don't know why I didn't, but I just didn't at that point. I think I were at work. I were busy. Um, and to be honest, I I kind of trusted her. Like I said earlier in the video, lovely lady. Um, I didn't have any doubt that she were going to come and buy this car. But hands up, my mistake. Lesson learned. I should have took a deposit at that point.
So, we agreed. She's picking it up Friday.
Thursday morning, I go to work. Half past 7. Get a message. Hi, Dan. I've had a chat with my brother. I'm going to keep my car now. I'm not buying a car.
At which point I'm just like, you've come and test drove three of my cars, which has took time.
You've then told me that you're going to go shop around and and look at other cars.
You've knocked me down on price.
I've bent over backwards for you to get this sale done and now you've suddenly just gone, I'm going to keep my car. So, honestly, I went absolutely fuming Thursday morning, lost that sale. Um, even though I'd done everything I could to get it over the line and it honestly it's it does put you on a roller coaster. it.
As much as you think, oh well, that's your job, your business, blah, blah, blah. You think, yeah, and I know that's the pitfalls of car trading, but at the same time, how many of you guys go to work and expect to go to work for free, for nothing? That's been my time. Three cars that have gone out on the road, three cars that will need re-washing, bits of petrol, uh my time messaging and going back and forth, and then to put a flip side on it, what if I had gone back on my word, what if somebody had walked in on Thursday and said, "Oh yeah, I like that car.
I'll pay $4995 for it." And I sold it.
And then she turned up Friday morning or if I had to ring her and say, "I've sold that car now." "Oh, why? You you promised to sell it to me on Friday."
"Oh, yeah, but somebody else came in and wanted it, so I sold it." Then I'd have been the bad guy, wouldn't I? I just wouldn't have done that. It wouldn't have crossed my mind to do that.
I promised to sell it to her at that price. And that's what I were going to do. So then that's why I got a bit annoyed that she's gone back on her word of oh, I'm not buying the car now.
So yeah, that's my story with that.
You you I'm sure you guys will have comments on it. Yes, I should have took a deposit.
Um, do I need to keep start vetting people before I take them before they take free of my cars out? I've had that happen a couple of times recently now and it really pees me off to be honest.
I have no problem with anybody coming down and test driving a car and walking away from it if it's not for them. If it's not as described, if it doesn't quite drive like we expected or if there's a knock or a bang that they're concerned about, if the engine doesn't sound quite right, fine, walk away.
But to come and test drive three cars, love them all, and then not buy any really pees me off. And I've that I've had that happen twice in the last um in the last couple of week. I I don't like that. Especially when it's a small business. That's my time.
It's my money.
Um if you want to do that, go to a car supermarket.
I don't I wouldn't personally do that to a small business.
You know, I've got other stuff to do. I am busy. So, I do like people coming. I do send no hassle car sales and it genuinely is, but I don't expect people to come and drive my cars like them and then not buy them for no reason. If that makes sense.
Let me know what you guys think on that.
Uh so, yeah, that's it. It's Friday.
That's the end of the week. We've just got a sale on the i20. So, that's a good sale.
I need to get that steering mat back in and get that out as soon as I can.
Got the C1 going out tomorrow, so that's a good sale. And we've got a good part X coming in. Um, we've also got another car coming back to us next week, which I sold recently.
Um, the red Citroen DS3 that's coming back to me. She's bought a new van and doesn't need it anymore. So, that's I'm going to do that cheap. Actually, I'm hoping that just comes back, needs a wash and we'll get that we'll get that out the door. So, and then we've got the blue Citroen that Rich is currently welding to come back. So, we'll have three Citroen coming in next week. the DS3, the white C1, and then the the blue Citroen C1 that Rich is welding. So, we'll have a red, white, and blue Citroen next week. That'll be interesting. So, I don't I don't one, I've not got the funds to go out and buy more stock, and two, I don't really need to because I've got that Part X coming in. I've got the DS3 coming in and the one that Rich is currently welding.
We've also got the Black Ka coming in.
He's going to be get get on with welding that next.
So, we got plenty of bits kind of floating around that I'm clearing up.
Yeah. So, that's that. But at least I've got the the Red Sea one going out and the i20 going out, which will just keep me ticking over nicely.
Um, right. Thanks again for watching.
Hope you've enjoyed the channel. Um, and as always, please like and subscribe. I really appreciate it. Have a good weekend. I'll catch you next week.
