Landlords | Don’t Miss This Renters’ Rights Act Deadline

[00:00:00]We're 7-days in. The Renters Rights Act came into force on the 1st of May. If you're a landlord and you're watching this, you have to make sure that you issue the new information sheet which has been supplied by the government to your tenants by the 31st of May. So, that's going to tell them that all the updates of the laws in a simple information sheet for tenants. But, you have to do that by the 31st of May. And any existing fixed-term assured shorthold tenancies, because the new name for a tenancy now is an assured periodic tenancy. All assured shorthold tenancies become assured periodic tenancies by default. So, the information sheet is what the government's provided that all landlords have to issue to their tenants giving them that information basically.

[00:00:42]>> You're probably going to get fined quite heavily. And what I think's going to happen as well, the government are going to try, maybe not the government, but local borough councils, they're going to look for some examples to make of landlords very early on in this thing so that they can say, "See, this was the right thing to do. There's so many landlords that aren't compliant." Just really make sure that you're up to speed on the compliance because I think there's going to be a lot of landlords that are going to be slapped with 7-14,000 pound fines just for not doing the things that they should have been doing.
