HVAC technicians must systematically diagnose system failures by checking electrical connections, verifying power supply, inspecting components like condensate pumps and flow switches, and testing refrigerant pressures to identify issues such as frozen systems, low refrigerant charge, or clogged drains, while understanding that some repairs may require management company approval for reimbursement.

Saturday waking folks up to fix their HVAC #bluecollar #hvac #hvaccontractor追加:
Let me take my gum out for y'all folks trip.
Anyways, uh good morning folks. Good morning. It is 6:00 and I am on the road already. I am headed to Atlanta. It is Saturday. Let me show y'all.
I'm at a red light, guys. I'm at a red light. Saturday the 30th.
Um guys, my son, he woke up at 3. I think it was like 3:40. Um my wife, she ain't feeling too well, but I I believe we believe she's okay. Um let me turn this light off. And uh and yeah, guys, I just I just didn't go back to sleep. So, I got a couple calls today and I did I was going through my calls when I couldn't sleep and I saw that one said it was vacant, a vacant home. So, we are going to do a early call. Early bird, get the worm, folks.
Early bird, get the worm. And then my daughter, she has a recital today, a dance recital at uh uh 4:00. So, I'm I got to make it I got to make it home early. So, I planned on today waking up early anyway. So, it is what it is.
Thank God for another beautiful day.
Let's get it going, folk. Let's get it going.
Goodness gracious.
This property has been inspected and conditions have been found which are unsafe or unsanitary and which are in violation of the Atlanta Housing Code.
This was May 1st, 26.
Man, I hate working in the ghetto sometimes, boy. For real.
Ah, let's see if I can get a code for Hello.
Hello.
Yo yo yo, hello.
Make sure nobody up in here, bro. All right. Trying to get All right, we should be good. Let's hurry up. Get up out of here. All right, put this Put this on. Cool.
Okay, it just clicked on.
Sure. Everything is on.
Okay. Everything looks to be on. Um I know this thing is in the crawl space.
That's what they said. So, uh get a picture of this thermostat cuz I might not be coming back up in here.
Come to think of it, I probably should have should have seen if this thing even has the outdoor unit here.
And most likely it was probably stolen.
So that's the crawl space door. Think got the light on.
So right now what I'm looking for is a cross uh that's the crawl space. I'm looking for the uh outdoor unit cuz we ain't got no outdoor unit. I could just leave.
Where is it? outdoor unit.
Oh, there is no outdoor unit.
All right, guys. It's going to be a easy call.
Look at that.
Would it be stealing if I steal this conttor and this cap? Would that be considered stealing?
Y'all tell me, guys.
So, there's no line sit here.
That crawl space had the um the light on.
What was that?
All right.
Wow.
Okay. So, this is just an assessment.
All right. So, I'm about to leave this one. Hey, they stole the unit. Can't really do much. I just called my next call and she is scheduled on here from 7 to 9, but uh she was like, "Hello."
So, it's still early, guys. People still asleep, but hey, you want the AC fix, you got to get up, baby. Oh, man.
Check it out.
Line is frozed up.
Dang. Poor lady woke up for for this.
She should have turned her thermostat off.
If you find out it's not working, you turn the thermostat off, guys.
As you can see, this is not a heat pump.
Straight AC.
Straight AC. So, can't even put it on heat mode. even if I wanted to, folks.
>> All right, so I can't do much on that one, so we'll just reschedule that one.
Uh, let's head on to the next one.
>> Hey, how you doing?
>> Hi, good morning.
>> Hey, good morning. Sorry to wake you up so early.
>> No, it's okay.
>> So, what's going on with the system?
It's not cooling.
>> Doesn't work. Okay, cool.
>> Broken for two days.
>> Can I go to the thermostat and then do you know where >> Watch out for a welcoming committee here?
>> Okay. Okay.
And there's one more dog. They're all sweethearts. They're just going to want to say hello. His favorite thing in the world is love. So, and then here's this guy. So, yeah, this is that thermostat.
>> Okay.
>> And then there's another little dog, but she's a little lazier. She might not say anything.
>> Okay. So, >> did somebody somebody was here already or >> Mhm. Yeah. The city side people came by.
I guess he never put it back together or anything.
>> Okay.
Um, I would call Mike at cityside.
>> Okay, I guess that's the Okay, let me um let me look at everything. Okay.
>> Yeah, I just put that.
>> All right, so all breakers are on right here. So, let's go back downstairs.
All right. So, I had just went up there to check the breakers, make sure they weren't off or if they were off, cuz it looks like I walked into a mess.
I mean, their maintenance guy didn't even put the stuff back. Look at this.
Like, I wonder what's going on.
He got rid of the safety on the condensate pump.
All right, first things first. I got to see if I got power. And I got to get power to this to see what's going on.
All right. So, I got the 120 coming from the breaker.
So, why did he leave this off?
Just left. This is the live wire coming from the breaker. And this is the wire going to the furnace.
Now, why would he leave that off?
Okay, I'm going to um just go back upstairs and bypass that just so I can get power to the furnace for now.
They're not labelled.
Not labelled. Not label.
Okay, I'm going to have to shut off some breakers, okay? Cuz I don't know which one is labeled.
>> Yeah, I know.
>> Every single one of those labels is me.
>> Yeah, >> just like trying to figure it out as I go.
>> All right, let's start with the 15.
Yeah.
>> Um, I can pop around the house, too, and like look and see what I noticed on.
>> Nope, that was in it.
Go back upstairs.
I still hear the beeping sound. So, it still has voltage.
And I got this one and this one.
Okay, guys. This thing still has voltage. I should have done this before. I'm going go ahead. Um, this is a wireless meter.
H, at this point, I'm just trying to show off.
I took already three trips. I bet I'm probably going to get the right breaker this time.
But let's go use it. So put this on wireless connect.
What's this one?
I got 9 volts.
Okay.
at that old fuse box.
Now, we got to be careful with this CPVC stuff here, guys, cuz this thing would just crack.
I'm not even going to try to take that fuse out. I wanted to see if it was blown. I'm going go back upstairs, turn that uh breaker on.
Guys, we're about to see if this thing gets any power.
Okay, the unit came on immediately. The outdoor unit.
So did the fan.
I heard the outdoor unit come on. So So we need a new box and a switch.
Ain't that maintenance guy couldn't figure that one out. I mean, I'm not I'm not trying to be judgmental, but okay. Let me see. Let me see if I know I got switches. I hope I got a box in the truck. All right, guys. I had a old box switch. So, we're just going to take this out.
I did turn off the breaker.
These CPVC pipes, they make me real nervous.
This wire is so old.
Golly, they don't even got a ground.
That's not good for the flame sensor.
But right now, we're trying to get the cool going. So, no ground. This is the one going to the furnace.
Okay, I got to bust out this knockout right here.
Don't you hate knockouts? Cuz they call them knockouts and they don't always knock out.
Let me go ahead and restrip this. This one we're going to wire nut.
We're going to wire nut that one with the other neutral.
Go ahead. Get a curve on this.
Sorry guys, I'm kind of working in the air, so I can't really have the best control or the best footage.
We'll put this on the other side of the switch.
Come on, baby. I hate working in the air. Come on.
There we go.
Hey, working in the air, guys.
But it happens sometimes.
Okay. Now, this wire nut, our neutrals, and then we'll tie our ground right here.
All right, guys. We're in.
Now, we're just going to squeeze everything in.
I should be I should still be able to put a screw on the sides. Um, so I can get that screwed in there. Yeah, I got this screw right here.
Okay.
All right, that'll be good enough cuz this house is not in the best condition. All right.
All right. We'll go ahead.
All right guys, our unit is on.
Trying to work with this door.
Who knows where Buddy left the other screws.
There's a 5/16 right here.
All right, we're going to let this thing run.
I wonder if this works.
Took it out of the circuit. There's a precious switch with you.
Trying to make sure this pump works.
He took the safety off or somebody took the safety off.
Okay. Okay. So, it goes here to the uh to the um laundry laundry drain. Okay. So, the pump works.
Just going to check if this thing has continuity.
If it does, going to wire it back in.
So it has continuity.
I keep moving. All right, guys. I think we're good. I think he was just trying to figure out uh what was causing the unit not to come on and he tried to bypass that. So, I'm going to uh just wire it back in.
Let's check our temperature split. She has some window units in there, so it's not that hot in there. 68.
See lights 50.
I think we're good. I don't have to check pressures. I don't believe I do.
Um, let's wire this bad boy back in.
We have a switch now.
I didn't even see if he had it wired still at the control board.
See, let's follow this.
Yeah, still at the board. See, he's going to R. Yeah, he's breaking with R and he wire it together. That's why it's running.
So, let's just get that back in.
And the safety of the pump. Oh man, this is crazy stuff we run into, guys. The stuff we run into.
I got another wire nut right here.
Okay, switch. There we go. I hear the unit come on.
All right, let's get this out of the way and let's put this back in there.
How about this filter? Let's check this out.
I'll probably tell her to take care of that cuz tenants they do get back charges I think if they don't replace their filter. All right guys, everybody everybody's uh having a hard time picking up the phone cuz I guess the time frame is a little earlier than uh it ain't even that bad guys. It's like 11 to 2 and I'm calling them at 9:00. So they better wake up. They want some AC, boy. But let's head on to the next one.
>> How you doing? How you doing? What's up, >> bro?
>> Yes, sir. Sorry. A little earlier than expected. Good, >> bro.
I ain't doing [ __ ] >> So, uh, what what's going on with the system?
>> Okay. It's leaking.
>> Okay. Let's take a look. What's the hole in the system?
>> Is it, bro?
>> Okay. All right.
right here.
>> Mhm.
Like >> that filter is not probably a week old.
I just filter.
>> Whole new system leaking already.
>> Mhm.
>> That's what I said. See, the old one used to do that.
>> Really?
>> I don't I don't know. They then they was like uh the the fan unit out back had a bad leak, so they was like, "We just going to replace it."
>> Yeah.
>> And it's still leaking.
>> It's still leaking.
>> Does uh do you see anything? Does it cool properly? Do you still see it?
>> It worked fine.
>> It just leaking.
>> Yeah. It just that drip, bro.
>> All right. All right.
Let me go to the other side where the furnace is.
>> All right. Yeah. Door >> right here. Okay. Cool. Thank you.
>> This a 45 >> 20.
Yeah. Yeah. It might be something else.
>> All right, guys. These are apartments.
So, I'm pretty sure it's not going to have its own dedicated drain going outside. It probably goes to one big drain where many others are draining. Oh, look. It do got it own drains. Check that out.
This is system got it strain right there.
That's probably not it.
It's probably this one.
Dang. They just Look at this guys.
Ridiculous.
Okay, this is a drain right here. So, we got a drain. And yeah, this is this got to be the system.
This is a 454 system. I can tell by the locking caps. Well, those aren't locking caps by the caps. So, let's get my vacuum over here.
There she goes. Came on. All right.
Let's go ahead and see what we get out of that.
Heat. Heat.
I can see some stuff coming up.
I saw some some brown brown.
There you go. Here we go. Right here.
That look like some babies.
Sorry guys if that was too explicit.
I'm just It is a joke. It was a joke, guys.
All right. Um This is a tight spot right here. It's probably why they ain't put switch right there.
I need my knife for this one.
Okay.
Put some of these tabs.
Oh man.
Pour some water down through there.
Just like that.
in the hospital.
>> I know.
sports robberies.
>> All right, y'all know I can't go a day without unclogging the drain. So, that was a simple a simple call. Let's um got one more, guys. Let's head on to the next one. So, the system's not working.
>> Yeah, just the power went out on this thing probably like Tuesday. It just stopped working.
>> Oh, okay.
>> I pulled it out. So, when you do it, you just >> pull it out. I did that.
>> There's no batteries though.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, this one probably don't need batteries. Um, do you know where your indoor unit is? Like, all right, guys. We got a blank thermostat.
Maybe a float switch or a blown fuse.
We'll see. Right now, I just got to get a ladder to get up there.
I hate when that happens, but part of the game, folks. Part of the game.
Hey, there's two AC units here. This is like a an apartment complex.
I hate these houses in Atlanta. They're so weird.
Sorry guys, I don't want to say the word hate. So, it's got to be this one cuz the other side is another property.
Okay, let's see if we got a clogged drain.
Some water right here.
Let's see.
So, I wasn't getting no power at the furnace. I mean, at the thermostat, that is completely dry.
That got some stuff in it, but it's not the condensate pump. It's not even wired in. Safety's not even wired in.
And I don't see water overflowing on the pump. So, obviously, it's this switch.
It's that float switch. So, this thing I don't think we had a drain issue cuz this is not stopped up and this is dry.
So, did y'all see that filter? I tried to get it on video.
Check this out. This is a This is a What is this? a 10 in or 8 in.
This is crazy.
Either way, even if it's a 10 in, this is the only return they have going to that filter.
This is a this is a 1 and 12 ton. See the 18 right there?
Well, this is a 10 in, but look how bad it is. It's just not even strapped or nothing. And it goes to a filter grill right there, which he showed me. And the filter is very dirty. So, that might be our issue.
Let's go ahead get this flow switch out the way so our unit can come on.
At least the flow switch did its job.
All right, guys. Our unit just came on.
So, let me leave this flow switch out while we check things and we'll let the unit run.
I have to get to that filter. All right, guys. We're going to go ahead check these pressures um and see what we're getting.
This thing just came on. It had a delay.
That way we can verify if the system froze up, which I think it did based off the drain line not being clogged up there.
This thing might be low, folks.
Sometimes you can just tell just by putting your probes on. You can hear the pressure. You're like, "Oh, this is low."
So, I got my temperature split up there.
What in the world? I got this on backwards.
I had it I had the uh probes on backwards, so I just moved the I just moved it right here.
Liquid suction.
All right. 63 63 suction pressure. So, this thing definitely froze up. This is Let me see.
This is 14A.
14A. Let's check our super heat subcool.
Okay. So, I was taking this off and this thing is oily. Super oily.
So, I mean, look at the armor flex.
Something is going on.
Might not even Trying to get a good reading.
Yeah, my sub cooling is not reading correctly. Okay, there we go. Got a one degree subc cool 67 degree super heat.
So this is low charge folks.
Besides that damn Oh, sorry. I don't not mean to cuss. Besides that filter up there. Besides that uh return just having one 10in return.
I just don't understand why sometimes I see oily spots and I cannot find no leak.
All right. So, I did not catch the leak.
I'm pretty sure if I would have probably charged this up and then look for the leak, it probably would have been more um been more findable. But with this company, guys, they uh have a low NTE.
We can't do all that. So, all we can do is recommend repairs. All right, guys. So, unfortunately for that one, the tenant gets no cooling. Um, it sucks, but that's how it is with these uh management companies. Either you, you know, you can offer the the charge and go, but this specific company, they they ain't going to pay if it's not if it's not in the if it passes a not to exceed limit, they don't care. They they ain't going to pay. So, all you can do is recommend repairs like a nitrogen leak search or uh, you know, an actual leak search versus just a quick leak leak search that I just did.
Or you could, you know, I'm pretty sure if I would have charged that unit up, I would have found that leak with more pressure.
But like I said, they're not going to pay for that. So all you can do is recommend it and wait until it gets approved. So but yeah, guys, that's all I got for today, Saturday. Let me show y'all the time.
12:02. Not bad. Not bad. Not bad. So, time to go home. Time to be with the fan bam. Uh, hope everybody has a good weekend. And I do have to work tomorrow, Sunday, unfortunately. It is what it is.
Um, thank you guys for watching. God bless.
