This video documents Ezekiel Kyama, a Kenyan university student who became a prominent figure in the 2024 Gen Z protests against the controversial Finance Bill by capturing protesters breaching Parliament and delivering a message on behalf of the youth movement. After escaping gunfire and going into hiding for 21 months due to government threats, he has resurfaced and expressed his continued commitment to fighting for Kenya's betterment, demonstrating how young citizens can take significant personal risks to participate in democratic movements and advocate for political change.

Ezekiel Kyama resurfaces 23 months after Parliament protest incident本站添加:
Now to another story. 23 months after protesters stormed Parliament during demonstrations against the controversial Finance Bill of 2024, one man stood out armed only with his phone. Ezekiel Chama captured the moment protesters breached one of Kenya's most guarded buildings.
He went further into the National Assembly chambers, sat on the speaker's chair, and delivered a message on behalf of Gen Z protesters. And as security officers opened fire, Ezekiel escaped and went into hiding fearing for his life. He has now resurfaced, and our reporter Gatete Njoroge spoke to him and filed the following report.
>> Mr. Speaker, sir, I'm here to address you.
>> The same words spoken 23 months apart by the same man.
But unlike in 2024, when Ezekiel Chama made them inside the National Assembly chamber after breaching Parliament, this time they are delivered in a calm setting. A selfie video he recorded during the chaos went viral, making him one of the most recognizable faces of the Gen Z protests.
That was a volcano of that day.
One of my friends is Eric Shawn.
Eric Shawn was shot dead.
Evans Mutisya was shot dead.
>> For nearly 3 minutes, Chama remained inside the chamber as security officers swept through Parliament to flush out protesters who had overrun security. But amid the chaos and gunfire around the precincts, how did he dodge the bullets and escape alive?
>> nominated MP by UDA to come and approach.
Come on, Mia. Not to knock you down. Not to knock you down. You will vote yes.
Come on, Mia. Not to knock you down. Not to knock you >> Fearing for his life after receiving reports of an active operation to hunt those who invaded parliament, Ezekiel opted to leave the city and went into hiding.
>> I had to disappear the next following day, but I was within Kenya. I had to go for some for certain reasons, security purposes. Because this government at that point was very malicious.
It had no >> For 21 months, he lived in isolation, constantly looking over his shoulder.
But as time went by, Ezekiel's resolve to keep fighting for a better country forced him out of hiding.
>> Finance Bill 2026 >> The former university student who hopes to resume his studies soon says he's ready to go back to the streets if only to make Kenya a better place.
>> Fearing he could be targeted, Ezekiel has engaged Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to act as his lawyer >> in case the government has issues with him.
Chama I'm here as Babu Owino to represent him as his advocate.
And I will represent him in any court from the lowest court to the highest court.
>> Gatete Njoroge Citizen TV, Nairobi.
