In arid regions like South Texas, creeks that have been dry for years can suddenly flow again after significant rainfall events, demonstrating how precipitation patterns directly impact water availability in desert ecosystems.

San Miguel Creek in Texas IS FLOWING AGAIN!Added:
So, what's going on, guys? Welcome back to the channel. My name is Robert. This is your first time tuning in. So, today some of you guys might know where where I'm at. A lot of you guys probably don't. I'm here at the San Miguel Creek here, um, just outside of Tilden.
So, this creek has been dry for a few years now. It hasn't had any water flowing.
I'm coming over here after we had a big rainstorm and kind of just documenting it cuz it's finally flowing again. It was actually higher, um, the the next day or two after the storm. It's already been, well, I guess the day of the storm and the next following day. Um, it's already been about 2 days, 3 days since the storm. So, the water has gone down quite a bit, but, um, it's a great sign. We're going to keep following this water, um, downstream seeing where it ends up at and then going and checking out the other rivers in the local area.
But, I'm going to quickly pan the camera around and show you guys what I'm looking at and kind of walk and talk at the same time.
Um, if you can do me a favor, don't forget to like, share, and subscribe on the channel. It helps it out tremendously and helps to grow the channel as well. I always come out here and document our findings on the rivers and and the lakes.
Um, yeah, I mean, I'm not even going to try to walk down there. I'm going to end up slipping. It's all muddy. You can tell where the water was at yesterday or even the day before. Um, it was a lot higher.
You can tell by all that grass that's stuck in here. Which would have been a great time to fish it, but I mean, who would have thought this thing would actually be flowing that high again?
Um, now it's a it's a little trickle.
It's a little bit like a creek now.
But, um, yesterday and the day before it was more like a little small Texas river.
Um, yeah, this is, uh, San Miguel Creek. So, the water used to be all the way in here. You have to walk over here in this bank and growing up as a kid.
Um and then the water would There's like a little This is basically like an island right here in front of you. And then on the other side the water also comes in the back of this little island and they would kind of meet up downstream and then they would meet up right here. Um so the water was you could barely see the island. It was like right maybe a foot below the island so you can see it.
Um now it's just completely completely exposed. But on the other side of that it's like another little creek and the water would meet up.
There are a little bit of fish. You can kind of see a little bit of baby swirls here.
So there are some some fish in here.
I don't know if they actually stay once this water goes down. It's going to continue going wherever it's going.
And then once it once wherever fills up then the water start probably backing back up but it's going to be a while I'm sure.
If we get another rainstorm like we had maybe the water will stay and we can actually start fishing this lake again.
I mean this river again but we'll see.
We'll see what happens.
Um but yeah you can tell that the water was much much higher.
It was probably another five-ish six-ish feet or so compared to where it is at today.
So in total is maybe about 10 ft 12 ft deep somewhere here.
Um cuz that doesn't look too deep but it actually is like a little crevice that runs kind of uh straight side to side here going towards the bridge so it's actually a little deeper than it than it looks. It is like a little a little creek.
Yeah that's uh that's San Miguel Creek for you guys.
Like I said the water used to be all the way in here at one point and it's been dry for years now and now it's at least flowing again. It hasn't had water in here in a while.
But I'm going to walk towards that bridge real quick.
I like to walk the the whole bank of it, but it's just way too muddy.
See how the water was all the way over here? You can tell.
A lot of these fish that come from in here, when we would fish it are from like ponds and personal stock tanks of of ranchers and farmers.
So, you'd catch a lot of channel cats out of this out of this creek.
Yeah, all of this is a little bit flatter, so you can tell that the water was all the way in here as well.
Um but yeah, so that's what we would usually catch in here is a lot of channel cats and some were pretty big size channel cats, too.
I think this is kind of the top of where the water was at. It looks like in here.
Looks like this is pretty much it.
It came up just to this little concrete right here.
And I don't think it made it to this little wall.
We can check and see if there's any fish stuck back here, though. I don't think so.
Oh, yeah, there's definitely water all the way in here. This is probably about as high as it got.
And it's probably really muddy, though.
Yeah, there's still a lot of moisture in here.
Yeah, the water was in here for sure, though.
I was going to try to see if there's any uh fish that got hung up in here, stuck in here.
But, it doesn't look like it.
It doesn't look like any fish got stuck in there.
It is really, really muddy, though.
For sure.
Ooh, that's is slippery as heck.
Yeah, I know. I don't see any fish in here at all.
It looks like it even pushed this uh this um hose that's pushing water.
It looks like it might have pushed it or unless they intentionally curved it.
But, I think it was I think it did get pushed cuz it looks like they kind of like slid along that bank over there.
Cuz it doesn't make sense to extend the uh this hose all the way out like this. It makes sense to go straight across.
Less hose used and uh yeah, it just doesn't make sense. So, I'm pretty sure that the the water pushed this hose, which if you guys ever tried picking up these hoses, they're freaking heavy. So, and then with filled with water, um yeah, you can only imagine how heavy these are, which you have to imagine how strong that water must have been to move this whole freaking thing on its own, you know? It made a huge circle.
Basically, you can tell how how wide it was when it was high, all the way from in here all the way to over there.
And it takes a lot of force. The only reason it didn't get pushed further is because of that tree. That tree kind of kept it in place. If not, they would probably have to be redoing all a lot of this uh this work here.
But, I'm going to go ahead and get out of here.
So, uh without trying to slip and fall cuz it's yeah.
That's the reason I stopped because it started getting too slippery.
Um but yeah, I wanted to show you guys this one. We're going to go continue on and go see some more. Um if you want to become a member on the channel, it's $2.99 a month and it helps uh helps it helps me out personally. Um helps pay for my fuel to be coming out here checking out these places. Um but, I enjoy it. I enjoy doing it. Do it for you guys, too. You guys are always asking for updates um and I don't mind doing them as well.
But, without further ado, we'll go ahead and get into it.
But without further ado, we'll go ahead and see you guys later. Till next time, be careful, be good, take care, and God bless.
See you guys later. Bye-bye.
