[00:00:06]Beneath Oakland's busy streets, the City Rail Link has been steadily emerging. As New Zealand's largest infrastructure undertaking and its first underground metro, the project is set to redefine urban mobility and shape Aland into a city of the future.

[00:00:30]When complete in 2026, its 3.45 km twin tunnels and three new stations will double the capacity of Oakland's rail network, the equivalent of adding 16 extra traffic lanes across the city at peak time.

[00:00:46]>> The city rail link isn't just a transport project. It's a once in a generation transformation. and it connects Oaklanders to jobs, homes, education, and it supports the city's cultural identity through design that reflects Barry heritage.

[00:00:59]>> But building a metro under Oakland wasn't simple. The tunnels passed beneath some of the city's tallest and busiest structures, including directly underneath Commercial Bay and the 41story PWC tower. Crews worked through volcanic rock throughout the project and in one section 6 m below low tide level.

[00:01:20]Yeah, working 6 m below the low tide level is always going to be fairly challenging given the water pressure and the ground conditions.

[00:01:27]>> It was imperative that the engineering design was precise and backed up by a quality waterproofing system >> to protect these underground structures for generations. The project required a highly reliable waterproofing system with no room for error. That's where Seeker's global expertise comes in.

[00:01:45]Some of the waterproofing solutions were custom manufactured in Europe based on proven systems used in major metro projects. Our role was to bring that global knowledge to Oakland ensuring every detail was robust enough for the local conditions. Detailing around safety passages and services was extremely complex. We collaborated closely with teams on site to make sure everything performed exactly as required. From waterproofing the tunnels beneath commercial bay to ensuring durable flooring and finishes in public concourses and operational areas, SEA worked alongside designers and contractors to deliver complete end-to-end systems on a project as complex as city rail link. Uh see technical support made all the difference. The support was essential across stations from public concourses and platforms to staff operational areas. The ability to deliver customized solutions, high volumes, and proven performance meant we could install with confidence and stay on schedule. No compromises. Around each new station, Oakland is already evolving.
