This video demonstrates a systematic diagnostic approach for a 2001 Sea-Doo GTX DI with hard start and fuel smell issues. The repair process involved: (1) Initial visual inspection revealing fuel in cylinders and spark plugs, (2) Fuel rail pressure testing showing excessive pressure due to a stuck regulator, (3) Electrical system diagnosis identifying a failed relay in the relay box, (4) Engine flooding cleanup from accumulated fuel, (5) Performance testing revealing the engine was running on a 'learner's key' limiting power to 4,500 RPM instead of the normal 4,800 RPM, and (6) Final verification using diagnostic tools to confirm all systems are functioning properly. The key insight is that fuel system problems can mask other issues, and a complete diagnostic approach is necessary to identify all contributing factors.

Seadoo Gas Guzzler 2001 951 di
Added:And here we are with another Sea-Doo Rotax direct injection.
This is a 2001 GTX and it is having a hard start issue and smells like gas.
It almost looks like a little bit of fuel dripping out.
From the exhaust. It smells like gas back here. Anyway, we're going to try and start it, verify the issue and see if we can fix it. There's definitely a fuel issue of some kind because it smells like gas in here.
So, what would we do first? Well, try and start it.
Get this all opened up.
Should even take that center console out.
Okay, let's do a quick test start.
No.
Sounds [clears throat] like it's running on one cylinder.
So, I'm going to take this off and then we'll see which one it's running on. Center console or center seat holder thingy.
What's you ma call it?
Aha.
Now we got some room.
Okay, let's do a visual.
See if we see anything obvious.
A little bit of water in here.
Everything is on.
Air injector connected there and there.
Okay, [clears throat] let's check compression.
Suppose we could probably even tell by looking at the plugs.
That one is soaked.
So is that one.
Oh.
Uh All right, let me roll this thing over and see if we get a ton of crap flying out here.
>> Oh.
Why so much fuel?
That is crazy.
Oh, it's There's something going on.
That's dumping way too much fuel in there.
Okay.
Can I even check compression with that much fuel?
Let's try.
Drown mode.
So, it shouldn't be dumping fuel.
Oh.
No, the front one.
Lot of fuel in there.
Okay, we got to check the uh fuel injectors, I guess, and the air injectors.
Uh I should probably get a plastic container.
>> Is that too big?
Yes.
What is going on?
Hmm, going to have to ratchet.
Aha.
I think that's a little bit rounded.
Oh, something weird's going on already.
The fuel rail it's all pressurized in there.
Something's going on.
That's not depressurizing.
>> Okay.
I'm going to set the spark plugs back in so we don't drop anything down inside.
So now, why would that be?
>> [snorts] >> We got zip ties everywhere.
Again.
Something weird's going on there.
And I noticed that the rave solenoid was not releasing pressure.
I had to think about that for a minute.
I'm going to pull the fuel rail right out.
So tight in there.
Something's jammed up in here not letting the pressure out.
Okay. [clears throat] Come out of there.
Oh, yeah.
Okay. I guess I'll pull that right out.
I'm thinking that maybe one of these regulators is stuck.
And letting the pressure get up way too high.
So before I do anything, I have another one. I'm just going to pop it on and see if it makes any difference. If it does, then we know what the issue is.
Just saves a lot of monkeying around.
So let's just pop this one back on and see if anything different happens and then we'll know.
Oh, I got to hook the two at the back first.
Where's the return?
>> Let me just fix this wiring.
Maybe again.
Yeah.
Where is the other injector wire? Right there.
Fuel in there.
Now, what I want to know is What [snorts] do I want to know?
We're still dumping fuel.
I want to hear that uh relay release the pressure.
Not sure if that seems more consistent or not.
Okay.
Where is the spark plug wrench?
See if we get anything.
Mhm.
Maybe I'll take the tether off.
Fill up the fuel rail.
Throttle just keeps climbing.
I want to hear that valve.
Okay.
So, now she's releasing. So, now what?
Was this thing right flooded full of gas in the uh bottom of the crankcase.
Oh, Jesus.
>> [laughter] >> Look at all that.
Let's uh take this out and run it on the hose.
This is brutal.
This is an oil slick. Uh storms are coming, but I got to test it out here. The garage was just a mess.
Let's see if it starts now or not.
Water is on.
1,400.
Time to look at the engine.
Okay, releasing the pressure.
Start again.
Uh What look?
Nothing? What can that be?
Uh what the F?
Uh you got to fix five problems.
Really?
What the heck? How can there be nothing?
I got the gauges on.
Nothing.
Uh come on.
All right. Let's see what's going on.
Let's take the lid off the relay box.
Oh, when I push the button I hear the fuel pump.
>> [clears throat and sighs] >> That I think before happened on another machine I had it was bad connection at the uh computer.
Let's check that. I just check everything here.
Might have to test all the fuses.
I mean it looks nice and clean.
Yeah.
It's not activating the starter.
Guess we'll do a fuse check before we go through anything else.
Ah.
What the hell?
Try that. I'll just do each one individually.
Nothing.
This one.
Ah.
Nothing.
Ah, nothing.
And that one.
Now what?
Oh, boy. Just for fun, let's see if we can get to the relay here.
See if this one clicks.
Could the relay have failed just now?
Tether.
I can't believe I'm dealing with this.
Ah.
The relay just went bad in that box.
Holy cow.
Okay.
We're going back in the garage and I'll swap it out.
Think we can push this in?
Hoping.
Come on, baby.
Starting to rain, so.
>> [snorts] >> There we [clears throat] go.
Man, that did not want to come out.
Don't know what's up with that.
At this point, I guess we don't care.
She's snug in there. Holy.
I might not be able to do that. I thought it would be easier. Okay.
Might have to get some needle nose. Oh, paper towel.
Do it again.
I should probably hook up the relay first.
No room.
Okay, computer.
>> [clears throat] >> So that's a repair.
Just so we can do the repair. Let's see if anything happens now.
I think we're getting close.
Now I got to hook it back up to the hose again. Back on the hose.
Additional plan, we're going to take the uh clip off the carbon seal here.
Then I can run it out of the water longer.
That clip's going to fall under the motor.
I didn't know if I could catch it. I caught it.
Good.
Now it's not rubbing against the seal.
And it's not going to go flying either.
Good. Now I can fire it up and let it run for a minute.
Uh Water's off. See if she starts again.
Oh, yeah. Running better.
I'd like to dunk it in the water so we don't have to listen to that uh pump rattle.
Guess we'll see if we can get the clip back on, shall we?
Without dropping it down in the bilge.
Okay.
Uh what do you want to do? One more uh test fire?
It does and we'll take it down to the water.
It's really windy and rough today, so that's the issue.
That's a heck of a lot better than what we started with, boys.
Okay. Let me put this back together.
What I want to do before I forget, get some Loctite on here.
Uh >> And you need a wobble bit.
I don't want to get jacked up in there.
Perfect.
Oh, [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] What are the chances of ever finding that?
I guess we got to address the water leak too in the exhaust.
Uh, going to have to get the camera out for that one.
Something else I found was this pipe here.
No clamp.
And that's got 100 lbs of pressure, so or 80 lbs.
Now, what will come out of there, hon?
80? Yeah, that cuz it's the regulator.
Oh, it's going to fight me.
>> That'll do her.
Okay.
Couldn't find the socket. Got to get serious.
Uh, spark plugs.
I just want to see if they're all wet and nasty or whether they look better.
They were both just a mess.
A lot better.
Maybe I'll pop in some new ones.
They're dry.
But, who knows how much fuel and crap got in there. I did spray them out with brake cleaner, but and we have non-chlorinated brake cleaner.
And that doesn't seem to clean anything.
Yeah, they're a lot better.
We're going to put new ones in.
Why not?
Oh.
That was a trick.
They're old ones in the box, too.
Old brand new.
I wonder if they were just replaced.
>> [snorts] >> I don't know what that weight is on there.
So, let's put one of these.
Yeah, there's a whole bunch of used plugs. Don't like that white one.
All right, moving on. All right, it's the next day.
We're going to go test this thing out.
It's been hurricane winds all day today, all day yesterday.
Getting sick of waiting, so we're going to go put this thing in the water.
Here we go.
See if we can even get it in the water.
>> Pretty rough.
I wonder if the plugs are in.
Let's go see.
Good call.
That could have been bad.
See the left is all over on that side over there?
Okay, here we go.
Hopefully this thing starts.
And it does. Look at this.
There's some birds. some birds.
See?
Really?
Oh.
Oh, crap.
>> All right.
Let's turn around.
I can't go out there.
And it was reading 4,500.
So, we're only getting 4,500 out of her.
That's not good.
So, all I got to do air and fuel test to see what else is going on.
This is good.
She don't want to go.
>> 38 Ah.
4800 48 is the max.
So, we fixed two problems.
Still got one more.
Okay, here we go on the Can-Do Pro. I think I already realized why this thing wouldn't get up and go. That's a white tether.
And I think he said this was a learning key.
So, let's see. That's why we had no top end, no umph.
Keys learning key Add a normal key.
And write that key.
I'm sure that's what it was.
We'll check for faults.
Add faults. See this?
This is the one you don't want, the wrong pattern, but we haven't got that in a while.
Oh, this stuff.
Looks like stuff has been disconnected and reconnected, so we're going to clear all those faults out.
Everything's inactive, which is good.
Battery voltage is good. Intake is low.
Oh, no.
14.4 should be.
Actually, that's pretty close.
Just check that everything is working.
Yep.
>> [bell] >> Yep. That one goes too long.
Yep.
Nice.
Nice.
Perfect.
Uh Anything else? No, nothing else there we want to Temperatures were all good.
Uh the following 23 37. Everything looks good.
So, now I got to put it back in the water with a proper key to see if this thing goes or not.
Ugh.
Holy cow.
Three big ones and then we're good.
Really?
Okay.
This side network should be 3,700 RPM right now.
>> [music] >> Hey, we got a beep.
It's all that bouncing is probably the oil. We're all going to back out.
Oh, wow, that really wakes it up.
We'll see what that was.
Running perfect now.
We can find out what that beep is.
Hopefully it's nothing.
More like a fuel warning.
>> All right.
I'm going to load this sucker up.
Holy cow.
Okay, got the computer hooked up.
Back to the learner for now.
And let's see if we get any codes.
All zero.
Diagnostic cap missing. Maybe that was what possibly came loose. I don't think so.
All right, I think we'll just put everything back the way it was.
Good that it was no faults.
Put that diagnostic cap on good and tight.
Throw some seats on it.
I love it.
All right, well there you have her.
Runs mint.
Uh that was a crazy one. I've never seen anything like that where the fuel rail rail went uh I I don't know whether a fuel injector locked open and that was flooding.
This one here looks kind of messed up.
You can see in there.
I don't know. I'll have to go through and test this, but having another one it was easier to uh swap them out. By the time you pull this all apart, go through everything, it's cheaper to get it put a used one in than it is just to get one fuel injector. So, that's what we went with.
So, we had to diagnose the problem, we had a bad relay. So, we had to fix the relay in order to figure out the fuel problem, which it originally came in with.
Then we figured out the fuel problem, and then we had no power.
So, we had to figure that out and or like power as in horsepower.
I've never driven on a learner's key before, I don't think. Maybe I have, but it felt like it was running on one cylinder.
But man, when we put that second uh the the regular key on there, that thing took off like a bullet. So, I think he's going to be super happy.
Anyway, I think that's it for this one.
I got another one coming tomorrow with some other issue, I don't know.
They're usually all messed up by the time I get them. Anyway, so that'll be on the next video and uh thanks for watching.
