HOW MUCH I SPENT BUILDING A MOBILE BARBER SUPPLY TRUCK ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฅAdded:
This is how much it cost me to start my own mobile barber supply van. I'm 22 years old. Me and my wife built this mobile barber supply truck so we can go to each barber shop and sell them highquality products and machines. A lot of people ask me how did I get started in this industry. I started cutting here when I was 15 years old. I'm a high school dropout. I got my GED and turned around and went to barber school. From there, I was cutting full-time in a barber shop for the last 6 years. Most barbers get to the point where they either want to own their own barber shop or go into a suite. And I didn't want either one of those things. So, I took my knowledge from the industry so I could turn around and sell to the barbers. We definitely did not start with this van right here. We started with a 6x12 truck and trailer. A month ago, we decided to buy this 2023 Dodge Promaster van. One of the most difficult things was finding one of these vans in good condition because a lot of times they're a work van. So, we ripped everything out to create this store. A lot of you guys have asked for a tour.
So, let's get on with it. So, starting from the bottom, literally, we got plywood planks down on the floor that we painted black. And then we also put down some carpet as you can see. From there, we got these shelves and we bought these in the very beginning. We made sure that if we were to convert into the van, which was the end goal anyway, that these would also work for the van. So, they're heavy duty shelves. These things don't go nowhere. We have them bolted into the van. Above us, we have the hexagon lights. Honestly, I just really like this look. I also film with the meta glasses a lot and so we needed a lot of lighting because the metas don't do very well in low lighting. So, I thought it would look really cool.
Number one, it would be great in videos and it's very easy for everybody to see the products. So, of course, being in a trailer and in a van, you're trying to pack a lot of product in to a small space. So, we had to kind of move things around and do a lot of trial and error.
So back here, this is like a shoe rack shelf, and we just put it up on the back. This is where we keep all our combs, our brushes, barber pencils, and some hair grips, stuff like that.
We also have these. You'll see a ton of them throughout the truck. They are magnetic hooks. This entire van's magnetic, so it makes it really easy to hang stuff up, and they're super strong, super durable. So we have a lot of the kids capes up. We have regular capes.
hang some things throughout the truck.
That way, people can have them out and be able to see them. And it also doesn't take up too much space for us, too.
Another thing that we experienced very early on, but we didn't know at the start, was of course this thing's moving around a lot, so a lot of our products went everywhere. Sometimes we had some products even get ruined because they would tip over or they would, you know, open. So, we went ahead and got these stackable bins.
And with these bins, we keep everything nice and neat. That way, nothing goes everywhere and it keeps it organized. As far as all our after shaves, we keep I don't even know what these are called, >> but organizers.
>> Yeah, they're like organizers. Um, the neat thing about it is when you grab one, the next one slides up. So, it keeps everything looking really good and it keeps it from falling over. So, it's really good for the after shaves. It's really easy for everybody to grab and even better for display. So, we really like that there. Of course, a big thing are these rubber bands that we have because this is what keeps everything safe, especially clippers and trimmers.
You guys know if you drop a clipper and trimmer, you're pretty much screwed out of a clipper and trimmer. They can't fall. Of course, they're in the boxes anyway, so you have extra protection, but since we're moving around and everything, it's better to keep it all locked up. So, these are easy because they move enough for us to grab it out, but they keep it if the van was to ever move. Next up, got these peg boards. We did not have these at first, but we have a lot of replacement blades. They're very popular. barbers need to replace them all the time and it was kind of hard to keep them in a bin where people couldn't see them or I was like shuffling through especially because we hold such a variety one of each kind in each bin we take up an entire shelf of just replacement blades. So we got this pegboard right now it's currently zip tied but that thing ain't going nowhere.
The holes to these shelves did not match up to the holes of the pegboards but we rigged it up. You know that's what you got to do sometimes. rig it up. So, yeah, this is what we put all our blades on. And then we keep these so that they don't fall off. Up here we have the bags. That way if anybody gets a big order or wants a bag and can't carry it in, boom, they're right there. We also have a watch your step. We have a couple of those in here. And turn around.
Everybody's always asking about our security. Of course, we keep security cameras in and I also film on the meta glasses. So, if you try it, you're dumb. Anyway, underneath we keep a lot of our extra so that if we were to run out on a route, we can grab some of the extra to replace it. It's happened a couple times before where we run out of a certain item. So now, as the weeks have gone on, we've been able to know what we need to keep extra stock on, like cool care and certain things like that that are a need and not a want. It's a big thing in this business. Now, one of the biggest struggles for me was I was a barber before and you'd think that probably makes it easier. No. Some of my first orders were directed more of what I like as a barber and what I preferred. But you can't do that. You can't be biased.
You need to learn what everybody likes and what's popular right now and have the variety because everybody likes something else. took a lot to kind of dial the orders in, learn what is very popular in our areas. Thankfully, we've been able to do that, and we've grown from those first few orders. As a Barber Supply, it's a gamble. You know, you could get new items that don't move. You can get uh items that move really well.
You can get items that did move at one point and don't move now, and your money's just sitting there until it sells. Now, as great as this barber supply looks, it took me months and months and months of research and time to get it to look like this, work like this, run the roots the way that we do, build up the social media the way we did. But this is our mobile barber supply business. We are looking already to get a second truck. So, stay tuned for some other videos. Drop in the comments what you guys would like to see. We'll see you guys in the next video.
