Beyond his success on the field, his work ethic, willingness to sacrifice for his teammates, and genuine joy in pursuing his goals truly set him apart. Hillwood will not be the same without this athlete.
Uh, the athlete of the year, eighth grade athlete of the year is Jerry Dillard again. I am Emily Hicks. have been up here a few times tonight. Um, I have the honor of presenting the rising charger award for the very first time tonight.
You're going to see on the program it says charge up award. To be honest, things are a little chaotic at the end of the year and we couldn't remember what we named it. I'm not going to lie.
So, here we are. And we had already printed the programs. So, um, the Rising Charger Award recognizes an eighth grade student who has demonstrated exceptional determination, resilience, and personal growth throughout the school year. The student has faced challenges with courage and has shown a strong commitment to improving both academically and personally. Through hard work, a positive mindset, and a willingness to keep trying even when things are difficult, this student has made meaningful progress. They have embraced feedback, overcome obstacles, and continued to push themselves towards success. This award honors a student whose journey reflects grit, dedication, and the understanding that growth comes from effort and perseverance. Our admin team is proud to present this award to a student who has built a relationship with each one of us in her own special ways and will leave a lasting impression for years to come on those who had the privilege of knowing this remarkable young lady. I am proud to present the rising charger award to Nikkairo Porter.
Well, this evening is almost come to an end. Uh before we before I get started on the next award, I I want to say this uh we're here to recognize our student students and I'm I'm going off off script here, but I also want to say this to uh for families is I want to recognize our our teachers. Our teachers work hard each and every day. They show up. They show out. They love your kids.
They love every kid that's in here. Uh they give them 100% of energy every single day. I've raised three middle school kids. I have one in this school now. I know the challenge to work with 12 and 13 year old kids, not only on campuses, but also at home. And I would just like to give a round of applause to every single one of these teachers that were here today to recognize your students.
Congratulations to our Hillwood Middle School athletes of the year.
Congratulations to our rising Charger of the year. And lastly, we are going to recognize our Hillwood Middle School Charger of the Year. Someone asked me, "What does that mean to be a Charger of the Year?" And I think parents might have a little different thing is is uh it's the charger that you find in the book bag at the end of the school year that you got to turn in at the at the last day. Uh that would be the charger of the year. I think I've gone through three of them with my daughter this year. But these two students were nominated by the faculty and have been outstanding examples of what it means to be a Charger during their time at Hillwood. These students are nominated based on character, based on honor, hard work, and for being a bright spot here at Hillwood Middle School. I have the great honor of presenting the 2025 2026 Hillwood Middle School Female Charger of the Year is Brenna Lauder.
She is unable to be here today.
Exceptional student and we appreciate her time here at Hillwood.
Now, let me also congratulate our 2025 2026 Hillwood Middle School male Charger of the Year, David Ortiz.
That was quite the night. We had some celebrities. I don't think if you guys saw this or you heard him. This is We had El Guapo here. He was defeated by lucky day. Uh, so we don't have to worry about that. That's for all you Three Amigo fans out there back in the 1980s.
If you don't know the Three Amigos, then that joke just went right over your head.
Students, thank you for your hard work this year. Please know how proud I am of each and every one of you. We are thankful for your time to recognize you and all of your accomplishments. I'm sure you will have plenty more in the next four years as you travel to Central High School. And I'm sure parents will be really excited. They got four more years. And enjoy those four years that they have at the high school. For those of you this is your first adventure going into high school.
Just really take it all in. Um I've gotten two through it. I've got one more to go and it goes by really, really fast. So parents, I encourage you, every moment that you get to really enjoy uh those four years at high school, go to every event, every game, uh every play, every band recital, do everything you can. Spend your time with them. Um it goes by real fast once they hit high school. Students, enjoy it. It's four years and then after that, you're an adult. Um, enjoy making your parents pay for dinner and drinks and taking you places uh late at night because you don't have a driver's license yet.
Appreciate it. Gas is $4 a gallon. Um, yeah, it doesn't matter to you right now because you don't have a car. All right, so enjoy it because when you're 16, 17, you'll still ask them for a ride at $4 a gallon.
We have a lot of talent here at Hillwood and it's going off to Central and I tell my staff every year and every day that I can that the talent here at Hillwood is rich and it's full and we got plenty coming in and we got a lot going to Central and Central's going to be very proud of the group that we are sending them. You never cease to amaze me in how well you represent Hillwood in so many wonderful ways. Parents, thank you for joining us in this celebration. And at this time, you are dismissed. And we hope you have a wonderful night.
