[00:00:41]Welcome back to the channel. It's your girl Annabelle Rose and in this one the Ministry of Health has responded to a possible exposure of Ebola from the return of three pastors from Uganda.

[00:00:56]As well as the Hisha Bertil continues to blaze the trail providing more housing for residents who were badly affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa and an opposition senator or Senator Alan Bernard spoke on the government reducing milk from dairy products from 50% to 5%. [00:01:35]So, [snorts] it has been reported that a new Ebola strain is out there and there's a outbreak in Congo and it left some 65 persons and counting dead as officials continue to race to contain the spread of same.

[00:01:56]However, it is stated that um three Jamaican pastors have returned from a mission in Uganda where Ebola outbreak is ongoing. However, the Ministry of Health has basically sent out uh immediate press release and it's dated Saturday, May 30, 2026.

[00:02:18]Re: No Ebola case in Jamaica.

[00:02:22]All right, some travelers under quarantine as protocol. That's what they state. And I'm going to read out some of it. The Ministry of Health and Wellness has advised that there are no Ebola cases in Jamaica as previously announced and in keeping with our port of entry surveillance protocol, the health team at Jamaica's ports of entry has ramped up surveillance of Jamaicans and travelers to Jamaica who have traveled to or transited through Ebola-affected countries in the last 21 days. As a reminder, persons traveling from affected countries will be quarantined upon arrival. Since the release of the Ministry's public service announcement on Monday, 25th, the Ministry can confirm that eight persons from several flights into the country had a travel history associated with the affected countries. These individuals have received counseling from the airport health desk, placed under mandatory self-quarantine, and are being monitored by the respective health departments.

[00:03:18]Importantly, all eight passengers have not manifested any symptoms associated with Ebola. Therefore, transmission likely and therefore there is no risk as it relates to the other passengers on these flights. Again, Jamaicans are urged to review their travel plans and avoid traveling to or transiting through affected countries, and the Ministry further advises the public to ascertain health information.

[00:03:41]The Ministry of Health and Wellness is committed to full transparency and will continue to provide timely, accurate updates through its official channels.

[00:03:49]We urge members of the public, including social media users, bloggers, and vloggers to verify information before sharing it and to desist from circulating misinformation concerning the Ebola virus which can cause unnecessary public anxiety. The public is encouraged to rely only on official and authorized sources for health information.

[00:04:12]>> I rise today to contribute to the debate on the amendment to the Jamaica Dairy Development Board Act 2026.

[00:04:23]At first glance, Mr. President, the government has attempted to market this amendment as progressive and farmer-friendly.

[00:04:35]We have heard pronouncements that it will modernize the dairy industry, that it's align Jamaica with international standards, expand opportunities for goat and sheep farmers, promote diversification, and strengthen national food security.

[00:05:01]However, if that were truly the substance of the legislation before us, then we on this side would welcome such a discussion.

[00:05:14]Indeed, Mr. President, Jamaica should be moving toward a broader and more inclusive dairy industry framework.

[00:05:23]One that recognizes goat milk, sheep milk, and other legitimate dairy streams as viable opportunities for local agricultural expansion.

[00:05:37]Such diversification, Mr. President, could create new income streams for rural communities, stimulate agro-processing, reduce import dependence, and enhance nutritional resilience. But, Mr. President, when we move beyond the government's public relations language and actually examine the wording of the amendment, a very different reality emerges.

[00:06:11]The bill does not primarily expand dairy opportunities for Jamaican farmers. Instead, it dramatically lowers the threshold for what may legally qualify as a dairy product.

[00:06:28]Under the current law, and you would have heard it earlier, dairy products are defined as products manufactured wholly or mainly from milk and includes product containing more than 50% solids on a dry weight basis. The amendment before us now proposes that dairy products need not contain or need contain only at least 5% milk in order to qualify.

[00:06:55]I put it to this honorable house that this is not modernization, this is dilution.

[00:07:02]And we must therefore ask, dilution in whose interest?

[00:07:07]>> So, Jamaicans, you know, must pay attention to the you know, bills and amendments to bills and acts that these government are passing, you know.

[00:07:18]Because how can it be that them want to reduce milk in dairy products from 50% to 5%?

[00:07:27]Mhm? They are the ones who came out and letting us know all sort of sickness have gone up, have become rampant on on the Jamaican people.

[00:07:38]And they are making a move as this to put more money in at the manufacturers pocket and to hurt our farmers.

[00:07:48]This government is a uncaring government. So, when time them reduce the milk in at the products now, we're not going to walk around with brittle bones?

[00:07:58]Every walk we walk, all kind of health issues because we not get adequate and the right amount of nutrition from our food.

[00:08:07]You want a wicked a government than this?

[00:08:10]Mhm? So, all of you who know we are jumping up and down and are talking about fourth term.

[00:08:16]Miss, say you know you're going to live to regret it.

[00:08:20]The fourth term will not be kind to you all.

[00:08:23]Likewise, this third term is not going to be kind to you all.

[00:08:40]And I want the government to do this and beat her. I want all the naysayers to do this and beat her. I want all the trolls to do this and beat her because she continues to, you know, be that representative that South St. James needed.

[00:08:55]And she continues to do her part and to do her best in regards to helping those who were badly affected by the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Andrew Holness all know, no matter how they are gloating and boasting about him, provided not even one house all know to any of these victims. But, Nikisha Burchell with, you know, private donors continues to give back. We seeing the same for the adopt-a-family from Dayton Campbell down there in Eastern Westmoreland. [00:09:30]>> Right now, as you can see, he's living under a tarpaulin. He's had to use that as a shelter since Hurricane Melissa almost 6 months ago.

[00:09:39]>> Just over a month ago, Bongo was living under a tarpaulin.

[00:09:43]Today, we're standing inside his new home as he proudly gives us a tour.

[00:10:09]Today, it is a home. Not because of any grand program, but because ordinary people decided to make a difference.

[00:10:17]This transformation was made possible through an extraordinary partnership.

[00:11:38]>> And we want to say a special thanks to PCCR. When we told them about the initiative, the homes in Jamaica that were in need of build and repairs and we would provide the materials, they did not hesitate and they came to Jamaica to [clears throat] make this among others a reality.

[00:11:53]>> What you see here is more than plyboard, zinc and nail.

[00:11:58]It is compassion in action. It is proof that when communities, charities, volunteers and good-hearted people come together, lives can change.
