Artificial intelligence has been used in weather forecasting since the 1950s and now powers most modern weather models, with AI systems like Yawbot transforming complex meteorological data from the National Weather Service into accessible graphics and stories for the public, though some concerns exist about AI-altered weather imagery.

If you live in Iowa and you receive SNAP benefits, you should check on the status of your EBT card. The department shared on Facebook yesterday afternoon that they are aware some SNAP recipients have had their EBT cards canceled. That's left those recipients unable to access their SNAP benefits. They say new replacement cards have been issued and should arrive in 5 to 7 days. They say if your card has been canceled, you should not request a new card because one has already been issued. If you have questions in the meantime, you can call 877-347-5678.
At this time, the department has not shared why those cards were canceled or how many Iowans are affected.
>> Meanwhile, with AI popping up in more and more places these days, you might be surprised to learn it can even play a role in forecasting the weather. Our own meteorologist Taylor King shares some of the good and bad ways the technology is being used.
>> Artificial intelligence or AI has been a growing topic of discussion over the past few years, but has been around for decades, originally being coined back in 1956.
And it's been growing ever since, especially in the world of weather.
>> What a lot of people, uh especially my audience and and people just generally in the public, what a lot of people don't realize is that weather forecasting is really one of the first frontiers for AI. We've been doing this for a long time. Most of your weather models are AI.
>> Hall has even been dabbling in coding AI himself, creating Yawbot, which livestreams weather coverage nationwide 24/7.
>> Reason why Yawbot exists is because AI is very interesting to me, right? Um not for any other reason other than creating uh or or trying to distill weather information and and make it more accessible to the public. And all it's doing right now is taking those area forecast discussions and uh discussions from the National Weather Service in the Weather Prediction Center and stuff like that and it's just turning it into packages and and nice graphics and stories that it can then relay to the viewers in a very accessible way.
>> Although there are many positives with using AI, especially in weather, there are some downsides including seeing some AI altered weather photos.
Despite this downfall, AI has become a useful tool helping meteorologists worldwide build your forecasts one day at a time.
Meteorologist Taylor King, KCAU 9 News.
>> All right, well thank you, Taylor.
Meanwhile, the landlord of the ACX Promenade Theater is now seeking more than $4 million from the theater's owner in a new lawsuit filed in federal court.
According to the lawsuit, the building's landlord is asking the business owner to pay more than $160,000 in unpaid rent that's already owed as well as the rent that would be owed through the remainder of the lease that runs through March of 2032.
And that brings the total to more than $4.1 million. The theater has been closed since last October when the landlord changed the building's locks citing unpaid rent.
>> One last check on that forecast where there are some rain chances and little bit of that heat sticking around.
>> Yeah, that that that's pretty much it.
Nick just summarized it really well.
[laughter] Looking at 70s for today, tomorrow, and low 80s as well for Sunday. So, pretty much wash rinse repeat over the next few days. We do have a slight chance Let me rephrase, a marginal chance of some severe weather for Saturday and Sunday in portions of Souland. Not really looking at too much for that risk. Again, just looking at some large hail right around 1-in diameter and 60 mph wind gusts. But, for Monday, we warm up to those mid-80s. I know, a huge jump, but more rain.
