Most seniors bend their knee slightly to try to help the arch lift. That breaks the mechanism. The knee has to stay straight, not locked, but straight. All the work happens in the foot itself. If you feel it in your knee or your thigh, you're doing it wrong. It should feel like it's happening only in the arch.
Another mistake is leaning heavily on the counter for support. That shifts weight off your feet and reduces the pump's power. Keep the counter for light balance only, not weightbearing. Your body weight needs to stay on your feet for this version to work its best.
