The Good Stuff Dish: 90s Edition | The Good Stuff with Mary BergAdded:
[music] [applause] >> Deja, Alexis, and Leanne are helping me serve up your good stuff dish of the day. And also, I'm just going to give a little kudos. Over the commercial break, our audience was just singing very nicely. SO, GOOD >> [cheering] [applause] >> WE HAVE FUN HERE. WHAT A DELIGHT. OKAY, NOW OF COURSE WE ARE leaning into 90s nostalgia with this. So, let's jump into our first story. The 90s had a kind of legendary lineup of snacks and eats, some of which are still around today.
So, we thought we'd give some a try.
First up, we're talking jelly jigglers.
Now, this is just like classic jelly made but with like less water, so it's a little bit firmer. And then you would get things like a little cookie cutter and basically just cut it out and then Oh, it's very satisfying. And then pull it. Getting it out is going to be the hard part, everybody. Usually you turn this out first, but I'm just going to go on in.
Get in there. Is this good TV?
>> [laughter] >> There you go. IT'S LIKE A DOLLOP.
>> [applause] >> WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY THE FINGERS?
ARE WE DOING FINGERS? I WOULD SAY THE ALWAYS FINGERS. The purple one smells like um uh uh cough cough medicine.
That's fun. Oh. GOURMET. GUYS, I THOUGHT I WASN'T going to like this, but it's like it's like a mix between a gummy candy and and and Jell-O. I can't help but makes me jiggle.
>> [laughter] >> VERY JIGGLY.
I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED HERE.
BUT THE REST OF IT'S REALLY GOOD. THAT'S THE PART THAT LIKE got a little extra gelatin. I love that when that happens.
>> [laughter] >> SETTLE AT THE BOTTOM.
OKAY, SO JELLY JIGGLERS APPARENTLY THEY'RE a win. MOVING ON TO OUR NEXT ONE THOUGH.
>> [applause] >> WE'RE TALKING [cheering] CANNED PASTA. We're talking it's still a huge pantry staple. You can get it everywhere. Um we've got some here to taste. I've got the one that's like an alphabet noodles, which I do very much like. So, we got some raviolis. The raviolis look good. about this is it was it was sweet.
Yeah, you can smell the sweet. Oh, there's nothing wrong with this. Okay.
Vajaya doesn't like it. Alexis [laughter] does like it. What do you think of Vajaya?
>> it's better it's nice that it's really hot. Like I think that helps that helps.
>> Yeah. Um Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Okay Alexis, you're a fan. I would say if you don't like that then if apocalypse happens you're going down >> [laughter] >> FIRST CUZ THIS IS WHAT'S GOING TO SUSTAIN YOU. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? IT'S ALL >> 100% Um also they probably all taste the exact same. Yeah, I think [laughter] Wait, are you are you into it? It tastes nostalgic. Yeah, and like a little bit of the tinny taste to it. It tastes like my childhood. Do [laughter] you know what I'm mad about it? It's also very sweet in a way that like I feel like makes sense because there was so much sugar in everything else that the savory stuff didn't have a bit of sugar in it.
>> Is it slightly al dente? Can we say that? No? Yeah, maybe. To me it's giving like it's giving like tomato soup with noodles in it. [laughter] I'm not mad about it. I'm not mad about it. Okay, next up we're talking about um a classic pre-packaged lunch kit that every kid wanted so bad in their lunch box. Typically it's like ham and cheese and crackers. They used to have one that was like a pizza kit that was wild. Um what do Okay, let's Do we think we should keep this or leave it in the past? What are we thinking?
>> apparently this was a meal when we were kids.
>> This is wild.
>> Someone would bring this for lunch at school.
I don't know. I feel like the '90s Lunchables walked so millennial charcuterie BOARDS COULD RUN.
>> [laughter] >> I THINK THAT'S IT. I'M HAVING A GREAT TIME WITH THIS CHEESE and cracker mix so I'm having a great time with this too.
Also but they come with cookies now?
This is huge. Huge news. It's like a good dip, you know, cuz now we're fancy.
LITTLE HONEYS OR A LITTLE JAM. THAT'S WHAT IT NEEDS.
ESSENTIALLY a charcuterie board. Okay, next up um according to researchers, nostalgia is good for your brain. It helps reduce stress and boost move and mood and gives kind of meaning and connection to our current lives. So they noted that '90s pop culture resonates across the generations like no other era thanks to its music, its fashion, its film, and its TV. Um so, I got to ask you, what is the What is the like most '90s thing that you're still like 100% like on board with? Oh, I know. I know right away.
>> Okay, what?
>> There's three things. Mall culture.
>> Yes.
>> Like I miss going to the mall and like and I still do like >> Like you go and just hang out.
Um and mixtapes and music videos.
>> Yes.
>> [applause and cheering] >> Yeah. That is an A+ list, Alexis.
Okay, as a stylist, like high five.
Uh okay, so I would obviously take those ones. I did just recently hear though, okay, if you want to boost your mood, it's actually like if you listen so listen to those songs that were really hits when you were a teenager, for me, '90s, and it instantly boosts your mood so no matter what. So, that's kind of what I love is all the bands from back in the day.
Like Nir- uh a little edgy, okay, Nirvana >> [laughter] >> Of course Nirva- uh No Doubt and like uh the Spice Girls, but I'm for that alt rock and it still gets me to this day.
>> Yeah, 100%. 100%. Michelle, what about you?
>> Oh. When I think of the '90s, I think of clear lip gloss.
>> [laughter] >> The Bonnie Bell Yes. I let myself have a lip gloss moment every once in a while, but if I really want to go back, it's all about the snacks. Yes. So, like fruit snacks were so huge. Do you remember So Delicious?
>> Yes. Yes, So Delicious. The little effervescent, very gourmet. And I always bit the top off and >> [laughter] >> pretended it was a little pop, but it wasn't. It was a gummy that tasted like root beer, guys, if anybody doesn't know. Absolutely I love the Polly Pockets, still do, not going to lie. I'm going to put my guests here to a little bit of a test.
Feeling good about it. Okay, ling- linguistics, that's hard to say.
>> [laughter] >> Research says that '90s slang is making a comeback online because people are revisiting '90s TV shows, music, movies, and tech. So, we're going to see how well you remember '90S SLANG.
>> [cheering] >> STARTING [applause] IT OFF, WHICH '90S phrase [music] meant someone really cool? Was it A, talk to the hand, B, all that and a bag of chips, or C, home skillet?
Oh.
>> Don't look at the prompter cuz it's telling [laughter] you the answer.
I think it's B, though I've never used all that in a bag of chips. I know I know I know I know that's where I'm going with what you're saying. Oh, you think you're [music] all that in a bag of chips. Oh. No, and maybe home skillet is like home skillet.
>> [laughter] >> Okay, do you know what the answer is?
It's all that and a BAG OF CHIPS.
>> [cheering] >> ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS. LEANNE, YOU NAILED IT. BUT I also liked your emphasis of home skillet.
>> Yeah, HOME SKILLET.
>> [laughter] >> ALL RIGHT, which '90s phrase meant just kidding? Was it A, buggin', B, psych, or C, as if? [music] Oh. This is psych, right?
Guys, is it? Let's see. It's psych. PSYCH.
>> [cheering] [applause] >> PSYCH. PSYCH.
EARLIER WE WERE LIKE, I SHOULD BE LIKE, IT'S C, AS IF. PSYCH.
>> [laughter] >> Which '90s phrase meant, uh, I don't want to hear it? Was it A, talk to the hand, B, clownin', or C, whatever? Talk to the hand. Talk to the hand. Cuz the FACE DON'T UNDERSTAND. OH, YEAH.
>> [laughter] >> THAT'S IT. I THINK WE GOT IT. AND LET'S SEE, DID we get it?
Of course we did cuz we >> [applause] >> GUYS, THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY EASY CUZ WE WERE ALL VERY much alive in this time frame. All right, which '90s phrase meant, that's amazing?
Was it A, booyah, B, the bomb, [music] or C, home skillet?
>> [laughter] >> I don't know. I don't know. I'm going to go with home skillet for sure. Yeah.
It's booyah or what was the second one?
The bomb. I think it's the Yeah, it's the bomb. The bomb. Guys, I think it's the bomb. Shall we see? Is it B, the bomb? It is in theory.
Just kidding. Yes, IT'S THE BOMB.
>> [applause] >> YES, WE GOT THIS. ALL RIGHT, NOW WHICH '90S PHRASE WAS USED when someone was being ridiculous? We're talking as if, B, duh, or C, no doy. [music] Oh god, this one's hard.
They all seem to work.
Duh, no doy, or as if.
>> If they're being ridiculous.
>> Ridiculous. [music] As if. Yeah.
Guys, you're right, IT'S AS IF.
>> [laughter] [applause] >> GUYS, ABSOLUTE DELIGHT. THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN. This was great.
The nostalgia. The nostalgia. It's always a good thing. Hey, Mary here.
