Queen Amanirenas, the one-eyed warrior queen of Kush (ancient Sudan), successfully negotiated a peace treaty with Augustus Caesar in 25 BC after her kingdom was invaded by Rome. Despite losing her eye in battle and having her husband and son killed, she marched 30,000 soldiers into Roman Egypt, captured three major cities, and destroyed statues of Augustus. When Rome invaded Kush in retaliation, she refused to negotiate personally and instead sent golden arrows with a message: 'If you want peace, they are a gift. If you want war, you will need them.' Augustus signed her treaty, withdrawing troops, canceling taxes, returning land, and recognizing Kush as sovereign.

The One-Eyed Queen of Sudan Who Defeated Rome | Queen Amanirenas #africanstories #history #viralAdded:
Did you know an African queen with one eye made the most powerful man on earth sign a peace treaty on her terms? 25 BC, Rome [music] had just conquered Egypt.
Cleopatra was dead. Augustus Caesar ruled the most powerful empire on earth and was pushing south into the kingdom of Kush, which is present-day Sudan, a country that today most people associate with poverty [music] and war. But 2,000 years ago, it was an empire that made Rome flinch. [music] He expected easy conquest. He had never heard of Amanirenas. While Rome's general was away fighting in Arabia leaving [music] Egypt exposed, Amanirenas struck. She marched 30,000 soldiers into Roman Egypt, [music] captured three major Roman cities, enslaved Roman citizens, and destroyed every statue of Augustus Caesar she found. One bronze head she kept. She took it home to Sudan and buried it beneath the steps of [music] a temple dedicated to victory so that every person who entered had to walk over the face of Augustus. That head is now in the British Museum. Rome never got it back. [music] Rome hit back hard.
They invaded Kush, destroyed her capital, sold thousands of her people into slavery. Her husband and son were killed in battle. [music] She herself was struck by a Roman soldier and lost her eye. She kept fighting. After years of war, neither side could [music] win.
Rome sent a message asking her to come personally to negotiate with Augustus.
She refused to go. [music] Instead, she sent envoys carrying a bundle of golden arrows and a message. [music] The Candace sends you these arrows. If you want peace, they are a gift. If you want war, you will need them. Augustus signed her treaty. Rome withdrew its troops, [music] canceled all taxes on her kingdom, returned her land, and recognized Kush as sovereign. The most [music] powerful man on earth gave everything she asked for. Her name was Amanirenas, queen of Kush from Sudan, and history almost forgot her. [music] Follow for more.
