[00:00:25]Welcome back to Journey to the Beats, a place where we're here to discover and rediscover some amazing music from yesterday and today. I'm Knight and guys, today I'm really excited because I'm going to be doing a reaction to Electric Light Orchestra ELO in the song Strange Magic. And uh this has been requested a few times and I you know I thought to myself I'm wanting to go down that rabbit hole for ELO and uh just kind of get into their catalog of music and so this was the next one on the list and I'm excited to do it real quick about the song. Uh it is a song written by Jeff Lynn and performed by Eello that was released on their 1975 album Face the Music. The weeping guitar lick was provided by keyboardist Richard Tandy while Jeff Lynn played a 12 string acoustic guitar fed through a phase shifter. Song has been described as psychedelic. All Music considered it one of the best tracks on their breakthrough album, Face the Music, praising Jeff Lynn's skill at creating ballads that are as memorably hookladen as his uptempo pop tunes, noting the stunning intro full of swirling strings, some George Harrison styled slide guitar riffs. Billboard considered it to be an easy rocker with the smooth vocals and skillful string arrangements. Record World said that an immaculate production by Jeff Lynn maintains the high caliber of the group's recorded work. Okay. Uh Stereo Gum contributor Ryan Reed rated it as ELO's third best song, saying that it shows Lynn's mastery of tension and release and noting the odd arrangement with ascending and descending strings, random jazz accents of the keys and drums that enter halfway through the song, but without stereotypical bluster.

[00:07:23]You know, I got to one point and I hope you guys realized it, especially the people that know this song that love this song. You know, I I just had to kind of just push in my headphones cuz I was hearing all of these things, the strings, the piano, the guitar, the the stringed instruments. What is there is like nine nine people in this band? I I couldn't even count them all.

[00:07:50]Obviously, Electric Light Orchestra, this song is awesome. Okay, I just want to say that it and I'm going to tell you why it it I don't know. It just kind of it just caught something in me. It has this look, man. When I was reading the stuff about this song, there were multiple people just talking about the beauty of it, the the different aspects of it. Uh it the the tempo, the upbeat vibe of it, how how Jeff put put this all together, the vocals. Um this is a cool song. It has so many elements that are going all together. I don't even know how to describe this song or even give it a label. It's it's it's it is psychedelic. It's trippy and it's cool and it's it's got some some funkiness to it. And credit to Jeff. I really enjoyed the vocals, too. You know, he had those moments where, oh no, oh no. It was like, you know, it bro, this is an amazing song.

[00:09:14]I'm serious. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in today or whatever, but this hit me in the right way. This song rocks. It is such a a cool song. I I don't know if I could really think of a song that reminds me of it. And that's that's an awesome thing. So cool. Strange magic.

[00:09:34]I'm gonna and you know I was listening to the lyrics lyrics you know what I was catching was great. What I was able to absorb was great. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna listen to it again. You know after I'm done with this reaction video and I'm also going to just really dive into the lyrics. It was just so trippy in the best way possible. I know I'm glazing. I know I'm ranting guys but that's you know that's what happens you know sometimes with these reactions.
