Winter catch crops like Forage Rye and Italians, when grown between maize crops, can achieve substantial yields of 8-12 tons per acre, providing valuable forage during winter months and addressing forage shortages; successful cultivation requires careful timing of harvest windows and appropriate crop management decisions such as whether to graze or harvest.

MONSTER CATCH CROPS - Forage Rye & Italians Harvest 2026!Added:
How are you? Welcome back. We're following that last video where we were discussing the concerns of finding the right weather window at that time to take these tremendous looking catch crops that have been produced over the winter. April really opened up, didn't it? And gave a lot of us some significant windows to go and get the best of these crops that have been produced over the winter. We've been following that big crop of Italians with the veetch and also forage dry with the veetch, too. Now, I'm not going to say it was easy. everything was condensed into a really short window with regards to everything going off. And then mix in the fact that I thought I'd lost pretty much all the footage that I gained during that time through a corrupt SD card. But luckily, I managed to get it recovered. There's been a fair bit going on. But look, you always hear enough of me talking. They say that pictures paint a thousand words. So sit back, enjoy, and see a roundup of those Italians and the fore at their best.
They say the holy waters watered down and this town's lost its faith. Our colors will fade eventually. So if our time is running now, day after day, we'll make them mundane.
A masterpiece.
Oh my my. Oh my my love.
I take one look at you. You're taking me out of the ordinary.
I want you laying me down to the dead and buried.
On the edge of your knife, staying drunken by the angels up in the clouds are jealous.
No one. So this world will be ordinary.
You got me kissing the ground. Will be sanctuary.
Shadow me with your touch. Oh Lord, return me to D.
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowing we found.
Hopeless halleluah.
Homeless side of heaven.
Oh my life. Do you breathe in take my breath away at your I my taking me out of the ordinary.
I want you laying me down. So we're dead on the ed.
Angels up in the clouds.
You got me kissing the ground. Change your way.
The angels up in the clouds know heavenly next to the sea. Never next to me. on my mind was in black and white until I saw your light. I thought you had to die to find something so out of the ordinary.
Oh, you laying me down to dead and buried on the edge of your knife. Staying drunk on your ride.
The angels up in the clouds are jealous knowing we found out the ordinary.
YOU GOT ME KISSING THE crowd sanctuary.
When you touch me angels up in the clouds know what we found.
It'll be fine by dust cloud. I'm telling you, baby, these things eat at your bones and drive your young mind crazy.
But when you place your head between my collar and jaw, I don't know much, but there's no way at all.
And I'm damned if I do, and I'm damn if I don't.
Cuz if I say I miss you, I know that you won't.
But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun.
Something in the orange tells me we're not done.
To you, I'm just a man. To me, you're all I am. Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poison myself again. Something in the orange tells me you'll never come home.
If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way. The orange touches all things around.
The grass trees and goo. How I just hate you. Please turn those headlights around.
I need to hear you say you've been waiting all night.
There's orange dancing in your eyes from bold black.
Your voice only trembles when you try to speak.
Take me back to was dancing this wood used to create to you. I'm just a man. To me, you're all I am. Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poison myself again. Something in the orange tells me you'll never come home.

So, there we have it. That big crop of Italians. Did we make the right decision with deciding not to graze it with sheep this winter? I think we probably did with regards to the conditions and the situation in front of us following last year and the requirement for forage. But actually that crop of Italians, I know we've joked about it in the past with regards to is it going to get too big?
Will we get it before it goes down, that was an actual concern with regards to the weather conditions that we had at the time. However, everything's played ball and you've been able to see Italians there at full flight. And what I mean by that is is actually with regards to the likes of Italians, we're so much used now to looking at more of a multi-cut system that we don't actually see Italians at their full potential.
Maybe I fully understand the reasons why, but actually showing you the robustness of how big a crop of Italians can be, but still holding itself together. The likes of the for dry performed very well again this year.
Overall, I would say crops have averaged 8 to 10 ton an acre throughout the UK with some reports of crops up to 12 to an acre, which is absolutely tremendous.
And I hope this does become the ordinary. I appreciate a lot of you who've engaged with these catch crops over the winter out of some desired need from last year and the shortage of forage, but hopefully they've now created that opportunity to see what they can do, what they can offer you over the winter and add that extra forage into your rotation, especially over the winter months. As ever, if you've liked, please share, subscribe, click that little bell, and I'll see you for the next one. Bye for now.
