Our Farm Is Under WATER…🛶Added:
Leah, what happened?
What happened to you? You look terrible.
Rough night.
Bob, you don't look much better.
What in the world, man?
Minnie, you don't look any better yourself.
How y'all?
How y'all? Keith here with Porter Family Farm Life.
It's a wet one to say the least. Holy moly. Rain kicked in hard last night and it hadn't stopped in the last four or five hours and it is wet.
Very, very wet. Just got home from taking the boys to school and all the roads roads are flooded.
All the ditches that never run water are running water. It's insane.
Definitely a raincoat and muck boot kind of day. It's still warm out, so you got to have the shorts on, you know.
The rain has lightened up for a minute here.
We've had flood warnings all morning with good cause.
It's crazy out here.
I don't think you guys are going to believe this.
I don't even believe this.
Holy moly. This sucker was empty last night and it is not today.
Just shy of 4 in of rain. 4 in in like 4 hours.
That is a lot of rain. Holy smokes.
I knew there was a lot, but I did not have any idea there were 4 in. No wonder everything's flooding.
Holy smokes. Let's see if our cows washed away. Well, I'm going to let the chickens out. See if they like what's in store for them. Probably not big of a fan of it. What's up? Not much for a dry spot out here, but might as well come out and see it.
Yikes. Woo! We got rivers.
Got a river there and there going into our little pond down there.
Oh, coconut, you're soaking under there.
You have a big old shelter over there.
Doesn't look like any of you were smart enough to go in there.
Now you're playing in the river down there.
Jeez Louise.
And here comes the next wave of rain.
At least I don't have to do any watering today. When you get that kind of rain, that kind of tops things off pretty quick and easy. These guys look pathetic this morning. If only they knew how to walk into their shelter and stay there.
You look a whole lot less fluffy this morning, Zoro. Dude, what happened to your hair, man?
You're the only one that looks normal, Benny.
Little Joe, what's up, man?
Jasper, you look so pathetic.
Like you're rain torn and beaten down.
All the mamas. Oo, look at there.
Penny, you're starting to get a bag, I think.
Oh, poor coconut. Look like a drowned rat.
Muffin chewing on a leaf.
Remind me of Eeyore.
What's up, dude? You look a little drier than the rest. Looks like the sheep were a touch smarter. Come here.
Come on. Let's get you a little chow, man. in your bowl.
Even with a big crack in it, still got a decent amount of water in there. There you go. Come on, bad boys.
Note to self, do not keep water or feed troughs next to the building when it's supposed to rain. They are full of water.
And that one's pretty well full of water, too. And it's out in the middle of nowhere.
Got a lot of water everywhere.
Hey, get out of my back, you sheep.
Get out of here. Trying to get your water bowls turned over or your bowls.
I You get out of here. You got horns and I don't like it. I think this rain has everybody all worked up this morning.
Them sheep were not patient this morning.
I'm going to have some big old bruises on the backs of my legs from them horns.
Dang. Sheep with horns are not very fun.
There you go, kids.
Eat up. Get a little food in your bellies.
And that's quite the lake down there, I tell you what.
If only it would fill up and stay filled up.
That'd be a perfect little pond. Well, at least one guy took the memo and stayed inside and stayed dry today.
I guess maybe it's just cuz he didn't have a choice. But Casper, you're looking pretty nice in here. Nice and dry.
Bucket full of feed.
Huh? You don't know how lucky you are right now being forced to live in here cuz it's a wet one out there, man. Come here. I'll give you a pet.
I don't like the light, do you? So dark right now cuz of the clouds.
Come on.
All right.
It's like your water bucket's full.
Oh, there we go.
Yeah. You just don't want to be seen on camera acting so gentle, do you? Yeah.
You want pet, but you don't want to be seen getting pet.
Stinking guy.
Hey, you don't like them, I'll leave you.
There you go.
All right, Jasper. Just cuz I like you, I'll give you another flake just to top you off.
And now I'm back to the rain. Lovely.
Bad boys don't seem to mind it too much.
They're still up to their normal ways of running in the rain.
Man, there ain't a dry piece of cow on this property.
You boys look terrible.
All that hair just gets beat down.
You're the only one looks normal bones.
Just the handsome man. Oh boy. Get out of the feeder. The combs. Come on, man.
I'll give it to you. There's plenty to go around.
just impatient.
You guys got a shelter right there.
You might have been in there. You're a little drier than the rest.
Old flame, but you're still definitely a little wet.
All right.
Well, I think I've got everybody fed their grain, fed their hay.
I want to go check out the pond.
I'm sure the rivers that we have flowing to our pasture right now cuz they're kind of fun to see. You don't see them but once or twice a year. I will show you guys.
I have a lovehate relationship with these little dudes.
I love having little kitties around because they're so darn cute, but I hate having baby kitties around because that means we have more cats.
Hopefully, this will be the last litter we have. Their mamas are due to be fixed.
They're sure fun to watch.
I got to find some homes for all these little dudes.
Yeah, you're due to be fixed, mama. We do not need any more babies from you.
Hey, little blue. How you doing?
Yeah. Doing good.
Enjoying the river.
Look at that little river going through our pasture there. That's just one of them.
even overflowing our little high spot here.
I would love to, if I had all the money in the world, dig a hole right there and make a big old pond. That would be cool.
Up to the pond we go.
The land of a thousand lakes today.
And that pond is getting it.
She is overflowing good. Washing her out. Maybe it'll flush a few turtles out of here.
Oh, I love a good gully washer of a rain.
That water is just busting through there right now.
Love it. Absolutely love it. Gives the pond the good little refresh. If only it would do this every couple weeks all summer long.
That would be absolutely wonderful. But I know that's not going to happen. Got to take the rain when we can get it.
All right. The Rio Grande de Porter family farm life is here.
This is a big one, boys and girls. This is a good one. Check it out.
I don't know if those cows are stuck over there or what, but I'm going to have to go see just cuz why not? Got to try it out.
A lot of water.
You guys stuck over here.
What do you think, miss? That's a lot of water, huh?
That is a lot of water.
Yeah.
You don't mind it too mad or too much, huh? You don't mind it at all.
A lot nicer than the heat. I'll tell you that >> this thing has got some serious water flow.
And that's that weird spot in the fence that we've had pop up a few times in past episodes where that post likes to jump up in the air. And that would be the reason why over the years all the dirt has been washed away from the bottom of that post. So now it's just kind of rock. Rock does not hold posts in very well.
So that's part of the issue right there.
Kind of crazy. Then all this water leads down to the Mucho Grandad River over there.
A lot of times this whole pasture over here's a lot of water running through here runs off into that. You can't really see it cuz there's so much grass, but there is a lot of water in here.
Good time to wash off the gator.
Driving through the river.
I just seen a cow over there and I don't know if there's supposed to be cows over there.
You belong over there, cow.
Can't say I've ever seen you over there.
Huh. Must be cuz there's two more over there.
Didn't know that neighbor had any cows.
But I guess how would I know when we only sure about 10 foot of fence right there.
And he lives way up over the hill there, so it'd be hard to know.
My neighbors cows are enjoying the nice little Oh, look at there. They got a baby.
Nice little stream going through their place today, too.
What are you doing, Skye? You do not leave like leaving my side when it is rainy out, do you? She tried following us to school this morning. because if it's been raining and thundering and lightning, she thinks I'm gonna abandon her or something. It's the weirdest thing. But I'll get in the truck on a morning like this and she will run down the road chasing me.
She never follows me around like this.
I guess she does the same thing when I'm in the gator. I had to put her in the shop to leave this morning. Otherwise, she would have chased us all the way to school.
Come on, girl. You can make it.
Come on. It's a river, but come on, Skye. Let's go. You guys look miserable in this rain. Yeah.
Jack, how you doing, man? I don't know why you don't use your shelter. I don't get it.
You have all this nice shelter and you go and stand under a tree and look like drowned donkeys.
Yeah, you look terrible.
You look terrible, miss.
You do too, Jack.
Only go use a shelter.
Good morning, Rose.
How you doing?
Want your mama to give you a lick?
That's so good.
You look pretty happy this morning.
Yeah, you're so fluffy.
Hey, girl.
I'm going to bring her over here and say hello.
Come here. Come on, girl. Hey, Rose. How you doing?
I did not know he could fit in there.
Little Joe, how in the world did you get in there? I guess if there's a will, there's a way, isn't there, buddy?
Who else is in there with you?
Is there more than one of you in there?
Come on out.
Well, the rain has kind of subsided for a little bit and all our flood waters have receded for the most part.
This grass is going to grow like a weed over the next few days, I have a feeling.
But we do have a lot more rain on the way this week. So, Hopefully it soaks in and doesn't get too crazy. Let me go see who else is in that shelter real quick.
Who's in there? Whoa. How many of you in there? Two boys hanging out in the shelter.
I did not know you guys could fit in there. But you're smart at least to go in there.
Stopped raining, so you can come out.
Yeah, you can come out.
While we're in here, we might as well see how little Coconut is doing. Look like she just kind of taking a nap and trying to dry off a little bit.
Can only imagine getting rained on. 6 ines of or four or five inches of rain.
I've been getting all kinds of reports all around us. People have been getting tons of rain.
Hey girl, how you doing?
How's that baby doing? Is it a brewing in there? Your belly sure shows it.
Yeah, you sure are sweet today.
Coconut.
Hey, little lady.
You should have been spending more time in the shelters. kind of like your bros or your calf bros.
You look ridiculous. Hey, coconut. You're miserable in this weather, huh?
Absolutely miserable.
What's up, Maddie?
Everybody's jealous.
Pineapple, you look fairly miserable, too.
Girls fair the weather. All right.
Come on, coconut. Get up. Come on. Get up. Get up. You sack of ters. Come on.
For as wet as you look, you're actually fairly dry.
Just kind of look like a matted dog.
Stand up. He is. There's that pretty coconut. Hey, girl. Come here. Come here.
I'm sorry.
Maddie, how you doing?
You guys better go ahead and use that shelter that I built you. That'd be real smart.
Plenty of room for all of you. plenty.
That way we don't have to get soaked again cuz I think there's more rain coming this afternoon.
Yeah, there's the other guy I've been looking for.
Jasper got his own little shelter all doing his Oh, not to himself.
How many calves can you fit in those little things?
I never expected those to be good shelters for you boys, but I guess so.
Croconut's got some spunk now after the rain.
It's her first big rainstorm.
Oh, look at her go. Woohoo.
Well, now that the rain has subsided, I might as well let the sheep out and let them all graze since the bad boys are out anyways.
Jeez, guys are crazy.
Enjoy it.
They decided the electric fence over there was not their place to be. So, we'll just let them out in here for now.
There's plenty of green grass to be trimmed in here.
What are you doing there, mama?
they get right to their job. They're pretty serious about it. So, yesterday I was talking about how these sheep don't really mind this fence very well.
I was hoping they would, but turns out I need to add electricity to it to actually keep them from just pushing it over cuz no matter how close I get it to the gravel, the grass is always greener on the other side. And this stuff is super hard right here. Might be a little softer since there's moisture in the earth, but from all this rain.
But this stuff is woven and it has little electric or little pieces of wire in it in every strand, I believe.
That way you can electrify it just like a regular electric fence, but it's Yeah.
in the net form. So, it works great for sheep and goats when you have the electricity on. I was hoping I could get by without it, but turns out I'm going to have to get my electric charger out or fence charger out.
Hook it up over probably on that end.
It's probably closer to electricity.
That way, next time I bring them out, I can turn it on. If they touch the fence, they will learn real quick that it's not good to touch. And that way they can stay in here and not go eat our raspberries and blackberries and all of Natalie's flowers and all of her bushes like they've been doing. The bad boys go under there and trim up the underneath. I don't know if it's a bad thing necessarily. It's definitely only a matter of time before they start eating something they really shouldn't be eating. Natalie to hurt them or make Natalie very unhappy cuz she's got a lot of pretty flowers that are starting to flower. And last thing we need is the bad boys eating those. Speaking of those pretty flowers, here's a couple of them that are starting to bloom. And of course, no matter what we do, we've got layers of weed fabric under there. Believe it or not, there's mulch under there, but we've been This piece has not been weeded yet, but Natalie's been Yeah. trying to beat the old Bermuda grass and all the other weeds and getting this all pulled up and cleaned out. Fixing to put, I don't know, a better layer of weed paper down hopefully.
This Bermuda grass is like a daunting enemy that just won't give up because yeah, we've had this little spot here. It was nasty. Natalie has been working hard at it the last couple days, but today obviously a little hard to do some weeding when it's raining like it has been, but it just so thick. She's made it kind of in there. Not very well yet, but then this is where we haven't got to yet. It's just Yeah, it takes some time, but she's getting there. Those flowers are starting to bloom again.
These are dillies, I believe. They're really pretty. We got them a couple years ago, and they've just really taken off. They like it around here.
Thankfully, one thing that grows and has pretty flowers most of the year, but that darn Bermuda grass just gets everywhere.
But we'll finally or slowly take back our flower beds because yeah, it's a non-stop task as I'm sure many of you know. I was just looking seeing what I saw out there in the pasture.
Turns out just some guineies. Those darn guineies travel like crazy. They're pretty much all around the property at all times.
There's a couple of them, two or three of them at a time, just in different groups just yeah, searching for stuff to eat. They're pretty good at eating pretty much every bug around thankfully.
If only they wouldn't roost above the cars and stuff when they're parked in the hay barn. That would be a lot nicer.
They finally dried off thankfully.
Yeah, helps if you stay underneath cover. You don't get near as wet.
Looks like all her other herbs are starting to take hold and actually grow pretty good. She's got several different varieties of herbs. I'll call them herbs. I'm not an herb guy, but she loves growing them. She adds them to a lot of our meals. So, I'm thankful she does cuz Yeah, that peppermint's going wild.
Is that more peppermint there? Yep. Sure enough.
I think she planted a bunch of that this year. I don't know what that stuff is.
Mint, man. Some we some things take off like crazy. I think that's mint.
That's the other thing. It's hard to tell what is supposed to be here and what's a weed, but I think that's all the same stuff.
I'm more of a animal guy, not quite the plant guy. Well, it's about time for me to go pick up the boys, so I better wrap this day up. Thanks for watching again, guys. It's kind of a wet and soggy day, unfortunately.
But at least there wasn't any cows where they shouldn't be or any donkeys where they shouldn't be or anything like that today. So, that's kind of a a good boring day on the farm, if you will. But before you leave, please like, subscribe, ring that notification bell before you head on out, and we will see you tomorrow. Have a good evening, guys.
>> How much dogs did you let out?
>> All these. All three of them.
>> What are you doing, girl?
>> Oh, no. Get out of the way.
