She Wouldn't Open Up...Added:
This is Emma. She's pretty shy, terrified of other dogs, and has already been adopted and returned to the shelter twice. Since we were young, my brother and I have always wanted a dog. And the other day we found out that the shelter has a program that would allow us to take her out for 24 hours. So, we knew we had to do it. And we decided to make it our goal to get Emma to open up to us, show the world her real personality, and hopefully get her adopted by the end of the day. Only problem is, we have no clue what we're doing when it comes to dogs. So, we're probably not the best people for this job, and could actually potentially even make things worse. But really, what could go wrong?
Here we go, Emma. Emma.
Yeah, let's do this one. Yeah, she's really cute.
Okay.
Having her off leash is a safety risk.
So, we ask that you have no introductions to other dogs. She has been in adoption return previously. They mentioned she kept escaping, and she also kept getting into fights with the other dogs in the kennel. So, any other questions about the Um I think she's a little nervous. Yo, we're going to die.
She's already.
>> Oh my god, she knows. What the hell? Yo, who's she? I love her in my car. We got Emma. This is our dog for the day.
>> I don't think she likes us.
>> Yeah, I don't think she likes us.
>> [laughter] >> I think she's not liking us.
Hi. She's pretty big.
>> And she's like really shy. She's like just facing her butt at you right now.
She's just kind of awkward.
>> [laughter] >> This is Emma.
She is very shy. Oh, she is awkward. She is awkward. What she just >> [laughter] >> Um Yeah, she's shy, I don't even Girl said the girl said like she's playful though, so Yeah, she is playful. Um So, our first goal of the day was to get Emma to open up out of her shell. So, we decided to change up the scenery a bit and take her to the park.
Are you excited? Let's go. Let's go. All right, we honestly don't know where this park is. Is she trying to find a place to take a dump and pee or something?
She's really just sniffing around. Oh, it looks like she's about to do it.
She's about to do it. All right, who's who's going to pick it up? Who's going to pick it up? I'm not picking it up. Oh my god, that was quick. She like quick fired that. Rolls over here. All right, we're good. We're good. Oh. Oh. Uh sit.
Sit. Uh she only it's it's conditional.
It's only if you have a treat. Sit.
Emma, sit. Sit. Oh, and you give paw at the same time.
>> [laughter] >> Is she friendly? Uh we don't know. Okay.
Yeah, so Come on, Emma. So far Emma seemed like she was slowly starting to open up to us as we walked, but we still wanted to see if we can get her real personality shine through. So we pulled out the treats.
Low key, do you think we could teach her a trick? I think we should try teaching her how to spin. Emma, Emma, ready?
[music] We're going to learn how to spin today. Now, you're going to learn how to spin today. Ready? Spin.
Spin.
Uh [laughter] I don't know. Spin.
Spin.
>> [laughter] >> I don't know if that counts, Emma. All right, fine. Here, give me your hand.
Paw. Okay. Good job. All right, here [music] you go. Spin. Spin. All right, this is for the video. First thing we're going to do is we're going to lure the dog into the spin position three times.
Hand motion. Spin.
Oh.
Okay. Okay. Okay. I I would say that's a success.
>> Should we try it again? Maybe I should have to reward her. All the way. All the way. Oh, good girl. Good girl. Good girl. Yo, we did it. No. No. No. No.
All right, let's go, Emma. Come on. Come on. Come on. Emma. Emma, don't sniff her butt. Don't sniff her butt.
>> [laughter] >> Thirsty girl.
There's she's so thirsty. Good girl.
Oh, you're so thirsty. She just started laying down on the grass. Do you like belly rubs? [music] Aw. She's all good.
Hello. Want to see our dog?
Emma.
Better show to mommy. Nicole. We have to show you something. Wait, this is for the video, right?
>> Yeah, it's for the video. Wait, so you have her for the day?
>> Yeah, just for the day. That's so cool.
So cute.
Hello, mommy.
Yes, what's wrong with the black one?
Mhm.
Yeah.
We just turned the AC on full blast and look at her. She likes it. I think she's slowly getting more comfortable with us.
Not fully, but slowly. Almost there.
Soon she's going to try licking our faces. So, now that Emma's opened up, the next step in our day was to get her adopted. [music] But first, there's something I always wanted to do. Hi. Uh you guys just sell like a pup cup? Oh, you just give it? Oh, okay. All right.
We're going to try to give Oh, Emma.
Sit.
Sit. Oh. Oh. All right, Emma. Have you ever had a pup cup before?
All right. Here you go.
You know what they're like? They're like, "Do you want a pup cup?" It's meant for dogs.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, she really likes it, huh?
Yeah, you like that, Emma? Oh, yeah, she cleaned it. Yeah, she's cleaning it.
>> [laughter] >> So, the next thing we heard is that Emma really likes to chew on ice.
Oh, you're getting excited, honey. You want to wash that whipped cream down?
So, we're going to see if we can give her an ice cube by hand.
Oh, you like that, huh? Oh, she spit it out. All right, well, at this point, Emma seems a lot more comfortable with us. You know, every time we look at her, she kind of starts smiling and she'll eat out of our hands and then, you know, she's just chilling now. Unfortunately, we only have a couple more hours with her though. So, let's try to find her a permanent home. Let's do it.
You ready for a good day, Emma? Ready for a good day?
She's she's up for adoption.
>> [music] >> Go, you can pet her. She's friendly.
I'm going to take her to the dog. For free?
But I'm at the middle [music] of the metropolitan arena. Yeah, we going to get you a home. Yeah, have a good day.
Have a good day. You got [music] You got followers now. You got followers now.
Let's go. You got followers, Emma.
Come on, Emma. Come on, Emma. Let's go.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, be careful.
Oh, crazy, bro. Come on, Emma. Relax.
Good girl. Good girl. Good girl.
So, unfortunately, we were not able to get anyone to adopt Emma. So, we decided to just enjoy our last moments with her.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. [laughter] Oh, she like that. Oh, you're so happy, aren't you? You're happy, aren't you?
Yeah? You happy?
Emma, how would you say your day was out of a 10?
>> [laughter] >> Would you hang out with us again?
>> [laughter] >> Where should people go to adopt you?
>> [laughter] >> All right. Well, that was a lot of fun.
Honestly, it seems like you had a really good day. What do you think? Yeah. She was so like sleepy sleeping in the car.
She was like She was so calm when we first got her. She didn't want to lick at us. And like we bring her to the beach and she's going crazy when she's running everywhere. She's climbing on top of us. I don't know. She's able She's like listening to us, too. We tell her to come back, come sit down, she's sitting. She's a really good dog. I know. She's a really good dog.
>> well trained already.
As the day came to a close, [music] we realized that even though we were not able to get her adopted, we had achieved our goal of getting Emma to open up and show the world who she really is. We have no idea how a sweet, smart dog like Emma ended up in this situation, but she truly is one of the [music] sweetest dogs we've ever met. Well, we got to give her back now. Been a good time.
Been a good time, Emma.
All right. Ready? I guess. All right.
That's what we have to do.
Emma, don't be shy. Come on.
Got to go. [music] You ready? Ready to see your friends?
The one time she does not want to leave the car. Come on, Emma.
>> [music] >> Hi.
It was really fun. Yeah.
