Fold Craft Launcher Needs Work
Added:What's going on Java Minecraft players that play on their Android device? Today I'm going to cover again why my valid points that I covered about full craft launcher are more than valid and educate you on how Android works. Cuz apparently I hurt some people's feelings and I honestly don't care. But first, if you'd like to play Java Minecraft on your Android phone, then be sure to hit that subscribe button because I am not only give out full Java Minecraft game codes on this channel, I also share multiple guides, tips, and videos surrounding Java Minecraft to play on your mobile device. So if you'd like to help me become the next Mr. Beast and reach 500 million subscribers, then be sure to hit that subscribe button right now so you can enjoy playing Java Minecraft on the go. Take one. Go. So like I said in the introduction of this video, some of you got a little bit butt hurt about my honest feedback about why I don't like and why [snorts] I don't approve of full craft launcher. As an Android developer myself, there are many many flaws about that launcher that I'm going to cover again here today to educate some of you kiddos that basically came here and wrote an essay about, including this comment right here which says, "Full craft asks you for storage permission and also allows you to save the game version wherever you want. Most apps don't ask for a storage permission because they save the files at Android data." Not what it's for at all. The all four storage file access is so that you can use the app as a file manager. That is what that actual permission is for in the Android manifest. However, I'm going to tell you right now, Droid Bridge launcher doesn't require this and does not have this and doesn't need it because I coded it properly to utilize the storage access framework and scope storage if you want to read and and post that in here. If you want to know exactly what this means, here are two snippets from Google. But to explain it easily, scope storage gives you access to pick a actual location on your device to write and read files from within the app, whereas SAF, storage access framework, actually is something that you have to code into the actual application, which gives the user access to certain files that your application gives them access to. That's just it in a nutshell. And that's why you can see the files inside of your file manager of your device because Droiders Launcher gives you access to the.minecraft folder and a whole bunch of other folders, so you can see them and write to them and read from them. Write files to a directory that you have to choose on your device. Which is kind of like your PC. If you ever go on PC, on my PC take one, I'm selecting folders on my PC to actually be able to write files to.
The application or program that I have to download on a PC is not saying, "Hey, we need permission to write files to this to actually write the files."
Unless it's a file manager, of course, which I don't even think PC has that either. I think file managers just kind of work, but that's besides the point.
So, when I read that first comment from that person, I was like, "I am not reading the rest of this kid's slop because obviously they have no idea what I'm talking about and no idea what they're talking about that is. And they literally have no clue whatsoever how Android works. Maybe go buy an iPhone."
They also said something else about Prism Launcher. Well, hate to burst your bubble, I have a video on my other YouTube channel that covers how to use Prism Launcher with your Steam Deck to play Java Minecraft. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't cover it. Now, back on the device. This is Droiders Launcher.
This is the flow of Droiders Launcher after you install it. Click open, wait for it to install all the libraries and dependencies to the data folder, which is the default folder structure of your device. And now, a Minecraft EULA is going to pop up, which is very important and does happen even on launchers on PC, and you're going to accept them after you read them. And then click on allow notifications if you want to allow the notifications and then click allow.
Now, you can click the plus icon and then sign in to your Microsoft account.
So, I'm not going to show this part, but I'm going to sign in and then I'm going to be right back. And then once you're signed in, a little dialogue is going to pop up for you to pick the version that you want to play. Now, I'm going to suggest you to start off with 1.21.11 just because I know Krypton wrapper renderer works fine with 1.21.11 and click create an instance and then wait for the files to download. And now you can technically just click play and play the game. Even with a controller, if you have a controller attached like I do, it just works. You don't have to set up your controller or do any button mapping or anything like that because it just works. And then you'll be able to play the game all bloody day if you want to.
Of course, there are some tinkering and settings that you can set up. Stay tuned for another video about that again because I have to share that like it every 3 months. But, as you can see here, I'm in the game and I have no issues. Also, you can use other renderers and stuff as well because Krypton wrapper renderer I don't suggest you to use for anything above 1.21.11.
However, that's just all personal preference because of how badly forked this actual render is. Now, I'm going to leave. I'm going to leave again. And I'm going to show you something on the computer again. This is Modrinth on the PC. See any similarities here? Yes, I kind of took some ideas from Modrinth. I also took some ideas from CurseForge and basically took these ideas into accountability when I designed and developed DroidBridge launcher because this is so freaking easy, okay? Press the plus icon. Well, what do you do with DroidBridge launcher? You press the plus icon. And then Modrinth gives you options. Do you want a custom setup?
This part kind of confuses you in a sense now because I don't know why they changed this, but custom setup starts from scratch. And now, well, what does that look like? Kind of like DroidBridge launcher. You pick your loader, you pick your version, and you create the instance. You can give it a name, all that fun jazz. I'm going to do 1.21.11 just for the same sake and create it.
What does DroidBridge launcher do? Same thing. Very simple, very easy. Now you're playing your game and you don't even have to worry about anything. Now, the other thing is Modrinth on PC obviously because your PC handles uh playing the game a lot differently than on your Android. Also, is something that you don't even have to worry about your graphics drivers and all that kind of stuff. Of course, you have to in a sense, but I'm not I'm not even going to bother going there because there's going to be people that are like, "Oh, your graphics drivers actually do matter."
Well, yeah, they do, but I'm just telling you I can play on my 10-year-old ASUS still and play 121.4 probably at 60 FPS still, so all that aside. Now, when you are in Modrinth, if you click on the instance, this is your instance for that actual game that you just created. What does Droid Bridge Launcher do? If I'm using Fabric, which I'm not here, hold on a second. Let's go and do that. Fabric.
Wait for it to load the version cuz the internet was being dumb for a second there. I click on the instance and I can browse content like Modrinth on the PC.
As you can see here, browse content and look at all the same mods and everything show up. And of course, I took some more inspiration about how Modrinth is handled on the PC because I added a page viewer and everything like that so that you can actually load all the mods that are available on the top or the bottom and don't have to worry about slowdowns when the mods aren't loading.
Now, the big difference that I took from Prism Launcher is that Prism Launcher also loads mods from CurseForge using a CurseForge API key that I had to actually manually apply for. But, Modrinth on the PC, you only have Modrinth mods for obvious reasons. You either have to use CurseForge for this.
And CurseForge, same kind of flow. Click the plus icon, which is create button, and then give it a name, blah blah blah, and then create, and it's done. That's it. Now, why am I telling you all this?
Because again, my criticism, my critique, my feedback, my opinion about MultiMC Launcher is of my own, for starters, and is based off of basically telling this developer how they should change the actual launcher design to to it a little bit better. Nowhere did I bash the fact that it Oh, it plays Java Minecraft. Whoop-dee-doo.
However, I'm going to tell you this. For one, it's intrusive to have a launcher say, "Hey, we need to have the all files permission access so that we can write files, any files, whatever we want to any location on your device at all times." That is why they got rid of this permission for simple file managers for Android. That's why scoped storage exists because scoped storage kind of mocks how PCs handle storage stuff. But, I'm going to press okay anyways, I guess, because I already know that there's no issues. Oh, look, no storage permission, another button I have to press. And then I have to give all storage file access, which is not necessary whatsoever, even for mobile glues, if you know how to code. Click the back button, and now I have to install the whatever that is, and then I have to install this, and then wait.
We're still not even in the game yet.
And we were in the game pretty quickly with DroidBridge Launcher. I can prove it to you. I have a video that shows you that you can play the game in under 1 minute. And now we need a permission for notifications.
Okay. Now we have to click back again, and then we have this thing that's telling us what to do because they followed the same kind of uh thing that Zeath Launcher did, where it shows you what buttons to press and blah blah blah. And then we have this thing, which is announcement bar, which we're going to hide, and then we're going to put that, and then we're going to click the launch button. Unable to launch an instance. Okay. How do I install? Oh, it's actually going to bring me to this page now. That was new. I don't know if that's actually a new update that recently appeared, but okay, let's click on the instance, and let's uh Oh, yeah, click the download icon. Okay. And now we have to wait for this to install.
Still waiting. Still waiting. Now, if you want to see how long it takes this launcher to install instances compared to DroidBridge Launcher, then you can check out my other video where I cover why I don't like this launcher, because this launcher takes, I think it was over a minute or something, and mine only took like 30 seconds to 40 seconds, I think, or something. I can't remember the actual time frame, but I put it in the actual video, and it was a lot less time using the same internet, using the same everything as far as I'm concerned, as I'm downloading the game well, before I even log in, which is also piracy. And we're uh we're still waiting for this to actually download. I don't know how long this has been since it started. I will put a time stamp on the video just to show you that wow, this is taking flipping forever. Oh, there we go.
Finally it was done. Maybe it's because I didn't log into my Microsoft account first, which is what you should always do. And then, how do you do that? Well, I guess there is a button here that says click to add and then it doesn't like force you to say, "Hey, you need to do this." Cuz like if I click launch, it's trying to basically promote piracy once again, which I should have this basically shut down. And then if I click log in, it's going to ask me to enter some code, which is kind of dumb. And then I have to basically log in with my Microsoft account, which here we go, my Microsoft account that owns the game.
And then once it's done, you have to sit here and read this to know that you are logged in. Oh, there it goes. It finally Okay, is it working? Oh, it's started booting up. Great. Now, another thing, when I did this the last time, it didn't work. So, let's see if this works this time. And the controls for the joystick are only working on the right side.
Doesn't even work in the game. Yeah.
Well, can't even do that. I'm going to touch the screen and get out of there.
So, that is basically the flow of FCL launcher. And again, if you want to basically come here and bash my opinions about why I think this is garbage, then move on. Don't even write anything, because I'm just going to expose your slop. And look at it, crashed. Oh boy. I guess somebody else told me that sometimes the actual launcher crashes like 35 minutes into the game play and then they lose some of their data. Never had this happen with Joybus launcher.
Not saying [snorts] it doesn't crash, but I'm going to tell you this, it's never crashed on 26.2 as of yet, and I've played for almost 2 and 1/2 hours plus on that version. Also, what's the point of this? Why do you need this in the front? You don't need that. Like it's cool to have that there, but like honestly, Joybus Launcher is a clean UI layout. Also has a settings icon with actual categorized properly categorized sections that you can understand how to actually do things like changing your render really quickly here to mobile glues, which is what I highly recommend you to use. Where is mobile glues? Oh, it's right here. Don't just ignore my what it's called portal glues because I was messing with something. I forked mobile glues, but anyways, yeah, that's about it, guys. I'm not going to cover full craft launcher anymore on this channel at all. Anybody wants to ask me about it, I'm going to direct them to this video or the other video and explain to them that it's just basically slop unless the developer actually learns how to code this. Like what is all of this for? You have a settings icon, a settings icon right here, too.
Like that's a settings icon from Android's perspective. And then you have like this game option which like what is this for? Update controller blah blah blah. Like okay, that's for your controls and download cloud cloud option. Like what? It makes no sense.
They just need to fix the UI and maybe I'll give them some credibility.
However, I'm not a senior Android developer whatsoever, but I have been doing this for about 10 plus years and I've improved my UI over the last 10 plus years and even Joybus Launcher I'm not fully happy with in some regard. But that's just because I am pretty anal about things like that. Yes, this is a long video and it's very much valid of what I said, especially even in my last video that I tried to just cover why to stop using this launcher in the time frame that I did. This is Bob's Donuts and this is the only way out for you if you use full craft launcher. Bye-bye.
Oh, and if you actually watched the end of this video for my introduction where I said I don't care, I just don't care about what you say because honestly, your comment was literally slop. And I'm doing this video because I want to educate people on how Android actually works and maybe give some pointers to the developers of Warcraft launcher to make their launcher UI a lot better.
