The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), directed by Jacques Demy and starring Catherine Deneuve, is a musical film where every character sings and talks throughout, featuring vibrant color usage and visually dazzling set design that influenced later films like La La Land; however, the constant singing of conversations can feel repetitive and sometimes boring, though the film's visual appeal and emotional ending make it a worthwhile watch, earning a 6/10 rating.

MovieFiendz Review: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)Added:
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is a musical film. Every aspect of the movie is music is musical, so everyone sing talks.
There's no set pieces, but there's a vibrant usage of color and that's kind of like why the reason why the movie so well regarded. It's directed by Jacques Demy and stars Catherine Deneuve as Genevieve. Genevieve. She is a beautiful young woman who's in love with Guy. He's a mechanic. However, Guy has to go to war, so she's got to wait for him and her mother pressures her to marry someone else and it's like a the movie that probably influenced La La Land for starters. I mean, it's the usage of color and the just the set design is definitely uh really visually dazzling, but uh sometimes the sing talking can get a little aggravating because there are some conversations that are kind of boring and you just because you sing them doesn't make them interesting and I do like the ending and it is visually dazzling, but it doesn't do anything else. So, you know, the rest of the movie's fine. There's some everyone sing talks in the movie, so it's like trying sometimes can feel a little bit much, you know, like I guess it doesn't really have any dance sequences. So, that doesn't really apply, so it's more of a musical of just kind of like the the the Hugh Jackman Les Misérables where everything just sort of is there's no dialogue. It's just everything's just talking, singing every time and can get a little old, you know, the movie's short though. So, it is dazzling a visually it's a visual treat, but um you know, I thought it was just all right. So, I give The Umbrellas of Cherbourg a six out of 10.
