This channel elevates the "lowbrow" hunt for vintage pulp into a sophisticated act of cultural preservation. It proves that true bibliophilia lies in the tactile history of the object, not just the prestige of the literary canon.

Books and Hauls and Hauls of BooksAdded:
I don't know what that was. All right, we're going to do uh a book haul because I have quite a few. Yes, I am in the same spot. I'm wearing the same outfit as my last video. I filmed them back to back.
All right, I got a lot of books again as usual. Um I'm not going to apologize for it and I'm sure you're not surprised, but I need to do a haul before they keep piling up. Um, this one could already be pretty long, so let's just crack into it. Um, first I was sent books by uh a very kind fellow on Instagram who wants to start his own book channel. And so he's been sending books to some uh of the booktubers that he likes and enjoys.
And um like I think he sent some to Tim recently and uh to Nick and um yeah uh really nice guy. Ed Brock on Instagram.
I believe his name is mythologio mytholog mythologus myth mythologius used or something maybe I'll put a thing up if I remember if not I'm very sorry thank you for the books um but yeah he sent me some he just hit me up and was sent me some cool stuff so let's start there um Fletcher Neebles trespass which looks amazing um yeah it's like uh thriller kind of thing, I think.
Um, very cool. He also sent me a series that I was actually not aware of. I believe there are three of them. He sent me the first two. This is Eagle Heart, Silver Wings and Leather Jackets.
Um, so that looks amazing.
And number two, like a science fiction men's adventure, uh, Eagle Heart, Broadsides, and Brass.
Love it.
And then he he must know me. He must know me well because he sent um, Swept Away. Oh, come on.
Look at this. I had never heard of these before. I looked them up. There are a couple more and I will be tracking them down. Um, but yeah, it's someone climbing a mountain and it's young adult thriller.
Um, I just like I was like, "Oh my god, this book was made for me." Um, so yeah, got to find the rest in this series. And then he sent me a bevy of [snorts] Ashes books. William W. JSON wrote the Ashes series, which is a postnuke, you know, um, action adventure series, which, as I mentioned, is quickly becoming, uh, one of my favorite little subg genres.
There are a ton of these books, and I have not I've never picked one up. Um, just for the reason that there's so many, they're a little uh, it's a little daunting.
Um, it also looks a little little jingoist, which is, you know, that's all right. Um, but yeah, these look cool. I uh I'm excited to have these. So, thank you for Ed for sending them my way. Kind of jumpst starting my ashes collection here.
I don't know why it keeps blurring out on me.
shirt in the skies with guns and an eagle in the background.
America.
All right.
[snorts] All right. So, that's that. Uh I will do my other gift package that I received.
This one was from uh Jonathan over at Stringer Than Fiction. Um yeah, really nice guy. Kind of hit me up and was like, "Hey, I got some books I want to send your way if you're interested." And I have trouble saying no to free books.
Um, so yeah, he sent me some cool stuff.
Um, first one he sent was Charlie's Angels number three, Angels on a String.
I've actually never watched the old Charlie's Angels show. Maybe I should do that. I grew up with the movies.
Um, and he sent me a couple I do have.
Um, so these will go, you know, probably in the trade pile. Uh, the Viking Cipher number five. I absolutely love this cover. If you I have this whole series.
Um but if you've never seen it before, I'm g show it off because it just looks stunning. This is actually very high on my to be read list is this series. Um and then Traveler number six. I actually did already have Traveler number six, but this looks like a cool post-apocalyptic series as well. And he sent me Traveler number five, which I did not have, so that was sweet. Um, and then these two are amazing. Great, great sins. Um, Killinger number two, another action adventure series. Um, I did not have any of these.
And so, yeah, they've got some oceany.
God, quit blurring.
Yeah, that looks great.
And then uh of course Afroor number six. I really want to get all the Afroor books, but it's very rare that I actually find them. Um so I was excited that he sent me this one because I did not have that. So thank you Jonathan. I appreciate it. Um the rest of the books here, and there are many, um it's my own fault. I bought them and I separated them all into places where I bought them. I don't know if anyone actually cares, but um yeah, this first stack was like half price books, I believe. So, um found this, which looks amazing. Uh Freeway.
I just love this um cover.
I didn't know anything about it. I just picked it up because it looks great.
Let's get that out of the way. And then I grabbed time, the semi-final Frontier.
I don't know. It was cheap and it amused me. And then I got home later to find that Lionel Fen is a pen name for Charles L. Grant. This was kind of his um humorous science fiction series.
Um grabbed this Warchild because I mean look at it.
It's amazing.
I mean, if this old man robot isn't good enough, like those bluish those turquoise aliens in the background.
So, yeah, that was a cool find.
Um, I got a couple more of the Aeros series, which is, I believe, about a brothel in space. Uh, the Tales of the Velvet Comet series, excuse me. Aeros ascending and Aeros at Zenith.
I think I have all four now. Maybe I'm missing one. I can't quite remember.
Picked this one up. It was very cheap.
It was in the discount section. And I actually picked up number one in the discount section at a different store years ago. So now I have one and two in this series. I think there are three.
Picked up a Christopher Pike I did not have. I will always pick up Christopher Pike when I see him.
Um really cool stepback art there.
And then, yeah, this one was from a cool shop. Um, if I remember, maybe I'll throw up a picture. Um, yeah, it opened up recently in my uh city of Raleigh, North Carolina. It is downtown. It's called The News Agents.
And um Eric over at the Paperback Warrior um kind of knows the guy that opened it and was like, "Hey, you need to go in there." Um it's really cool. It's the store that is like very nice and new looking and it's in downtown and they have records and comic books and all this different stuff. But they also have like all all uh like no new books. It's all vintage genre fiction because the guy who started this place is like a collector like us. Like he apparently even watches uh a lot of these um like our channels.
And so I went in there and uh picked up some books and it's very cool shop. He's not wrong. Um so yeah, here's what I got there. Got the Omega Assignment, David Lewis.
Um, I think it was the scuba diving bloody scuba diver that sold me on this one.
Yep, there we go.
This man is dangerous.
All right. And then I got um Frank Coffey's Night Prayers. I just really like that cover. It's amazing.
Um, he had a pretty good horror selection.
Um, I got Death Day, Robert Neville.
That's a chunky one, but I've seen this cover before and I've always liked it.
Happy to pick that up. Had a free table.
Um, let's see. I picked up I think two things off the free table. I got uh Iron Lords, just a sword and sorcery looking thing.
And Melanie Tms the Tides. I think it was free cuz it's cover's ripped, but it's all right.
Um, and then I bought Needle just like the cover and FGS. I have seen this cover many times, but I've never found it. So, I was stoked to find this one for a good price.
Um, and then whatever this is, I just loved the looks of it.
Just a cool looking vintage mystery from Playboy Press.
All right, let's see the next stores.
Um, okay.
This is from a store local to me. Um, I've been to a couple times. I'm trying to be better about like Oh, Lord. I'm just This is going to be a blurry video.
trying to be better about um telling you where I got things. I know some people are into that and I never remember, but I actually did a good job of sorting them this time. So, this is from a store called Poppers uh in Clayton, North Carolina. They have a big section outside of just racks where they're out in the the elements and they must have been for a long time because they're usually pretty tattered and dusty. and last time, but they're 50 cents. And last time I was there, it was like the store had just taken all of their vintage spy action adventure books and put them out there. So, I found a ton of books for 50 cents. Um, so I grabbed a bunch more from the outside. Um, and then also a decent amount from the inside. Um, so let's get cracking. Uh, got whatever this is, Deacons War.
Um, Richard Hoy, the Dragon Portfolio, sort of '9s, uh, Asia.
Um, or set uh, thriller set in Asia, action, adventures, crime, something.
Uh, I got The Circle by Steve Shagan.
Um, Steve Shagan does like erotic thrillers. I have a different one from him. Yeah, exotic Asia and Assassin.
>> Very cool.
Um, A Night for Treason by John Jakes.
Um, John Jake usually writes science fiction, so I was pretty surprised to see um like a spy uh book, espionage book.
Uh, Jake Strait number three. This is a I believe a trilogy. And now I have I think one and three. I'm not entirely sure.
Um, yeah, this one's not in good shape.
This was clearly outside. I think these pages are coming out. Um, but yeah, Action Adventure Code Zero. Um, I think [clears throat] this is about Yeah, the DE. It's like a DEA hunting for drug runners or something.
Um, this was a cool find. I don't know much about it, but I was like, that's coming home with me. A novel of Tutin Common, Valley of the Kings. I just loved um I love Egypt's stuff.
Uh, so that was very cool.
Um, I picked up this JJ Merrick Gideon book um, Eric Paperback Warrior sent me a couple of Gideon's books um, recently and he said they're pretty good. They're just like an example of [snorts] uh, classic British mysteries. Um, and so I snagged one because it was 50 cents.
Also got another one of the Ravenhouse mystery books. I talked about my um excitement of these recently. I just really like this like livery, this design, and um I like [snorts] that they're numbered because I'm a lunatic.
Um very faded spine. You can see the books outside there are uh they've been out there a while.
[clears throat] Also got this one, Diamond Rock by Mark Shore. But see, this is the kind of stuff where like even at 50 cents or even um tattered copies at 50 cents, like I'm there's no way I'm leaving them there. These are gold. Um Juggernaut, Desmond Bagley. I've heard great things about Desmond Bagley. Um similar to Yeah, like Alistister Mlan, the uh sort of action adventure thrillers. Um and I'd never picked one up, so I picked up uh two of them. I think one of them must be somewhere on the stack. But um [snorts] I grabbed Alistister Mlan's Hostage Tower written by John Dennis. So or John Den, I don't know. I wasn't sure what the deal was with these. Um and now it's been a while since I remembered.
Yeah. So it says in here. Um, so it had something to do with these were supposed to be a series of films and he prepared story outlines.
Alistister Mlan did and then got busy or something and they said they wanted novels based on the films and he was like I didn't have time to do it so he hired someone else to do it. So, these are ideas like outlines by Alistister Mlan written by someone else. Um, there's that one and then there's uh Air Force One is Down. Alistister McLean's Air Force One is down written by John Dennis. Again, 50 cents a piece.
Not going to say no. Uh, picked up an an Andrew Coburn book, Sweetheart.
Someone in my comments uh told me that Andrew Coburn writes fantastic uh police procedurals and I picked up a different one of his recently and then uh found this one so snagged that as well. Um found two of these Peter Styles mysteries.
Um Black Glass City they were making it's about like murder on the set of a movie. So you know I'm there for that.
Uh, and then one of the later ones in the series, um, the Power Killers.
Um, I think the rest of these, well, maybe not the rest. Most of the rest were inside, I think. So, more like I think they charge uh, two bucks.
Uh, I found three books in a series I'd never heard about before, which is Heler, a great hero from the Great Outdoors.
We've got the turnout man.
Uh the oil rig and the coyote crossing.
So that's cool.
Um yeah, these were outside. Um found two more of these uh George G. Gilman Adam Steel books. This is the guy that wrote the Edge series. Uh, this is his other series. So, for 50 cents, I will give them a try.
Um, and then I did find a whole bunch of Traveler books. So, I got Traveler number one, Traveler number two, Traveler number three. I love this cover. Look at that.
Oh my god, I want to read this series really bad.
Um, Traveler number seven.
Traveler number eight.
Look at that. Like, what is even going on? [snorts] Um, number nine.
and number 13.
So, I'm actually only missing a couple of these now. So, that is exciting.
Um, [clears throat] [snorts] I got the best ye breed by Mac.
Reynolds.
Um, and this is the third in a series.
[snorts] The first two are um in a dosey do uh ace ace double uh which Jake from PM Mortem has set aside for me. He had uh he had one he didn't need or want I guess and uh is going to give me that one. So I'll have that trilogy.
This was another one I think on the 50 cents rack. Um down tide. I just like uh sea stuff so I grabbed it. I think it's a fantasy book.
Uh, got another hawk book. I for some reason very rarely come across hawk books. Um, and this one just has the best cover with a headless uh headless man there. Oh my god, this is not going to focus, is it? There we go.
Jeez Louise.
Yeah, very cool.
Uh, I found two books in the Hook series, and these look like fun pulpy uh, science fiction action adventure.
[snorts] I found this uh, She'll Never Get Off the Ground. This might just be a drama.
I'm not sure. But uh the back says um her name was Dudney Develin, daughter of a great pilot brought up in a Bush airline in Alaska, learning to fly by the seat of her nicely filled pants.
Um let's see. Roger J. Serling, author of The President's Plane is Missing, has written a great new novel about the big planes and the men who fly them. Only this time, one of the men is a lovely girl. Is it literally about the whole book is about a woman being a pilot because woman pilot? I don't know. It just I was like I have to I have to read this.
Um I also picked up this one. Azor.
Um yeah, just looked cool. I'd never seen this before.
Uh oh, look at that. Another Adam Steel.
I guess I picked up uh more than I thought.
Um, one of these Matthew Swain books, The 21st Century Private Eye, and as we learned from Nick at the Book Graveyard, that is Mr. Chad Deal himself.
Um, I think this is the first one of these I've actually come across.
Um, this one was off the 50 cent rack as a decoy.
Um, I don't remember why I picked this up. Just cuz I was like, "Yep, good enough for me."
Um, but yeah, it does look fun.
Yeah, it's like a serial killer uh serial killer police procedural, so I'm down for that.
Um, picked up a couple more Mac Reynolds just because they were all sitting next to each other. I think this one is a part of a series I learned later. Um, but this is I think the reason I grabbed it. I was like, "Well, I'm not going home without Police 2008D is that looks great."
Um, I found more of these rack books.
Eric Paperback Warrior sent me the first one recently. Um, and I was very excited to find uh more of them. rack number two because Lawrence James is the pen name for um I can't remember his name now but the guy who wrote the Deathlands books and the [snorts] witch the witches books and um a bunch of other sort of pulpy uh stuff but these look great.
Picked up this disaster book Ice.
Um, it's like a weird cover here for a paperback. I don't know. I like it.
Um, oh, and then this I couldn't believe I found this. It was only $2. Uh, dino stud.
I mean, for two bucks. Like, I'm not gonna not I'm not gonna not get that.
So, that's all it from uh from that store. Um, two more big big uh stores were hit. So, this one was from a store called Old Books on Front uh in Wilmington, North Carolina. I used to live there. I went to college there and uh went there again for a wedding and um yeah, just had to go hit that old shop I used to my old my old haunt and it did not disappoint. I found a lot of really cool stuff. [snorts] And again, these books are also very cheap.
Everything was, I think, a dollar, somewhere between a dollar and $2, like a dollar50 this one said. But, um, [clears throat] the Hero and the Terror, um, Operation Perfidia, that is some some artwork right there.
Hey.
Hey man. All right. Sorry.
Um, found this one. Uh, Resonance of Blood. So, Robert E. Vardman, who wrote a lot of fantasy books, also wrote a trilogy, um, with Peter Thorne, Psychic Investigator. So, I now have two of the books in the Peter Thorne Psychic Investigator trilogy.
Um, I found this one, Freedom Rangers Number Four. I have never heard of this series before, but there's a a whole bunch of them. And I was like debating grabbing it because I'm not huge on the um just like war books. I like action adventure, but war in itself is like eh.
But it says force fourth in the explosive new time travel series.
So, I don't know what it is, but I had to have it immediately after I saw that.
This I don't know. It it only cost me a dollar, but I would have paid good money for this. [laughter] [gasps] First off, amazing. Um, but there's a step back as you can see, and I'm a sucker for that. And the fact that it's cut diagonally here. And then you open it up. Boom.
You think I'm going home without that?
No.
No.
No.
Um, found this old leisure book, The Flame and the Fury. I don't know what to make of this, but I bought it.
It's like he burned with the flame of freedom and she wanted him with the fury of desire. What is this?
I don't know, but it's mine.
And then again, Cholo, I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know what to say about that.
I don't know.
Um, Assault on Loveless, Alan Kyoo. I also really like that. Note this man.
And then you look down here and they just took it and put it up there. They just made it bigger.
Is very tattered copy, but um, cool. I got a few more Alan Kyu books.
Um, [clears throat] see an exotic port, a primitive jungle, a Nazi victim's monstrous revenge.
Mine um, white for danger. I wasn't sure about this one until I read the little tagline. Could a lost valley with living people exist in Antarctica today? And I said, I will take that home. Yes, I will.
And then I found a firefighter book.
Um, yeah. I don't know. I was like, "Okay, cool. Firefighter book.
Um, I'll take it."
And then I found this one, the Hardcore, which is a hilarious name.
Um, just Yeah. Amazing. The Hardcore.
I know it's like a war thing, but it's just too funny. Um, we're not done with this store. I bought a lot. Got the foretelling.
I'm not sure if this is horror or what.
Um, but looked really cool.
This is another one I was like, another pilot book. This one, fasten your seat belts, no smoking, keep your fingers crossed, your pilot has a secret that could kill you. Um, and a terrifying mixture, alcohol and flying. So, it's just about an alcoholic pilot.
That's it. That's amazing. So, now I'm going to have to do like a pilot double feature. Tell you which pilot book is the best pilot book. [laughter] I might do it. All right. More stuff set in the water. We got a scuba man who's dead. Sold.
Um, picked up two more of the Deadly Force books. I think I have the first one of these and there are a bunch of them, but um I don't know. These look a little ridiculous.
Um, yeah.
Charlotte Paul's The Image. Love this cover.
Not sure if it's like a thriller, a murder mystery kind of thing, but uh Oh, the eye bank.
Huh. It's definitely more of a horror thing. I think this cover was amazing.
I'd never seen this. Limbo. He is every woman's worst nightmare and he's out there on the loose. Look at that. How have I never seen that cover? It's wild.
Um, [clears throat and cough] this one had the word gold.
Uh, yeah, had the word gold. It's a treasure hunting thing and I'm I'm I'm there for it.
H picked up another Raven House mystery.
Uh, this one with a clown on it.
I don't see the number on this one.
But um yeah, cool.
Um, Shadow Kills with I guess that's like maybe a handle to a like a freezer door, commercial freezer, but it's also very, you know, it's got a pointy part on it.
I don't know. [laughter] But it looks cool. Sort of a serial killer thriller.
I was so blown away by this cover. So, first you've got the um retro camera, which I love. And then step back. So, you know, I'm sucker for both of those.
And very cool stepback art.
I see like a film reel and a dead person. And yeah, very awesome.
[snorts] Uh more water related.
Uh, mis murder mysteries. A luxury cruise along the beautiful Maine coast.
Wonderful place for murder.
And then another one. Uh, gently down the stream. Two women alone on the river unaware of a stranger's eyes.
Yeah, I found some good stuff lately, guys and gals. Uh, the Polandberg inheritance.
I don't know.
That's it for that store and we got the last haul, but do not go away because this one was a doozy. I went down to um Florida for work I think last week and uh near the Jackson in Jacksonville and um Eric from the Paperback Warrior lives somewhat near there in uh and he's talked many times about a store called Chamblins's Bookmine.
Uh they have two locations. I feel like I'm blurry.
And uh I stopped in at one of them. And let me tell you guys, if you're ever in Jacksonville, this place is like a hundred aisles where they got the books stacked like, you know, like this way. I don't know why I'm doing that. Like this way. And it's just like, [snorts] you know, like [clears throat] more paperback, mass market paperbacks than you could look through in a weekend. Like seriously, you could take a weekend trip to this place. Um, it's incredible. The only problem is they're each $4 a piece and I was like, "Oh god." [laughter] Like literally any series that I've been collecting, I could have gone there and finished out my series. Like literally all of them.
They have every book you would ever want, but they're [clears throat] all $4 a piece. So, I tried to be very choosy like about what I bought. Um, and I I was like, I really really have to want this or think that it's like kind of hard to find or something I've never seen before for me to get it. So, I did buy some stuff. Um, most of it's action adventure. Um, sorry if you're not into that. Um, there we go. We got the Hitman. This cover just it was I don't know. It was hilarious. I just couldn't deal with it.
And so I picked that up. And then I picked up the Hitman number three because this cover is even better.
Is this like not There we go.
Look at that man. And these people.
It's just too good.
Um I got the outer edges. This is off Manor Books.
Um, looks like a serial killer uh story, but it's I'd never seen this before.
I picked up Simon number six because I man I really for just want to complete this series and I never find these. I think now I only need one of them maybe or two. I can't remember. Uh, picked up some trucker horror. Death Run.
Amazing.
>> [clears throat] >> I got whatever this [snorts] is.
Uh, Simba Gold with a what might be the most, I don't know, troublesome, problematic cover I've seen. But, uh, just really something.
So, I remember ages ago I made a joke because I had two books from Thomas H.
blog um about commercial airline disasters and I was like maybe this was this guy's thing. He just wrote commercial airline disaster books. Well, I found a third and so I think I'm it's I think that's correct. I think he just wrote commercial airline disaster books.
And look at this. You've got this plane going down and the Great Wall of China.
I'm so sold on this guy's so sold.
I picked up Phoenix number three again because this is one of those series I just really want to complete and um I rarely find them.
I picked up this because it is a Curtis book. Um I think it's just a murder mystery. But look at this. That's a Barbie doll. 100% that's a Barbie doll.
And so that's just one of the greatest covers I've ever seen.
Um, yeah, I've picked up this one. This is a new new English library, which is a UK uh publisher, uh, which you very rarely find here. Um, this is Kizel Carr, and it seems to be a story about an Afghany man, um, during a some sort of Afghanistan war.
I don't know. Uh, picked up this one, Wolf Hunt, because it looks incredible.
That art is hilarious.
Um, also you've got uh I think that's a movie. Is it? Maybe not. Yeah. Reel of uh Yeah. So something about a lethal reel of tape and any if I just see like a reel of of tape on a book like movie film strip or something, I'm probably going to buy it. Um, another series called The Hitman, which I had never heard of. And um you got this like hockey mask dude.
And uh also it was off of Canyon Books, which I had never heard of. So I'm always down for books from weird publishers.
Um should I save these for last? I'm going to save these for last.
This looks amazing. Black Coral, a novel of sudden violence and erotic rapture in deadly paradise.
Oh, too perfect.
Um, tell no tales a fe I I bought it because it says a female James Bond. And I was like, okay, say less.
She is hot. Very hot. On the tra on the tale of handsome traitor and Diana.
Oh man. And then yeah, we'll stop at absolutely nothing. Sex, murder, sex, mayhem, sex.
Um, this was uh yeah, let's see. Flashoint Savage New Chiller.
This was in the horror section, but I really don't think that it's horror. Um, but it does look really cool.
And then I found this series, which I had never heard of before. Um, you've got Mr. Dynamite, which seems to have been a longunning German uh action adventure series. And I think only the first four were translated and published in America. And so I found I think all of the American versions. I could be wrong, though. But these covers um I don't know. I was like, "This is incredible. I need all of these.
>> [clears throat] >> Yeah. So, I was very excited about that.
And then the last ones I'll show off, um, if you're not aware, Carousel Books is a very rare publisher. Um, looks like that if you're looking for it in a bookstore, and I found four of them. And $4 a piece for a carousel book is uh quite the steal of a deal. So I found this fantasy book, Escape Carus.
Come on.
And they're very short.
I found um this one which has an incredible cover. It says the continuing adventures, but you got this guy, Kill FM.
Such a good cover. [laughter] And then I found these two books, Intersect File Number One and Intersect File Number Two, Death Cruise.
So, these are pretty rare, pretty obscure books. Um, and I was very excited to find them.
And that's it. That's all I have bought recently. Um, I'm sure there will be more. Uh, I do know someone has already hit me up on Instagram and told me they're going to send me some books. So, it's very nice of them. And so, there will be more book hauls in the future, but I just wanted to do this because there's a lot I needed to I needed to show them off before more get added to the pile. But, um, yeah. Thanks for watching, guys. And uh let me know if you've read any of these or if I should bump any up on my TBR. Anyways, have a good one.
